Beautiful end to a pretty brutal album. This was the first Akercocke album I've heard and I'm pretty surprised they were able to pull off this type of song so well.
man... jason and david look good in tweed. its amazing how they resemble refined english gentlemen but sometimes their music completely contrasts with them... Akercocke is one in 6 billion
'Everything' by Lifehouse is a song about God. This is a song about Satan. I'm completely godless - but were I forced to follow one or the other based on musical talent, Satan wins this one hands down :-P
@Redrazor91 Well as of the last week he's changed his profile name twice just look up myspace.****com/fortheblind (take out all the asterisks, youtube won't allow links) 'The Black Mirror' and 'Breaking' are some of the best songs I've ever heard! He is the melodic genius of the band now!
One of the very few benefits of living in the UK is that there's a very real chance you can catch these live. They're just as incredible on-stage! Amazing band, you don't get much better than Akercocke!
Akercocke are at the leading edge of progressive metal... from the beautiful to the brutal, progressive and challenging and all at once. This is a fantastic album as have been all of their albums since their inception. People who claim metal is dead or has nowhere to go simply haven't heard bands like this one.
Nicely said. I'm pretty picky with my taste in music. This is good and not pretentious and rushed at all. Jason doesn't have the best of clean vocals (pretty like Akerfeldt) etc but it fits perectly, making it just as good and in all, this is more creative. This wasn't started with Opeth in mind at all, my comment I mean...Just came out. Ha! But for sake of argument, they are far better!! Heavy as hell, atmospheric and not afraid to worship Satan--our inner self! Hails!
I think Akerfeldt might be better at the "ethereal clean vocals" thing, but Mendonca has more range of vocal styles; can cover clean singing, throaty rasps, theatrical shouting or spoken word sections... I think a lot of Mendonca's strength comes from that versatility. Akerfeldt is awesome at what he does but it's somewhat more limited, pretty much either the growl, or super clean.
Oh and Benjamin wrote the lyrics; Mendonca sings. Just to clear that up for others. :)
Having now listened to this beautiful song, i want to kiss satan on the forehead.
