Yesss. I'm about to finish the Manga. Kakihara there is MUCH scarier. Always a bit off, he doesn't look that stylish, rather fakked-up with that constantly drugged/lazy/off-putting look in his eyes, as if he might collaps anytime of simply jump at yer throat whilst the movie-Kakihara just has just style and a stylish calmness to him. He seemed controlled, in the Manga he totally unpredictable. And lacks "style", he's just the dangerous, odd maniac your mothers always warned you of.

Yup, this is the "real" Kakihara... That's why:

For everyone who didn't know - this anime is a prequel to MANGA, not to movie by Takashi Miike. Movie prequel is called 1-Ichi (really bad, don't even watch it )

I have read the manga and believe me or not - comic book is way better than Miike's movie. At the beginning I thought Kakihara looks weird, but now i like his original version even more.

However, whole "ichi universe" is amazing ;)

Manga's way better, in fact I'm reading it for my second time right now and I've seen the movie a handful of times. For those confusing "Episode Zero" with the live action film adaption by Takashi Miike, do realize this is before the manga happens. The Miike film is a redone Koroshiya Ichi in a more "mainstream" matter. For example, the genital mutilation and necrophilia aren't in tact in the movie. If only had the whole manga been turned into a full-length anime it'd of been fucking sweet.

You know the Ichi the Killer movie is damn good in my opinion. So the manga is better but that's usually true with all book to movie adaptions. The point is I think Miike did a great job condensing a hull 10 volume manga series into a two hour movie. He truly captured the essence of what Ichi the Killer is. A FUCKED UP yet equally awesome story with unforgettable characters that truly make you think about what kind of world we live in.

Tough part to believe is this is the only 'anime' version of Ichi the Killer which is just this episode. It took a little while to get used to the animation and style but just when it was getting good, it leads up to the movie. Which is of course, fine by me since the movie was fantastic.

Worth a rental. I think it was more of a 'a little pinch more of what the fans like and what left we can give'em of ICHI'. The episode should be more of a watch simply because it's interesting. If you want real blood and gore, just read classic Hokuto no Ken. :)
