  • I cant believe Im showing my gusset in a refreshment room!

  • Hahaha genius!

  • Oh Joe Buggersthorpe!

  • LMFAO @ mince pie in the eye lol lol. Ive just watched the movie (again) and this is so close in so many ways regarding the characters, the accents, the set, the costumes and the speech patterns. Brilliant!

  • God, first time I saw this with the mince pie n the eye me and my brother were rolling on the floor, crying with laughter xD love Victoria :)

  • rw

  • is that parkinson as the train conductor?

  • @ajraymond1 Certainly is! Great British comedy! Long live Victoria! Wood that is!

  • So perfect! The Rachmanninoff.....the coconut.....the mince in the eye.....

  • I always keep someorange-pekoe for the middle classes

  • First watched this in 2000 when it aired. I was 16, and I'd never seen Brief Encounter. But I roared with laughter. The mark of a great parodist (French and Saunders can do this too) is that you can 'get it' even if you're not familiar with the source.

I was finally compelled, at 27, to watch Brief Encounter for the first time (a fantastic film, btw). Now I marvel at V's talent: she perfectly respects and recreates the tone of the film, and makes it funny. It's complete genius.

  • WONDERFUL. especially the pork pie bit.

theres a war on in case you havent noticed.!!!!

  • i watch this on a regular basis just to cheer me up .... I love the way she corrects herself about how long she has been married @ 2.30 very clear

  • "My wife takes drugs.... It's my fault... I brought them home for a joke! " Classic line!

  • I must order my coconut tomorrow!

  • Brilliant! Most needful laugh to cheer me from the maudlin reverie into which I sank watching the original film.

  • Brilliant! Most needful laugh to cheer me from the maudlin reverie into which I sank watching the original film.

  • i watched the original film today.. how posh did everyone sound..? This is such a brilliant parody.. love it..!!

  • This was on TV yesterday (23 Dec 2010). Absolutely brilliant, had to watch it again!

  • It's just that she can be rather vicious and she takes drugs.

  • Love Victoria Wood, very talented, very funny, she should do lots more work

  • Great parody. You really need to have a respect for the original to be able to pull off a clever parody.

  • I LOVE THE ENDING....lmao

  • LMAO I LOVE THE ORIGINAL....and the parody is brilliant lol

  • there's a war on if you havent noticed!

  • Thaynk yoe sow mach. Reayly quiyte wanderful! A delyte to wautch.

  • If one can disregard the crudeness that Victoria often displays in her parodies, her humour can seem somewhat refreshing and entertaining. If she could disassociate herself from the flow of her colleagues who seem to rejoice in crudeness and perversity, she might be on to a good thing. Her education and acquistion of things beyond normalcy, might then be put to better effect.

  • @avuncular300 and thats Miss Wood I'll have you know, not Victoria. Dont be so famiar, dont you know theres a war on. I think that you have missed the point of this suberb, intellectual and clever parody my friend, and try running comments through a grammar check as they do not 'scan' at all. Hope this helps. A tin of Orange Pekoe I keep for the middle classes, sheer genius.

  • lol

  • Aw that was hilarious!!! Brief Encounter is my favourite film and this is the first parody I've seen - too funny!!! Their voices and mannerisms are so spot on! Well cast too! - WOW!

  • I love Brief encounter. love the parody.

  • "You married, Bob?"

"Yes, my wife's a bit of an old trout, I'm afraid."

"You sound as if you don't care for her very much."

"Not at all. We're very devoted. It's just she can be very vicious and she takes drugs" 2m15s

  • What can I say? Brilliant! Have made my own Brief Encounter Parody! Love the received pronounciation!

  • "Shall I hit you over the head with a carp?" Ha !

  • It's so long since I'd had a mince pie, I suppose I'd forgotten how to eat it. Somehow I missed my mouth altogether, and put it straight in my eye.

    TOO TOO FUNNY.

  • @Moocherx - That reminds me of Ted Stryker's drinking problem...

  • who is actress playing Vida ?

  • This is brilliant......I love the original...!!

  • This is fantastic... The more times I watch this, the more hilarious lines I find. The mincepie bit is so so hilarious. The original is one of the best-written scripts ever. So moving. Check out the movie.

  • If you like this you must type in Harry Enfield Norbert Smith and find his own parody. It'sa mock documentary of a hack English actor. The version of Hamlet as rewritten by Noel Coward is also good value. Thanks for posting, I love Victoria Wood but I hadn't seen this.

  • I found Brief Encounter absurd... So I'm loving this. This is a brilliant

"I'd gone into Wolverton to change my library book and order a coconut." Ha Ha.

  • @knobchock

You found Brief Encounter "Absurd" ????? Why ?

It is so evocative of those days if you were living in the South. Beautifully-written. Nowadays, of course, they just woulda gone off & had a sh*g, but it was all "forbidden love" in those days. Wonderful film.

  • @bootsamou I agree- I'm not a big fan of romantic movies, but I really like Brief Encounter. The last 5 minutes are so heart wrenching, that they didnt get to even say goodbye to one another. And not because of a cataclysmic event, but just because the wrong person arrived at the wrong time- felt very realistic, to me, at least/ and I was born in the 80's!

  • with name like Knobchuck, I am sure that a film about sensitivtity and intelligence is well beyond you

  • Goodness, I happened to stumble onto this clip and it's absolutely brilliant - when was it made?

  • About 20 years ago, I think. It was a sketch show called "Victoria Wood on TV". There's another great parody of Brief Encounter by Harry Enfield. Look for "Norbert Smith - A Life Part 5" in Related Videos.

  • This isn't from "Victoria Wood As Seen On TV" - it's from Wood's Christmas sketch show special ("With All The Trimmings"), shown in December 2000.

  • Ah, okay. I didn't realize it was a recent as that.

  • I didn't think I'd like that, being such a huge fan of Brief Encounter, but I thought it was quite funny, and I particulary liked Michael Parkinson! That was a part he was born to play! haha

  • Not Michael Parkinson, but the ever-superb Duncan Preston playing Stanley Holloway in the original film of Brief Encounter. DP plays him as "standard yorkshireman 628B", for which read "Michael Parkinson".

This is one of the GREAT parodies of classic cinema. The whole feel of thew film is absolutely 100%

  • @LordMountararat

Playing Joe Buggerthorpe !! Ha ! Brilliant !

  • Oh, BRAVO! Excellent clip. Hurrah!

  • Absolutely brilliant parody.

  • Classic Victoria Wood. Doesnt Celia Imrie look fabulous! Always the unsung hero of the funniest sketches.

  • "Those who don't ask don't win no parsnips, that's for sure"

I love the Tea Room attendant - so funny + the clipped accent!

  • Which show is this from? As Seen on TV?

  • It's from Victoria Wood with All the Trimmings.

  • just fantastic.. the old trout behind the counter steals the whole thing!.

  • "I have a nice tin of Orange pekoe I keep for the middle classes' Platinum standard", I love Victoria Wood and her whole entourage

  • This is so funny. Only watched Brief Encouner the other nite so it's still fresh in my mind. Great film but a great parody here too!

  • I was totally influenced by Brief Encounter when I fimed 'Years Between' A Seaford Story I left out the dialogue, This one is so funny

  • "I can't believe I'm showing my gusset in a refreshment room" !!

  • Watched this several times now ~ the mince pie bit still has me absolutely wetting myself ~ and I keep finding new things like "Shall I hit you over the head with a carp?". Brilliant.

  • What a piece of work...sheer lunacy. Brilliant!!

  • Great!! Love the mince pie bit!!

Yes ~ DO check out the original film ~ it is fantastic ~ so moving.

  • This is a hysterical parody of Brief Encounter! Thanks for sharing this!

  • jeez..thats how people spoke when i was a kid

  • I love this!

  • Watched it after the original clip. Wot light relief!

  • It completely takes the piss out of a wonderful, moving movie but I love it!

  • Such a jolly hoot!

  • what an absolute scream! the origial however will always be the best.

  • wonderful!

please do check out the real film as well - its amazing!

  • Brilliant!
