To start off, it's a Kawasaki KV107-11 helicopter and there are no hookers on the ground, they use a hydraulic grapple to pick the logs which have been jigged (almost cut through) or bunched on the ground ready to pick up.
They are an awsome piece of kit, the Ericson sky crane is also used for this along with the Chinook.
Bit different to the helilogging on tv with the huey's or the R44 Robinson.
with ref to sweetiepie do you live in a tent if not id seriously consider rethinking your comment has where do u think the roof on ur house comes from
I fly long lines for a seismic company with a 100 foot line can anyone with real experience tell me why they use such long lines with such big machines, clearly the line is much longer than the height of the trees?
the reason the line is so long is so the pilot looking out the side can see the load underneath the heli. if the line was shorter the chopper would abstruct the view.
It could also be because of rotorwash. I'd imagine those BV-107 and BV-234s have an immense amount of of rotorowash so being the the hooker on the ground would probably be difficult with just a 100 ft line.
The company that owns the choppers is from Oregon..The actual company doing the looging is Helifor Canada located out of vancouver...I used to work with them all over the BC coast.
tell ya what pal, i used to haul logs from helicopters , they run an apsurd amount of timber, It was from the helicopter in this video, after the flying was done , it took 10 trucks 3 weeks to get the logs turned in. They don't disturb the mountains , the workers walk in without building roads for logging equipment , its amazing what they do , one thing I was glad i got to witness

The definition of inefficiency. let's see how long this practice lasts at $110+/ barrel of oil.
