i hear good and bad things about these, i rather pay 100 bucks more and get a sig to be honest, i think the sigs just look awsome and with out a full guiderod i can take it apart without tools and cleaning is much easier. and NO lack of a full length guide rod does not affect accuracy AT ALL. each gun of this level is only as good as the person pulling the trigger.
you do know that sig makes 1911 single action pistols right? if not google it, or look on you tube, youll see they are the same exact guns, same mechanism, sig is just better all around. dont post novice replies if you are not sure. the fact you dont know sig makes a at least 3 different 1911 models shows you need to study up and buy a couple of guns, and start shooting for real instead of a video game console. BTW 2 is spelled TWO, not TOO
@JackSureshot Man, let the guy up for air a little. I've got a SA 1911, that's what brought me here, and he didn't piss me off. We're all allowed to have an opinion on here. You don't have to be a range pro to talk on here.
he said sigs and 1911 are too(two) very different guns, that is not an opinion, he is trying to convey a fact which is wrong because SIG is a company which DOES produce a 1911, to compete with the Springfield, just as Springfield produces a model XD to compete with Glock
the way i see it, the only benefit you would gain by jumpin into a sig, like you said, is faster field tear down...i guess the real question is, what are the pros and cons you've heard? if you wanted to make a jump that would be worth it...i'd say go kimber.
@eatmytool1 Agreed. I have the very same 1911-A1 and I absolutely love it, but it's no Kimber Desert Warrior. I have shot both a few hundred times - in and out of the Military - and I'll take the USMC special ops over any handgun made today.
@fred1671 oh yeah, don't get me wrong...i have this pistol too (it's my profile pic) and it has been and excellent weapon. i love my kimber too, but my only complaint with kimber is their price....you can't even start looking at a kimber without dropping $1100! i dropped 1375 for mine. but this springfield only set me back about $800.
@JackSureshot The M1911A1 does not have a guide rod in it atall. It just has the recoil spring. They are two very different guns made at WAY different times. The M1911A1 was in service from 1911-1985 and has proven its effectivness and reliability by far.
Please the idea that colts weapons are the best in the industry is nonsense. I own many of their weapons but the High school drama of what company's are the best. Same childish nonsense like the "console wars."
What do you guys who are owners of this pistol think of it? I'm thinking about buying one tomorrow. I was looking at an RIA, but I would rather buy something American made instead, especially if it's a Springfield. Plus I hear RIA's are alot heavier than Colt, Springfield, etc. Anyone have any problems with the Springfield 1911A1? I'm torn between Parkerized finish or Stainless steel.
Version parkerized !! Aucun probleme avec ce modele, juste une fois, la culasse (sale) ne se verrouillait pas completement, un peu d'huile et c'etait resolu.RIA ? connait pas...
RIA = Rock Island Armory. I hear they are a decent 1911, but they're supposed to be more of a "knock-off." Like they are pretty good, but they aren't like a Springfield or a Colt. They are also less expensive. But I heard they are alot heavier than other 1911s. Sorry I'm a little rusty on my French. But yeah I'm thinking parkerized is what I want.
Ah ok. RIA n'est pas connu en France, je n'en n'avait jamais entendu parlé avant.Vous, aux USA, vous avez le choix pour un 1911, vous pouvez en prendre plusieurs, de differents modeles...
Rock Island Armory is also made in the Phillipines. I'm not a prejudiced person, but I would rather buy something American made. I feel better about my money going back into American business.
Do you know anything about firearms? 1911's are some of the hardest to beat accuracy pistols! Maybe you should do a little more research before trash talking a firearm even when 98yrs old; still serves us well.
Why don't you start asking pro's before you mouth off like that. The sighting Radius, Grip angle, slimness. Your probably a bad shot or don't know what point of view is or 6 o'clock sighting.
the .45 bullet already comes with it's own problems right out of the box. a NEW 1911A1 might be good from the start. put a few hundred rounds down the barrel, and you hit everything BUT the target. give me a Glock, a Sig or FNH anyday
Really? I havn't had any problems with a 1911 or the 45 in that respect in any aspect. I have several friends who have owned 1911's for years and they never had any problem. The only thing they replaced were recoilsprings. Why do so many competitors use 1911's instead of the vast selection out there? If you don't dig 1911's then fine; its not your thing. But don't critizise a well established and justified firearm of that; even when aproaching 100yrs of age is still used and trusted as a firearm
You over exaggerate and change the subject. Realistic handgun engagements are within 25 meters and the 45 works fine at 25 meters. Don't even mention m9's, a 1911 is strictly 45 in design. You hate on the caliber and firearm while the philosophy of use is disregarded. The 45 is one of the worlds most successful cartridges and IS accurate.
The bullets do not lose enough kinetic energy to "bounce off paperclip" within a realistic range. Also the lowered energy has proven more effective for stopping targets. The m9 made military spec for its cheapness and ease of use; not because of "Die Hard".
no. the M9 was chosen over the SIG only because of the price tag. military stuff especially U.S. is not always "great" because it's military. don't you know that they spend the least amount of money to equip it's soldiers with the cheapest shit out there! yuck.
HAVE YOU EVEN READ MY REPLY, Ill put it in quotes "The m9 made military spec for its cheapness and ease of use; not because of "Die Hard". " Don't you think I know that? Especially when I had to school you on the 1911 and the 45 cal. I grew up with firearms, don't mistake me about what I know.
also more and more police are choosing not to carry .45 autos. the .45 likes to bounce off windshields. another piece of shit besides german guns is the Beretta 92F. YUCK! it has that slide problem with an over long trigger pull and bulky grip. not mention that is has exposed sear!!! jesus christ! an exposed sear! the fuck ups at beretta never had it so good when hundreds or orders poured in from it's widespread use in the Leathal Weapon and Die Hard series. ugh....
the sights are alot better it has a skeletonized hammer and trigger full length guide rod extended beaver tail extended thumb safety and slide release.
its not really an A1 at all it has way to many modern day features
It would be a 1911-A1 if it was issued to a soldier during or before 1924. That is the only difference. So if that is a civilian model or issued to a soldier after 1924 is would be considered a 1911 type pistol.
only partly true an A1 is a government issued 1911 that was built after 1924. they tested the performance of the regular 1911 and did a few alterations on the gun for better performance in the military they called that gun the 1911-A1. not all 1911s after 1924 are A1s just the military ones
dude i have 2 A1's .. A1s (springfield mil-spec "A1") have very minor differences compared to the original 1911 (springfield GI model). which are flared ejection port, beveled mag well, shorter trigger, and trigger finger reliefs.. its just a couple simple upgrades. i dunno why you're making it such a big deal, those upgrades werent made until 1924 which classified it as the new A1
I had a friend in about 1990 who owned a former Military GI Issue .45, it was cool to see. The only problem is he went to prison for shooting it at a cop, he missed fortunately. I don't know the circumstances, I think it got to be a domestic problem with his girlfriend, sad incident. Lost contact with him.......as you can imagine.
really my question is, is a 1911 as accurate as a modern day polymer pistol, well this one i mean cause my dads buying the sr9 and i want this but i also want accuracy, is this accurate to up to 20 yards?
My Springfield Trophy Match gets 1/4" 7 shot groups at 25 yds, with Rem 230 Grain JHP. The 1911 will beat any centerfire semiauto defense pistol out there, providing you get a good one. Les Baer, a semi custom company, has pistols that will sho0t 1/4 inch groups at 50 yds with the right ammo; I'd challenge any Glock, HK, Smith, or Sig semiauto's to put up those numbers.
if you want accuracy, the CZ 97 is the best choice for a combat .45, but i personally prefer the 1911 because it´s a traditional handgun and .45acp has still better accuracy than many standard 9x19 polymer guns...
yeah.. nice gun but the TRUE GI mil spec 1911 has a spur hammer, solid aluminum trigger without holes a a different spring plug. Nice gun though. I own a 1911A1 mil spec Springfield.
Yeah, I prefer the true GI over the loaded down custom 1911's any day. I love mine. The only thing that's different about mine is it's stainless steel, but it's still considered to be the GI model. Oh, and don't forget the sights are different on the true GI model too.
Well the GI was the first model, so the proper grip shouldn't give you hammer biter or they would have changed it a long time ago. I've never shot in competitions, but I have shot at ranges and training scenerios. I've used a number of handguns, and I get my hand gripped as high as I can on everyone. Never got hammer bite in my life. I would have to imagine someone who get's hammer bite from a .45 of anytime has a limp wrist.

Can't get a proper grip with the GI 1911's, unless you want it to hammerbite the crap out of your hand.
RebelWrestler45 3 years ago
I've heard of that happening but it's never happened to me. Mine works like a charm.
FRecon333 3 years ago
If you use proper high ride, layered thumb grip (the grip competition shooters use), the GI 1911 will give you hammer bite.
RebelWrestler45 3 years ago
Well the GI was the first model, so the proper grip shouldn't give you hammer biter or they would have changed it a long time ago. I've never shot in competitions, but I have shot at ranges and training scenerios. I've used a number of handguns, and I get my hand gripped as high as I can on everyone.
