I had every sympathy with Chris Boardman when he was diagnosed with the same medical condition as myself. I was also a keen cyclist but nothing on the scale of Chris - I was only 26 when I developed the osteoporosis bone loss condition on quite a severe level (I am now 30) so I gave up cycling and lived on medications as apart from fractures & I was shrinking quite fast & I lost over 12cms in standing height so far.
I've built on £4000 bikes and could do better job than some of the halfords builders but being 16 jobs impossible 2 get, bought comp 2007/08 ebay 2day don't know if latest model race at £599 will drop further when stocks lower:S
I bought a SLR9.0 two weeks back. It is a great Bike. I just changed the pedals and ordered new wheels. It is a fantastic light weight bike as compared to my previous alloy/Carbon Spego 150. I feel the great difference. Thanks to CBoardman. From Bharain.
I've got a Road Comp and I think it's great value and great weight, I will upgraded the wheels and saddle but other than that I'm very happy with it. I do think halfords deserve a little pat on the back for bringing the boardman bikes to the masses as do boardman for not churning cheap heavy cr#p and putting in a great effort to give us a good bike what ever model you can afford. Well done Chris Boardman
its about the bike not the badge, i bought a pro hardtrail and it is a far far superior bike to my previous scott and giant for which i paid similar money.
I agree with the negative comments about Halfords. I have just bought my first bike in 10 years, a Team Carbon. When I got it home my brother looked it over and was appalled at the state of it. He knows his bikes and has had to adjust just about everything. The rear brake hardly worked. Will never have a Halfords built bike again. Certainly not taking it back for the 6 week service, will be taking it to a professional.
Got the same bike, Picked it up today and it was mess....Halfords are a bunch of cowboys...the bike is great just don't get them to set it up for you.
I'll add on some forums they say the boardman is just an upmarket rebranded Carrera ,, and having own 2 carrera's my older Carrera is a better frame wheras my current Fury model is good but not all that great and the Gears are fuked already in gear and i've only had mine since december ..
Another point is every bloody carrera doesn't come with a rigid front fork option just like every other Mountain Bike .
Yes, buy it from Halfords ( you have to, it's exclusive) , but for Gods sake buy it boxed. Halfords have got rid of all the full time bike staff and left it run by monkeys. Build your bike yourself or get a professional to do it, else it'll be a deathtrap!
@HarvsPenzance your wrong when we build our bikes in halfords we make sure everything it up to scratch wif the bikes its health and safety weve got to do it.
@ste257 That's not really true. I've worked for Halfords for many years. Most of the full timers employed in the local branches have gone. Mostly staffed by part-time students who haven't been trained, let alone having a Cytech qualification. By the comments made by other employees in HalfordsVoice it's the same nationwide.
Saw one of these Boardman Racing Bikes in Halfords the other day and it looked amazing. It was black ,carbon made and weighed next to nothing ! From what I can remember the most expensive was about £3200 down to approximately £700. I think Mr Boardman has come up with a great product here !!

Getting the new Race 2011 tomorrow, shall definitely be setting it up myself. Halfords could at least employ 1 bike specialist per store
