  • the words are disappearing too fast >.<

  • GREAT videos! Ive lived in Japan for 10 months now and have been struggling to speak the language. So happy I found your channel, thanks :)

  • When reading most japanese words, being unable to speak the language as of yet, I always thought the "u" at the end of most words was emphasized. You, however don't seem to emphasize or you do but it is very fast. I would just like to know whether to say Japanese words and emphasize the "u" or not.

  • You are a samurai!! Lol

  • what do u say to people working in stores? and what are they saying to us upon walking in?

  • @remar05

    IRRASHAIMASE!

  • Konnichiwa Victor sensei:

Ogenki desu ka. Ima, watashi wa okage sama de. (is this ok to add the "ima, watashi wa" in front?)

When my husband comes back home late from work, is it proper to say...

    "Otsukaresamadeshita" to him.

Or if he's not home yet, but I can no longer keep my eyes open waiting... before going to sleep... I would send a IM saying ... Otsukaresamadeshita. Oyasumi

I wonder if I could do that too....

  • @Laura17T

Yeah, I think sending him a PM like that would be fine. But I wouldn't say it once he got home.

  • I have a question about the お疲れさまでした。。what if I didn't do the work but someone else does it for me? is there a set phrase for that? Thanks!

  • @iceypickett

    Not quite getting your question.

  • best lesson !!

i definitely feel that i am getting the phrases that i have not been finding in those phrase books.

    i'm still watching your channel.

i hope to see more !!

  • what do u say to ur teacher when leaving their daily class @ school?

    (see you tomorrow?)

    mata ne

    (see you later?)

  • Mata ashita.

    Mata kondo.

    Mata ne.

    gimmeaflakeman

  • so can you say itadkimasu when ordering food or a drink or something by pointing at what you want and saying itadakimasu

  • U should prolly say

    "(thing you want) お願いします"

to avoid confusion. And laughter, aimed in your general direction.

  • so u can ask for somthing with itadkimasu

like milk itadkimasu or juiceu itadkimasu

  • Keep up the good work, hope to learn more!

  • People should rate these videos more high. 5 stars.

  • goshushousama deshita - u cal also say it when a firend of yours get maarried xDDD

  • Victor sensei, Arigato gozaimasu.

  • you are the man!!! thanks for teaching us.......

  • HaHaHaHa!

You have the Japanese person's identity .

There are a perfect nuance, emotion and flavor for your Japanese words(言霊).

I looked for '"End of day" greeting.(お疲れ様です。)' English words very much.

    thank you very much!

  • Arigato gazaimasu!

    you help me alot!

  • sensei!

domo arigatou, great lessons great spelling

one of the few jewels in youtube

    omedetou!

    またね!

  • its the same in the UK stuff like its cold today and its raining agen if you come from the west cost lol

  • thank you man your videos really help

    domo erigato gozsaimashta :)

  • what does the "deshita" part mean?

  • It is past tense for "desu" which is used like the "be" verb in English. So in short

    deshita=was

    But not exactly.

  • Hey there (1)-love your videos, really informative!

    (2) 'bokualec' said he had problems with his glasses because he was told they weren't simple enough. yours look just as his ones -did you have any problems? bye

  • Bokualec? Uh.... no idea who that is, but my glasses give me no problems --- other than showing the world how nerdy I am.

  • o_O anata wa samurai desu *bows* teehee

  • Great stuff. Gokurousama is missing the long 'rou' though.

  • Spelling is tricky if you use ROMAJI, you know? It can be spelled different ways.

  • wuts teh kanji on your t-shirt?

  • Samurai.

  • how about them red sox?!?!?! lol i love you!!!

  • Hello Gimmeabreakman!!

You have nice videos, man! How long you have been here? I came 1,5 years ago and still learning japanese. Just to add a bit to your lesson, i've learned that, in the "work/office environment", OTSUKARESAMA is used between "same level" employees, while GOKUROUSAMA is an expression used when "superiors" want to thank their subordinates! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and wish you a wonderful week.

  • Yes. Good point. I mention it in the comments below..but I should have said it in the video.

  • Arigatou gozaimashita!

    tanoshiidesune ^_^; i hope that's right...

    Subscribing!

  • Thank you very much Victor, you are really helping me! Arigatou gozaimasu!

  • goshushousama, osakini!

  • Nice job, but careful on the gokurosama (desu/deshita/etc) usage; it is usually said by a superior or elder, and a young person saying this would seem rude or arrogant. Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • No, you are right. I mention this in comments below I think.

  • C.E.R.C.L.

these are AMAZING and very helpful by the way

  • nevermind, i found it out myself^^

  • Tell me what you were talking about? I cannot understand your question....but I am very curious...

  • hi, i wanted to ask you a question about japanese, but i dont know where to put it, so i put it here... here it goes:

at the end of many japanese frases we can hear sometimes a termination that sounds like "A I O"

    sometimes its like "V A I O"

sometimes iv heard something like: "TACTEVAIO"

    what does this means?

    Thanks in advance

  • Great stuff!

  • Ok thanks a lot Victor. This may be a bit late but this guy from the office saw me coming in today and he said おご苦労様 to me.

  • Another one should be up in a week or so.

  • dude thanks a lot i listen it over and over!!! i think i'm not too bad too.

  • Another one should be up in a week or so.

  • good job man, looking forward to it.

  • Hoooooray, been waiting for another installment. Watashi wa nihongoga wakarimasen

  • Thank you so much, please make more!

  • Another one should be up in a week or so.

  • Thanks for doing this, Victor. I'm taking Japanese at school (私はいちねんせい) and this was some good side stuff to know! It also taught me some new kanji (which is already complicated enough for me to learn. XD).

    Make another one! Good work!

  • Woooo, love these videos. I would be so proud of myself If I could just order at a restaurant or something simple like that in Japan.

  • "Hi Victor,

Please do another one of these videos. It would be really cool if you did one with a bunch of expressions you don't find in the textbooks...

    Yeeeeeee Haaaaaaaaa...."

Jack Seward has already done that

  • Link please.

  • At university I had this friend who wanted to learn "My friend will pay." in all the world's languages.

  • and I thought German had some really long words...

  • Hi Victor,

Please do another one of these videos. It would be really cool if you did one with a bunch of expressions you don't find in the textbooks...

    Yeeeeeee Haaaaaaaaa....

  • Good idea...another one should be up before the year is over! I hope! But my main computer broke... so... we'll see.

  • Oh god these haters are so annoying and need to get a life. Why are they even watching this if they don't want to learn something?! I think this vid took ages to make and it is so useful! Thank you so much for making it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I look forward to more!

  • Wow! Thanks for noticing. And yes it did take a long time to make.

  • What does go Kama sutra mean?

I think it means you are going to have some sex.

  • Kama = God

    Sutra = Indian Hand Sign

You have your cultures mixed up. T-T

  • 'you are one of the most annoying men on this planet.... I dont know what it is but you just bug the fuck out of me'

I hope this is directed at me it makes life seem worthwhile.

  • What does go Kama sutra mean?

  • NO idea. Not Japanese!

  • Thanks for the reply, and man that's a very hard language, I'd probably mess it up and get my ass kicked.-P.i.T

  • Thanks Victor! I love these videos!

  • Wow! One of the most on the whole planet! How close to number one am I? Top 100? Top 10? What an honor, pegelito!

  • You are right, I think konnichiwa is the standard way I hope Victor does not say it is something else.

  • how do you say hello in japanese?

and also how do you say dog?

im pretty sure dog is inu?

    but im not sure

  • Check the video this one is linked to. There are several greetings you can use!

  • Dog is INU! Yes!

  • Slow down!U r going too fast.....guess I can pause it...thankx, always wanted to learn Japanese, my brother is stationed there, it can be useful if I go visit him.

  • ot ... what? that's so long LOL

  • Captain Jack kept staring into my eyes, it will make learning hard!

  • You are wonderful!! *crushors*

  • i have a question

    how did YOU learn japanese?

  • Dude, I love your videos. Very handy. Thanks a lot!

  • thank you victor!

  • i'think i'll notice that, Arigatou^^

  • Ok Victor, I think I've got it.

    Ready for Japanese Expressions 3!!!

  • This video is great! :-)

  • Mind you 1 in 3 Americans probably think it is in America.

  • Domo arigato! Really like learning these expressions, hope you plan on doing more.

  • Here is something to make you laugh. Apparently one in three Britons think Everest is in Europe!

  • Vic don't say we are going to have a Japanese usage war.

  • great lesson and explanation. -subscribes- ^^

  • oh man...i'm not gonna remember all of this...

  • Favorite it and watch it a zillion times. You'll get it.

  • hahaha alright thanx a bunch

  • Itadakimasu!

thanks for giving us these lessons!I must find some times to keep practicing these! Thanks Sensei Victor-san!

  • Although I haven't seen the video おつかれさま is what you say when you feel someone is below you , おご苦労様 is much safer.

  • You got it backwards.

  • I love these language videos. I think the whole process of explaining any language (but Japanese very especially) by including the thinking that goes on behind the usage tells you such a fascinating story about the culture. (And Japanese culture is just so distinctive --- long may it remain so!)

    Many, many thanks again.

  • Thanks!

  • Hi there, you gotta watch out with 「ご愁傷様/です/でした」

When you want to express condolence, DO NOT use it WITHOUT です or でした

Because the expression is so formal, ご愁傷様 is more used in ironical or sarcastic connotaion in daily conversation, something like "That's too bad." So if you use ご愁傷様 WITHOUT です or でした, it would sound you're been sarcastic !!

I would recommend お悔やみ申し上げます just to avoid misinterpretation.

  • Nice video, maybe I should take a japanese class

  • Hey man! Thanks for watching!

  • Japanese lessons are always welcome :)

Keep them coming. Take care and see you around :)

  • Wahh, so many long words. Another good lesson though!

  • hehe its strange i moved to norway over 1 year ago and they are also talking about the weather all the time xD

  • ありがとうございますビデオすごいです!

  • Just a little advice...You neeed to shave off the goatee. It has bald patches in it. The soul patch looks fine tho. Some people look good with a goatee but you and I do not look good with one. Mine looked a little fuller than yours and I still shaved mine off!

  • I don't really care what people think. My wife likes it. She has ultimate veto power! :)

  • WHO CARES?

  • Is that your wife speaking between? 0_o btw when can we meet her? Or at least me! 5/5

  • I think using "gokurosamadesu" is more difficult than "otsukaresamadesu".

There are some elderly people who get upset when young people say "gokurosamadesu" to them.

Because some people think that it is the word for infeior people. mmm...:-( I'm sorry I don't know how to explain this exactly. For example,we use "gokurosama" to the home delivery man when we receive some goods. Ah..please excuse my English. :,-(

Anyway, maybe you should better to watch out when you say "gokurosama".

  • Yes, you are right! You should NOT use gokurosama for people you wish to show you respect!

  • Oops! I'm sorry. You know very well!

Yes,exactly,we usually say gokurosama to home delivery man. You already said that in this video.Sorry.

Anyway, this video is great. You speak very good Japanese.:-)))

  • Thanks for another lesson. These are a bit harder, but I did know how to say happy birthday. So, hopefully I'll get the others soon :) Thank again!

  • Thanks for watching! AND thanks for the comments!! They keep me motivated!

  • Yay! I'm glad I can help motivate you, cos I find you're videos funny, as well as helpful. Which motivates me to learn. So, we're motivating each other, which is a good thing :)

  • sou desu ne!

  • Wow. In the first one I easily knew pretty much all of the expressions, but in this one I hardly know any. Great stuff, Victor. Anata no bideo wa sugoi desu ne?! I have little to no idea if that makes any sense at all.

  • Also, I have a question. I think this video is sort of like a gift to us, since you're teaching, so would I express my gratitude with itadakimasu, gokorusama or do I just disregard the whole gift idea and go with arigatou gozaimasu?

  • Lastly: I've used a Japanese language learning program, visited a few sites to further my Japanese, but one of the things I've never really been able to learn and would really like to is the sentence structure. I once got a audio language-learning programme for German, and one of the first things it teachers is the sentence structure, and then gives you more words to throw in there and mix around with. I found it much easier to learn that way.

  • For "thank you" just say ARIGATOU GOZAIMASU!

As for sentence structure? That is tougher! I'll tackle that later... but I wonder if there aren't lessons on that already out there!?

  • Anata no bideo wa sugoi desu ne.

    ---

    Perfect!

Thanks, Shhadow781! It took HOURS to add the subtitles!

  • I LOVE these! Makes me feel justified in my addiction! 'cause I'm actually learning something : )

  • (BLUSH!)

  • Stoked on the videos.... Please keep em coming!!

If I can't stop bowing whilst speaking japanese... I'll know where I picked it up.

  • LOL! Yes, the bowing is hard to stop!

  • Awesome video!

  • Woo another video! Thanks Vic!

=) You are really helping me in my learnings of Japanese. I really appreciate it!

If you can, I'd love if you could keep these videos coming, as they are really great.

    Well, once again, thanks!

    - RJ

  • You are very welcome!

  • And at the same time, you are very welcome for welcome me. I think? o,O

Hehehe, well thanks for the reply =) Glad to see you still check your comments.

And I know this may sound weird, but I was wondering if you could actually send me the video files for your "lessons"? Just so I could take them on the go and practise them at school.

    Thanks if you can! =D

  • Very cool..... just a little over my head.... but I like watching it 5's

  • Keep studying and one day this will be child's play!

  • Which reminds me, I forgot to say this to you last June: ごしゅしょうさまでした!

  • LOL!

  • Thanks for clarfying the difference between おつかれさま and ごくろさま. I was never entirely clear on that. (And I remembered to rate!)

  • どういたしまして!

  • Lol. All Japanese people want to talk about the weather? Haha, I grew up in Kansas and it was the same way. I guess that Japanese people and Kansans have that single, strange joining line.

  • Thanks for the vocab. I wish it were easier to relate to words in english, because those are the only japanese words I'll ever remember. like nany, nanda, soda, soka? (super soaka'). Not having spaces between the parts makes things even worse. It's hard to remember without actually studying.

  • These videos are very awesome. I highly hope that you'll make more of these. I'm learning japanese level 1 and those extra lessons are very nice.

  • Yeah, Victor! You rock hard!

    Keep 'em coming!

  • Thanks for watching oh, evil one!

  • Thanks for commenting, Kevinwhat.

  • Thank you for thos video. I like being able to see more complicated phrases than こんにちは、お元気です。。。I learn something this way.

  • Thanks for rating and commenting! I appreciate it!

  • Hey...you used the old intro again :)

    Anyways, these expressions are useful.

Thanks for the lessons, hope to see more ^^

  • No problem, I always enjoy these kinda lessons ^^

  • Love it!! Keep those Lessons comming!

  • Thanks for rating and commenting! I appreciate it! Keep doing it and I'll make more.

  • Echi shite kudasai... Anata no ketsu wa kusa da oyobi ore wa shibakariki da...

  • Urgh! Dirty boy!

  • Why? I was only saying I apreciated the video. Maybe my Japanese online translator betrayed me...

  • LOL! Good response!

  • yo pensaba que ITADAKIMASU era algo así como "gracias por la comida" pero ya veo que significa en verdad. BTW here "samukunarimashita"

  • It is often used that way..but can also just be said when receiving something.

  • oh man thats way to hard to learn...lol

  • Not really..not once you get back the strangeness of the sounds. Or rather the unfamiliarity of it!

    Thanks for commenting.

  • I think being around a foreign language for even a couple weeks a guy may pick up on it better, But this is tuff this way. Maybe I should try haveing a bride flown in.

  • You should come over and do some window shopping first.

  • I love how he bows lightly.. lol YOSHI!

  • Thanks for commenting, gayboitoy82...it has become ingrained.

  • that's ok, I stick out my tongue when I am really concentrating on something...it's embarrassing.

  • Nothing less than epic. Thanks, Victor.

  • Epic!? Wow! Well, editing was tough.

  • Great lessons.

  • Thank you magic9man2!

  • I really enjoy these lessons, thank you so much for your effort!

This lesson is significantly harder than the last one. :)

  • Angelsson. Thanks for the encouragement.

  • Great Video Victor! Important stuff there

  • Thanks! More in Dec. and Jan!

  • Since when is there an education category? Pretty cool!

Oh yeah and great video. A part of me really regrets quitting Japanese in college, so this is helpful and fun!!

And while I'm here, I might as well throw five stars in there : )

  • Thanks speedy! I see your counting video went through the roof in views! 6,891! Wow!

  • I know! Things got a little crazy over there. I think I also have to thank my first real hater for that LOL

  • Please leave comments, rate, etc...!

  • first
