I bought the same scoop, added a paint roller extention handle on it.. Took it out and the same thing happened on a sandy beach. bent all out of wack... had to weld it up right...
I dont know if anyone has said it already but people take those crap cell phones and get the gold out of them. There is about a dollar or two in there and the people buy up or get a bunch dropped off at their recycle center and sell them to a mill to be proccessed overseas. Not that it makes you any money but drop it off at a recycle center!
@Vezmerize Well I was going to keep it. I threw it up on the bank and left and forgot it. Went back for it a few days later and the water was up. It got washed away.
You had me cracking up...good ole country feller with a sense of humor. Need to come down to lower New Yawk (Fl) and help me on these beaches. I am lost with all these uptight nawtherners, need more rednecks like us! Thanks for the video, but you can keep that white stuff! HH
@soccerstorm222 The 150 wasnt bad for starting out, but they make a Ace 250 which runs at around $250. Its a lot better machine and goes deeper in the ground..
@jmwnycprr The Ace 250 Does NOT go deeper than a 150. I have had both and called Garrett, who makes both, and they said the 250 does not go deeper, they both go the same depth, and have the same search coils. Besides, Pinpointing is not necessary for anywone who really knows how to use a Metal Detector because you can do it yourself with an X Pattern. It's called Xing the target, and that was also told to me by Garrett.
@biggstile I rarely use the pinpoint method. I can tell where it is with the centre hole in the coil. I noticed that the pinpointer aint always accurate.
@jmwnycprr The Ace 250 Does NOT go deeper than a 150. I have had both and called Garrett, who makes both, and they said the 250 does not go deeper, they both go the same depth, and have the same search coils.
@jmwnycprr I called Garrett, the maker of both and they say they both go the same depth. Paying more for a detector doesn't guarantee you better results, but knowing how to use your detector does. Besides, they use the same coils.
@soccerstorm222 Thanks! I was using an Ace 150. I was a little scared to use my 250 just in case I dropped it. My minelab isnt going near the water lol
Well ....Good try John....I don't know how Crunch does it...Maybe a stonger scoop as a start ? L.O.L. And staying within 10 feet of the bridge like he says...Water hunting is not for me ...Brrr.....It will be thawing out the next few days,so maybe we can get back to hunting all that was covered by snow....
@AmericanCoinHunting Yeah this whimpy scoop aint going to last. lol The bad thing is right under that bridge is boulders I had some signals between them but cant get in there. I was walking up stream messing around in the middle of no where and found a zincin. that other bridge had all kinds of cables and pipes under it and was too deep for me to use that detector under. If we get some spring floods maybe Ill try it again. Thanks for watching! HH!
I also have been watching Crunch, and decided I wanted to give it a try in some lakes, rivers, and swimming holes around here that have been around forever. I just purchased some stainless steel that I am using to make a water shovel similar to the Stealth shovel that Crunch uses. The alluminum sand scoops just aren't heavy duty enough to dig up rocky creek and lake bottoms. I enjoyed the video , it looked fun ...... HH
Was There a SD card in that phone? I found one last year in the water I took the SD card out and let it dry and it worked. It had some pretty good pics on it lol!!
That was a cool hunt... I thought I was watching Crunch (Dave) until I seen that scoop... LOL... You used the heck out of that thing... You and Dave are braver men than I... Good luck on your next hunt... We have our first group hunt on Sunday... Snow should be gone by then... If it isn't raining I plan on going Saturday.
@realredrebel Thanks! LOL It aint that bad in the creek. Must just be a northern thing lol Im an old trapper. i was wading frozen creeks when I was a kid. good luck on your hunt I hope the weathers nice for all of us. HH!
Each Cell Phone Contains $1.50 in Gold !! River hunting has to be approached like your looking for natural Gold.... Heavy metals like Silver and Gold will sink in the deeper pools and get trapped next to bigger rocks.... You want to check next to the big rocks and in the deeper pools....
Nice hunt John, I'm glad you gave it a go, that area looks pretty neat, I'm sure the older coins are in there. You did make some finds, and the next time will only get better, but you need a different scoop to get down in the rocks and stones, i learned the hard way with the scoops. You know, i find them rogers too..lol I'm glad you had a good time, i enjoyed watching. best of luck on your next hunt. HH
@crunch7077 Thanks for your help Dave! I really enjoyed the hunt. it was harder than it looks though lol. Im definatly getting a better scoop. That one wont survive the next hunt. lol HH!
Great video! I think that river/creek metal detecting could be a lot of fun, I am still waiting for Spring here, but these last two days we have been melting and some puddles are forming, I just hope it lasts! I need some waders and a scoop to get crazy with it though.
@jmwnycprr Where did you get your scoop from? Is there a metal gauge to look for? Steel over Aluminum I guess from the comments. Hey you should do a scoop article for Temerity Magazine. I am looking for a good pinpointer for the money so that is my article for April! LOL!
Dang, you got my luck.I have caught everything fishing.Even caught two cell phones when i got hung.I think folks get mad and toss those suckers overboard! What a wishing well.Someone must have been wishing for a grinding wheel!LOL!
@garbageguru1 Yeah that dang grinding wheel was giving a penny signal and I kept scooping and scooping it was hard to see. I finally started digging with my foot and it came out lol.
It's good you got out! I bought that same scoop from Ebay, killed it my first hunt, just kept bending back and mending it until I bought an upgrade. Good luck on your next hunt!
@Krisje44 Ik wacht op de sneeuw te smelten! Mijn steltlopers zijn neopreen ze warm te blijven. Het gaat om op te warmen deze week, dus ik zal doen wat land jagen. Bedankt voor het kijken!
@TejasDigger Yeah 3 Rogers lol. That scoop is cheap thin metal. i just heard Saturday is going to be in 40s with partly cloudy skys. Hope the ground is diggable. Thanks!
Is it typically illegal to go metal detecting in local "Forest Preserves"?

Can you use any kind of metal detector in freshwater rivers? Or certain kinds only?

@Passionofthetaint If the coil is waterproof. The housing on mine is not so I had to be careful not to drop it or get the housing wet.
