  • I love that.

  • awesome.....

  • @725Theangel Thanks for listening to one of my originals. I truly appreciate it!

  • Sure this is just the barest of bones in terms of recording and vocals....but some day you could really add a lot to really turn this into THE most wonderful finished piece. the ultimate tribute I can give to any artist or song is to call it Weaveresque....if you follow LadyWeaver then you will understand what that means...and that i don't say that to many people... Well, i just said it to YOU! Excellent Karen.

  • @tubesbestmusic Thanks Tom! I love LadyWeaver. She's phenomenal. I do have a polished version of this song recorded, but it's not exactly where I'd like it to be. It still feels like it's missing something. I will probably post the new version someday. I truly appreciate you checking out some of my originals. Cheers!

  • I love it! Will you come and play me to sleep with this some time? I live in Denmark. By the way, it reminds me a bit of the song Not While I'm Around from the movie Sweeney Todd. Find it on Youtube. It's a part of your melody, and the general message and feeling. By the way, your painting is awesome. It's cool to show off creative projects when you have the chance. So your filming location is well chosen.

  • @Plafintarr Thanks for noticing the painting in the background. Most people don't. Denmark may be a bit far for me to travel, but you can put this video on repeat at night. How about that? ;)

  • So peaceful! You are incredibly gifted!! Wonderful song!

  • @017mls Thanks! :) Glad you liked it!

  • Is that standard tuning?

  • No, it's not. I don't actually know what tuning it is anymore. I just mess about until I come up with something that sounds decent!

  • Hi Karen, I stumbled upon you while listening to at 17 by Janis Ian. I had to listen to more and must say you have a new fan! Love your voice and your style of music. This is a great song!

  • @MsStaceysmom Thank you so much!

  • Ok, I can't get this song out of my head. Do you have a CD of your original songs I can buy? You truley are wonderful and I want to listen to you not just at the computer but anywhere I want! I love the words to this song and your style but all your songs are great! Thank you!

  • beautiful tune and painting.

  • My Lord, what talent. I have just discovered you here searching for Stay (Lisa Loeb). I have not heard all your work yet, but this one is just fantastic and it's an original to boot! So I had to stop and write you a note. I've hit replay now for the fifth time, any suggestions :) (People say I obsess :)) I think I am in love Hell, I know i am.

  • Wow.

You continue to amaze, I hope the person you wrote this for was guided to a better place in their life. I can think of no better gift, than a song as reassuring and tranquil as this.

This music and the painting are a nice match, one draws you into the other... I can almost hear small waves lapping at the sand on an empty beach. :o)

Yesterday favorited, today subscribed. Looking forward to checking out more of your other works.

  • I'd love to share a cocktail with you, but somehow i don't think you drink.. :))

    All the best,

    Karen

  • Great song!

And I love the painting in the background!

  • Thanks Michelle. It's cool you noticed my painting (it inspired some of the song!)

  • Thanks, KB. I obviously don't care about my hair...look at it! ha ha!

  • Beautiful. I like how the second half of the verse (during the G part) you only complete lines rather than start new ones. The minimalistic lyric approach makes it easier to appreciate the sweet guitar melody.

The F creates a nice dissonant feel and I like how the lyrics during those parts introduce a negative element (storm, monster) and then resolve both lyrically and melodically back into the verse.

    Really well done.

  • You know more about what's going on musically with this song than I do! lol :) I'm glad you appreciate the little details. Thank you so much for listening!

  • Your a groovy chick!!!!!

  • Hi Karen,

What a nice and sweet melody... You're the talented one! And the best in that all is that you've got your own style.

  • Wow! I'm enthralled to say the least. You have a terrific voice! Deep and rich like Karen Carpenter kind of voice. Your command of dynamics is masterful too. I'm looking forward to getting through your repertoire.

    I'm glad I followed Molly's breadcrumbs.

  • What a fabulous compliment, batesm. Thank you!

  • Just checked out your channel. You're fantastic!

The painting is an original,too...I actually painted that =)

  • Beautiful! Is your artwork for sale anywhere?

  • Oh, heck no! That would mean I'd have to create more than one good painting...and everything else I've done is....well....sub-standard at best! LOL

I am, however, very flattered that you asked. You've inspired me to consider picking up the paintbrush again. I thank you.

  • Do it! I'm glad the one you've done is hanging somewhere (I have a thing for thunderstorms. Cheers for the subscription. Now I have to post more songs :)

  • Geat job on this tune. Keep up the strong work

  • excellent songwriter! this song sounds to me of a Nick Drake influence

the song would sound great arranged in a non standard tuning

  • Wow, thanks! This is tuned to DADEBE (I think). I just play around until I hear something I like. I'm always open to any other suggestions/collabs to make it better...

    5 stars!

  • I'm really liking your voice. In places, the song reminded me of Paul and Artie. :)

  • Probably in my top 5 in musical influences. I'll take that as a compliment!

  • I like that painting in the background. Sweet. I like your picking style. You'll have to teach me. All in all, a good song, Karen. Thoroughly enjoyable. I like the monster's gone part musically and lyrically.

  • Thanks, Jeremy. Glad you liked it! (I painted that, by the way!)

  • Very nice, and your guitar accompaniment was a perfect fit for the song. Also,it is appreciated that you also post the lyrics! *****

  • I always like to know what the lyrics are to the song I'm listening to.

  • Me too,I see myself as a lyricist more than anything and like to SEE the phrasing and "construction".Thanks! tom

  • Very nice my friend!

    Lai

  • Thanks for stopping by, Lai!

  • Nicely played, some really nice positions on the guitar there; great sound.

  • Thanks, Robin. I've been playing with different tuning. This one was DADEBE

  • I dabble with open tunings but find it a real drag tuning back and fore! DADGAD is a favourite for some lovely celtic tunes

  • I break more E strings that way! I'll have to play around with that one, too.
