As an Indian: In near future India can never be the way most western nations are. When you envision India you should consider it to be 4 Times the size of Africa with 10 times diversity. So there are obvious problems(socio-economic) as they may be in Africa.
But, India is a very stable democracy. Its massive Investment in education has started paying off now. More secular than any western nation i have seen. All ensuring the number of such poors is decreasing drastically. give india some time.

i visited one in bhopal for my assignment n picture is entirely different..although they all hold BPL(below poverty line) cards for obtaining free n subsidized foodgrains they all had colour televisions ,refrigerators n even microwave ovens at their places...moreover in 10X10 area an average indian..

Employers in China can hire and fire workers; in India employers can hire but cannot fire employees. If employers cannot fire employees, then employers will not be bold enough to hire either. This has caused poverty in India.

this is inaccurately titled... its one truth... . but its not the only truth- it's misleading and sad that this is the only focus of a documentary that can do so much more to educate people. Frankly its propoganda and does nothing to change anything besides incite pity from watchers... these people dont even look unhappy... hopefully theres more to the truth out there if you take another look at the whole picture

dude according to undp, united nations development program, pakistan has a poverty rate of 17 percent, which inclined to 22 percent, under interntional poverty line (earning less than $1.25 a day).
India has 200 percent below her NATIONAL POVERTY LINE (50 cent a day) and 40 percent according to international.
