  • @kathryn8169 2009

  • Gallant was a teacher about 6 feet tall, 190 lbs who like to beat on kids. Far as I know, the prick got away with it. Catholic school system. Hate it with a passion. My brother, a doctor, lives there and two years ago, said he treated Gallant. In time...

  • Gonna find him when I go back and give him a taste of his own medicine.

  • Didn't know he died. Sorry to hear. He was a better man than those bully teachers that beat him and his classmates. I know. I was whipped by nuns in low school, and in grade 7, knocked unconscious while in my desk by Gerald Gallant, the fucker coward. Blood running down my face. Saw Gallant pick one boy up and literally throw him over a desk onto the hard floor. The thud was sickening to hear. I swore I would never be like those bastards and cunts. Never laid a hand on a child in my life.

  • when he dies?

    :(

  • I am sick...heartbroken. In reading all your books, you became my friend. It was exciting to watch you go from a boy w/ eyes like "pissholes in the snow" , to the brilliant, successful author you became. Goodbye Frankie!

  • I never liked to read books until I picked up Angela's Ashes a couple years ago and it helped me through a hard time. I hadn't finished it until recently when I decided to read it all over from start to finish and shortly after I started, I was in the book store buying his book 'Tis when I found out he passed away. I would have loved to have met him but I'm thankful I got to know him through his writing. Thank you Frank for making me love reading and you. RIP

  • R.I.P Teacherman

  • I LOVE HIS BOOK ONE OF MY FAVORITE.

  • It's a truly sad day in Limerick today. Condolences to the McCourt family on the passing of this kind hearted and gentle man, a man whom I had the privilege of listening to as he told wonderful stories in his inimitably relaxed manner to an entranced audience in Souths' Bar.

May your spirit Rest in Peace, Frank.

  • So true. It's such a pity for us to loose this shy and warm hearted soul. His books were full of modesty, philanthropy and a good sense of humor. He should always reminds us to look behind the surface and recognize the human factor. We have to be grateful for what we've got. Frank McCourt, Thank you so much for every word. We will miss you very much but also keep you alive in our memories and think of you smiling!

  • A truly great man. RIP Mr McCourt

  • RIP, Frank. You gave us so very much.

  • one of the greatest men of the passing age...

  • McCourt is my angel on the 7th step. And, yes, I have been known to pray to him. (smile)

  • he is hilarious.

  • love that man!!!!

  • in ireland mccourt would be referred to as a '' royal bollix.''

  • cool guy...i love his books and yes his Holy brother Malachy...

  • i lvoe frank mccourt!

    his books are amazing <3

  • wow, racist.

  • My sis met him. She said he was a riot and a real sweetheart!

  • Frank is brilliant and witty and intelligent. I adore him. All of his books have been amazing to me!

  • Frank McCourt is awesome

  • off topic but I'm really cold at my house :(

  • Turn the heat up! Ha! Ha!

  • Well, I dont think theres such thing as the "american dream". If you work hard no matter were you are. You will be ok.

  • don't think that's true at all. Maybe change that to 'anywhere in a first world country'.

  • All these years in America you would think he would've lost the brogue...

  • I'm so glad he hasn't lost his accent. It's gorgeous!

  • Yeah I know. My family's from there, they moved here and they still have their accent. And they're from CO. Cork! Ahhh, the Cork accent. Ha! Ha!

  • There's nothing wrong with being a poet.

  • Oh yes there is. 99% of poetry is awful. Plus, you missed the point of the story.

  • I missed the point of the story? How's that?

  • You said there's nothing wrong with being a poet, but McCourt hadn't said anything that was anything wrong with being a poet. Possibly you were referring to another comment. Sorry. But sorry, poetry, especially today, is vile. Except Bukowski.

    Later

  • I see your point. But yes, I was refering to a comment above me that youtube is no longer showing because of the whole thumbs down thing. I don't read or write poetry but I don't think there's anything wrong with it.

  • There is nothing wrong with reading or writing poetry, but the majority of poets make very little out of what they do, and that was the point McCourt was highlighting. Seamus Heaney would be an exception though.

  • I love Frank McCourt, he is a true American Dream, come here work hard, even from nothing, you can become something great.... IF YOU WORK FOR IT, there are no free handouts, people are not owed anything!

  • Way to impose your (naive) politics on his work.

  • When recalling his childhood, Frank McCourt must have spent many miserable days. I try to forget the past but digging it all up again must have been hell.

  • frank mccourt's so cool! i enjoy his books soooooooooo much!
