If someone would be kind enough to answer this question for me. I'm near sighted and I was told that F.A.A doesn't except lasik but does except cataract lens replacement. Does anyone have info on this? It would be greatly appreciated.

This video is wonderful. Thank you for sharing it. I can see the Sheraton La Reina on the background as the plane is preparing for take off. Brings back a lot of goods memories. Really good. Muchas gracias.
United is the only airline in the world that allows passengers to monitor cockpit/ATC transmissions via Channel 9 on inflight entertainment units. I hope they keep this feature after the merge with Continental.
FL92002 amazing video with many different airlines.the ATC conversation with the pilot made it even better.I could see Delta,Continental,American and obviously United.Keep up the gud work.
@DennisBillington ATC (air traffic control) was clearing the planes in front of this one to take off then telling the next one to "position and hold" on the runway. once the planes are separated enough, atc clears the next plane to take off. when atc clears a plane for take off it will generally sound like "united 84. winds zero six zero at 6, runway 25 right, cleared for takeoff." stating the plane's callsign, winds heading and speed, and the runway to take off.
@DennisBillington air traffic control was giving clearances to take off. "united 84, winds zero six zero at six, runway 25 right, cleared for take off." this tells the pilots the wind speed and direction, the correct runway, and that they are cleared to take off. once the plane leaves the ground, the tower is no longer responsible for them and hands them off to a different center. "united 84 contact socal departure."
I love United Channel 9! I've flown United the past several flights I've been on. Wonderful airline! Thanks for posting! Cool to hear ATC and watch takeoff. :)
@mattwright16 can atc give higher wind clearance? like if they didnt want to switch runways around and wind was 20KIAS would they still do tailwind? or just switch departure sides?
@dylanhelmer no, airlines won't take 20 kt tailwind. they would just switch departure sides. i know in atlanta since they have 5 parallels, the ones that they have on approach on the east side and land, while they have others approaching on the west side. they just time it so that as soon as they get the last ones down, they immediately start using the opposite runway. hope that helps
@dylanhelmer but it's very rare even if they take off with a 5 kt tailwind cause the airport will always switch it for a headwind. gives the aircraft better performance. i know the jets CAN take off in a tailwind, but the pilots won't do it. at least i don't when i fly
GREAT VIDEO!!! i really liked listing to the tower, how did u do that? with all the airline takeoff videos ive seen i think urs was the best one!!!!! great job man!
Ive never flown before and planes are by far my biggest fear, my mom just booked a surprise vacation and now in a week i am going to ride one, can you explain the expeirience for me?
Excellent video and many thanks for the detailed description. I am a big fan of LiveAtc and have flown United from Newark to Chicago and back several times and loved their Channel 9 feature!
I think it was a 757 because the traffic controller gave a wake turbulence warning to United 84. 757s are known to produce strong wake turbulence during climbout.
No Its Channel 9. A feature on UAL's in flight entertainment that allows passengers to hear the active comm frequency from the cockpit. If you're on a UAL flight and it's turned off 99 times out of 100 if you ask the FA's the pilots will turn it on.
i think this is a good idea, i'm from germany, and if you ask me,if they would turn it on on lufthansa flights, noone would understand any single word, even if it isn't hard, ive got a radio license for flying
Yes...... I love flying United...... but when i left from LAX to O' Hare...... I was flying UNITED 92...... and the plane that went down durring 9/11 was United 93
This is a really cool video! Well done! Also, every time I've been on an airplane I love to record the landing's and takeoff's, and nobody even cares.
question? I thought it was not permitted to have scanners or electronic devices on any aircraft? I been wanting to take a scanner on board for some time but didn't know how.
Nobody gave me a second look when I was recording with my camera. However, that is not a scanner you are listening to. I don't know if other airlines do this, but United has this feature in the radio channels, where when you listen to the radio in the arm rest, one of the channels is the control tower.
ive used my scanner, many, many , many times on flights recording for video. Havent had a problem yet, only have been told its "illegal" to take video. Which we all know is a bunch of b.s.
I used to always listen to them ever since i was a kid, but that was years ago, and can't seem to find any airlines who still have that option of listening... but i'm glad to hear that United still does.
Cool video and how did you record the convo?

you can takeoff with a tailwind. i think most airlines restrict it to a max of 15 kts tailwind. not uncommon
