  • Man the Knicks defense was tough back in those days.

  • This has got to be '94. MJ isn't in the montage.

  • Are we sure this isn't from 1994? Why do they have Chris Webber's behind-the-back dunk on Barkley if this NBA Showtime is from the 1992-93 season? Webber came into the league the year after.

  • FUCKING BRING ME BACK TO THE 90's!!!

  • The NBA was a game of teams back then, not players! You wore your teams colors. Now it's all individual superstars and boring

  • Why can't the NBA be the way it used to be?

  • Listen to the those dunks......F**KING EXPLOSIONS!...You hear that? That's the sound of BASKETBALL.....Not DIVA ball like today.

  • If this is from '93, how is that Chris Webber clip even in there?? That play wasn't until the '94 playoffs.

  • @butterzp This was from the 1993-94 season. The uploader mislabeled the video.

  • Lol shaq sliding into the camera.

  • If my team made it to the nba on nbc, that was a big deal

  • 90's NBA = BOSS

    2000's-2010's NBA= MAJOR FAIL

  • Back when NBC was awesome. My things sure has change.

  • OMFG WTF SKINNY SHAQ?! 0:24

  • yep I agree. The past 10 years (2000-2010 have been horribe) Examples

    1.Bad music

    2.Natural disaster's

    3.terrorist attacks

    4.Bad economy

  • Barkley got it on 1:31

  • man the nba was SOOOOO much better in 1990-2002

  • The Phoenix gorilla at the end was the best part

  • This clip entitled "Chris Webber Famous Behind-the-Back Dunks over Charles Barkley *Vintage NBA", which can be found on youtube, indicates when the Webber dunk occurred. They state the 6th game of that season for Golden State, which occurred on November 16, 1993.

  • CLASSIC IM ONLY 22 AND I REMEMBER IT

  • NBC = National Basketball Channel

  • reggie miller michael jordan patrick ewing you gotta love it

  • Wait there is something wrong this video; there is some kind of montage, because it seems to be about the end of the regular 92-93 season, but the C-Webb dunk on Barkley is from the 93-94 season

  • @rafikz77 it is from 93-94. the other way you can tell is Jordan isn't in any of those clips

  • Just got chills watching that, man. This was the NBA at some of its greatest. I know I'm biased because I grew up during the NBA on NBC era, but the league is soft these days.

  • The greatest intro ever!!

  • it's unbelievable shaq was there and still plays now.

  • @strikername: I know! I am surprised he is still playing. he's been playing since 1992! that's 18 years and counting! I think he's trying to go for 20 years total to match Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (< 2nd greatest player of all time next to Michael Jordan if you ask me)

  • I was dissapointed that Shaq did not make the 2010 All-Star game, I was hoping he could surpass Kareem or tie him for the number of All-Star games played in

  • I noticed they put Derrick Coleman in the opening. Everyone thought he was going to be a beast at PF for years to come, that never happened.

  • this was the best era for the NBA now I just dont watch who cares lol

  • rofl

  • WOW. not bad. hahhaha

  • this is back when the nba was fuckin bad ass every team has thier all star line up it was a great time

  • @purelh Yeah you're definitely right. Those were the days where all of the superstar players didn't try to get on the same team just to win championships. That was when the players wanted the league to be balanced. NBA just isn't what it used to be.

  • @dogubomb yeh for sure man the nba at that time was balanced even the most horrible teams had thier big shots but it wasnt all about the ego's n fame n shit like today *cough * labron james

  • i miss the 90's

  • @foolmoi yep I agree. The past 10 years (2000-2010 have been horribe) Examples

    1.Bad music

    2.Natural disaster's

    3.terrorist attacks

    4.Bad economy

  • oh shit barkley got dunked on at 1:00 LOL

  • yeah i remember when that happened, chuck still can't live that down ;)

  • the glory days of bball for show

  • i miss this shit

  • i love how they have a Dunk theme and how there is a BOOM every time they show a dunk..its so awesome!!! its original too

  • this kicks the living hell out of fuckin espn

  • Yeah, I remember the old NBA on NBC specifically when the Hornets were still in Charlotte. Too bad the bobcats suck. Oh well, maybe they will get better eventually.

  • lol classic

  • ain't there another opening similar to this but with MJ shooting the 3s against Portland?

  • lance niggerdigz.... ya dig

  • its pretty cool how it sounds like a cannon goes off whenever anyone dunks. and what the heck kind of celebration was that by malone? the elbow thing? funny stuff

  • wow the NBA on NBC Showtime theme, doesnt get ne better. The NBA and NHL had way better intros and themes on way better channels then they do 2day, and the NBA was way more competitive and full of superstars back then in my opinion, thts y the NNA sucks 2day. NBA on NBC has to comeback and NHL on FOX but it unfortunetly wont happene.

  • shawn kemp!

  • very nice, did anyone notice that the clips with the music don't match the intro?? C Webb Was drafted in 93, and that smash on Barkley's face was in the 94 playoffs. The intro is prior to the 93 playoffs. Who cares tho? Great vid....

  • Nice Antione Carr and Jerome Kersey move.

  • That was a preseason or early season game in 1993-94. This intro is from the 1994 season, right about playoff time.

  • it has to be because, it shows Chris Webbers dunk on Barkley which didnt happen until they played each other in the 94 playoffs

  • reign man!!!!!!!!! i love shawn kemp and sometimes think I may be one of his 40 illegitimate children.

  • dunk on barkley the best

  • this was the best nba theme song

  • dude shaq looks so much thinner then than he does now. when he played for the lakers, he put on some weight.

  • That's part of the reason why Shaq battled injuries throughout his time with the Lakers. Things like his oblique and toes were injuries coming from being out of shape.

The only year Shaq was in shape was the '99-00 season which was the only season that he won the NBA MVP. Not to mention, starting the Lakers run of 3 straight NBA titles that year. I will say this though, Shaq in his time with the Lakers became the best and most dominant player in the NBA during those 3 Lakers title years.

  • Who could forget that shot of Shaq diving headfirst into the camera for that loose ball?

    Awesome intro.

  • Charlotte was my favorite team in the 90's too..

I had L.J's Converse React shoes in Middle school man those were the days now I can't watch a full NBA Game.. Other than what Golden State did in that run a couple years back the last 10 years have been a Blur..

I don't know what happened to the NBA

  • Absolutely agree...what the hell has happened? I know why I cared during the early 90s...what I want to know is why don't I care any more?! I could have reeled off the starting five of every team coast to coast...when did basketball no longer matter?

  • This intro is actually from April 25, 1993, the last day of the regular season...the featured game is Knicks-Bulls from the Garden (which is why they mention the rivalry on the Showtime intro)

  • If it was April of 1993, then MJ would have been shown in the intro, as he played in the 1992-93 season, and the Bulls won their 3rd championship in June of 1993.

  • Charles Barkley scored 56 points against webber in webbers first playoff series!

  • damn i miss my old Charlotte Hornets..LJ, ZO, Muggsey

  • Where does the Payton to Kemp dunk come from?

  • From theultimatevideouplo (1 month ago) "Where does the Payton to Kemp dunk come from?"

My reply, "from your momma's fat stanky ass."

    Just shut up and watch,fool.

  • This intro is from April 24, 1994.

  • The Webber around the back dunk on Barkley occurred on Nov. 16, 1993. This was Webber's first year. Jordan was out of the league at this time. NBC began it's first telecast of the 1993-94 season on Christmas Day 93, so they were able to incorporate this dunk in their intro for that season. Bob then goes to talk about how the Bulls are the champs, so it's definitely not from the calendar year 1995 approaching the 1995 playoffs, as the Rockets were the defending champs for the 1994-95 season.

  • I like that theme, NBC should really push to get the NBA back, so they can bring the theme back, or perhaps even a nice remix.

  • Jordan was in the league, Bob Costas said "The two-time defending Champion Bulls."

  • They didn't show a Jordan highlight!

  • He wasn't in the league!

  • damn I miss the Grandmama Charlotte Hornets :-/

  • Sign the petition. Bring back the NBA on NBC. Let's come together as one and make a statement and climb our way to the top and get the most signatures. Spread this around. This is not spam. This is not chain messaging. This is a chance for us to make a stand and bring back the NBA to NBC.

  • Boy, remember when Shawn Kemp could actually get off the deck? He was the first straight-from-HS player since Moses, and really kicked that whole phenomenon off in the 90s.

  • wit his kamikaze shoes

  • Nothing will ever top the Jordan Era NBA!!!!

  • aaahhhh memories of Glory days in the NBA!

  • The 90s weren't the glory days. The 80s were.

  • Starks for three!!!

  • You are such a fucking moron! The Suns didn't even play the warriors in the 94-95 playoffs. This is definitely from 93-94 you fucking retard! Next time you question me, make sure you're right!

  • whoa, calm down a bit all he did was get it wrong, it's not like he just ruined your life because he got it wrong.

  • thats a good one. wow, ive never seen someone get mad like that. honest mistake.

  • LMAO.

  • Showtime was great.

  • This is from 1993-94 because the Webber dunk on Barkley was in 1994.

  • nba has lost his spunk after leaving nba on nbc! miss those days

  • nah. 94-95. Chris webber was with the warriors in that video and that was done during their last trip to the playoffs against the Suns.

  • They win the title in '91; they are the champs. Come '92, they are the defending champs for the regular season. They win it again. So now for the '93 regular season they are the two-time defending champs. It's not rocket science.

It's ok guys, Bob makes mistakes sometimes. He's not perfect.

  • Not saying he is, but I myself thought that "two-time defending champs" meant that they had defended their championship twice and were trying to win another. I guess I was just wrong.

  • Those were the best days.

  • Actually, if it WERE from '92-93, then likely there would have been a Jordan highlight or two in there. I'm guessing it's '93-'94.

  • Yes but it shows Doc Rivers on the Knicks right at the start who only played in 92-93 i believe, so that's definitely the year it is unless I am wrong about Rivers

  • Well you're at least halfway wrong. Doc Rivers played in the '92-93 season as well as the '93-94 season for the Knicks. So it could very well be from the latter. You have to remember how much NBC has touted Jordan over the years. Had he been active, a clip of him would have been shown.

  • Actually I feel pretty stupid because Chris Webber didn't even play in the 92-93 season so it has to be from 1994, when that play on Barkley was made. And to think I'm supposed to be knowledgable about these things. I really thought Rivers and Blackman left for Harper and Hubert Davis but I guess my memory is going.

  • So then if that's the case this video should probably be renamed, I'd say this has to be from late March-Early April 1994 without looking at a schedule

  • Something interesting: Bob Costas, at the beginning of the clip, says "2 time defending champions". Apparently a mishap on his part because Webber's highlight dunk on Barkley is the smoking gun. And since he also says the playoffs are "4 days away", that would mean it's from early/mid April '94.

  • No, he's right--the Bulls defended their first championship (1991) twice (in 1992 and 1993). This was in 1994, where they were trying to defend it for a third time.

  • That's not what Bob was trying to say. "2 time defending champs" means that they've won the title twice. 1992=defending champs, 1993=two-time defending champs, 1994=three time defending champs. Sabe, no sabe?

  • Okay, so apparently that was a mistake on his part. But either way, you and I both know that this was definitely from late in the 1994 season.

  • yeah he was right in saying Two Time defending champs because they had defended the title twice, it is just a weird way of wording things when they had won 3 titles

  • Bob spoke incorrectly and it's from 1994. And both of you should have realized that a highlight reel not featuring Jordan was as big a clue as any other. Now we just need someone to contact "ecw1024" and tell him/her to correct the title of this video.

  • Two time defending champs means that theyve defended the title twice, not that they've won it twice.

  • Oh, I already knew knew that a Jordan reel was not featured here, so it had to be from the 1994 season. Probably just the way he said it may throw some people off. But it is from 1994.

  • I understand your logic above, but I've also heard countless times when a team only has one the championship once, the next year referred to as "the defending champions", although they haven't defended their title yet.

In the 1997 season, I heard announcers proclaim the Bulls as the defending champs, even though it was their first title win (as part of their second three-peat).

  • Yes I've heard so many teams that won the title once be called "defending champions", and even though you are in the act of defending your championship during that season, I still feel it's an incorrect use of the term even if it does sound good. To me you need to win twice to be a "defending champion", and that's my logic for why Costas said "Two Time". Really it makes sense either way, but my way is the way in which Costas was thinking, because as you've said this is April 1994, NOT 1993.

  • And again as you've said, just like ABC does now, just like CBS did before NBC, the first game of the season is ALWAYS the Christmas game, and that is the only televised day for basketball of the season within its year.

  • Hell yes, the Gorilla!

  • This is from 92-93 I'm pretty sure wow really nice I didnt remember this one

  • i'm getting this one from april 25th 1993 the knicks bat the bulls

  • this looks like this was from the 1993-94 season

  • NBA on NBC isn't coming back deal with it.

  • What if the contract ends before 2016-17?

  • Classic. Simply classic.

ABC and ESPN have failed MISERABLY to top greatness like this.

We want our NBA on NBC
