I can understand Cantonese better, but the Japanese one is much more "smoother." Although I think, in fairness, both are beautiful. I love them equally.
the chinese singer's vocal is just as beautiful as the original but i have to give the nod to the Japanese simply because of the language. I think Japanese is one of the 3 or 4 most beautiful spoken languages in the world.
I love both version~ :D I know Cantonese and speak it so it was easier for me to understand what the song said... :D It's prob easier for me to learn how to sing the Cantonese version as well. But I love both versions~ This is like my favorite song at the moment. :D
Wow! Thanks for sharing! I didn't know there was a cantonese version!!! I prefer the Japanese version but I totally enjoyed the cantonese one too! Is the cantonese version a song by itself? What's the title?
Ayaka Hirahara's version has more presence and feeling, and a better vibrato. Don't be surprised if she does do a Chinese version of this song one day. Ayaka Hirahara has done several songs in Korean and there is one song currently on YouTube which she sings in Chinese.
Lyrics Wise, Both Are Equally Beautiful, But I Must Say Ayaka Hirahara Sings With More Soul Than Linda Chung. BTW The Cantonese Version Of The Song, Is The Download Link The Full Version Or The 1:30 TV OP?

I have to say that the cantonese singer messed up. She wasn't a very good representation of the cantonese language... In my opinion at least. It would be nice if there was a mandarin dub, as that IS the official chinese language.
@jtzy23 Cantonese is Chinese too. And I speak cantonese, it's my mother tongue. It's just that mandarin has alot more culture behind it, more than cantonese. Sort of like comparing English and Welsh.
@magical11 Are you a teacher or student or some sort? Or is that a statement about Mandarin having more culture based on your opinion only? For a language that is much younger and recent/modern, I find it difficult to accept.
@TaiGekTou When people talk abt mandarin, they will lead to China. [ China DEFINITELY had a looooooooonnngg History, culture and LOADS of stuffs behind, you know ...] Btw, Cantonese is NOT a mordern language, so u can try 2 accept it.. HAHA :)
@jtzy23 That is correct, in fact Cantonese is older than Mandarin, and you can consider that Mandarin was not in existent when China reached its pinnacle of civilization. Furthermore, Mandarin began taking shape after the Yuan Dynasty, who were the Mongolians.
I cannot accept your claim that Mandarin has more culture, just because it is the official language today. It is not even the language used in the ancient past of China.
@TaiGekTou ^^''' im not really claiming that Mandarin has more culture. Btw, r u sure Mandarin is NOT a language in the past? Anyway, im really impressed by yr knowledge about the dynasty and stuffs. I definitely HATE memorising all these Qing, Ming , Dynasty (everything) > .>
@jtzy23 Thank you, I don't remember them very well either but they are interesting to me. And also, I'm sorry I was mistaken between your comment and magical11's comment about Mandarin having more culture than other Chinese languages. But yes, I am sure Mandarin did not exist in ancient China, at least not before the Yuan Dynasty.
@magical11 I know :) My mother tongue is Hokkien >.< teehee. But i can only listen, can't really speak Hokkien though... (i think u misunderstand a little abt the earlier reply to you, making u tot that i cant differentiate cantonese and chinese ^^'') Hmm.... Since you said that Cantonese is also chinese, which mean it also has a culture too... ESP in Hong kong. :) *looking forward to yr reply
@jtzy23 Hmmm... Cantonese DOES have culture, it's just that it doesn't have as much. Just because it's older, doesn't mean it's more cultured. Like I said, Welsh and English. I believe Welsh cam into existence earlier than English, but due to political reasons, it never became as widely used, therefore not as "cultured". The imperial courts of China always used either mandarin, or its predessors as the offical language.
@magical11 Not as widely used = not cultured is a flawed logic. Are you aware that the Yue (Cantonese) and Wu dialects were the most dominant languages in ancient China? Mandarin not even exist then. Are you also aware Wu dialect was the language that the then young Japan learned the most from? Also, the language used during the Tang dynasty was considered most similar to Cantonese. It was also that time when Japan modeled Kyoto after the Tang Imperial Palace. Where was Mandarin during all that?
@jtzy23 Yep I am male, and no I am not physically in China though I am Chinese. I am pretty sure you are the same too, since I live in the same country as you. However... @jtzy23 Ah..? I don't know about "special" but... maybe I'm just not social. By the way, I'm curious about something. You say your native language is the Fujian dialect, so why did you make a Japanese/Cantonese comparison here?
@TaiGekTou Ahhhhhhh. 4get IT!! I didnt realise i reveal so much info about myself on my profile=.='' Im goin to freaking hide all my details ( EPS. MY SCHOOL.... Freak -.-|||"
@TaiGekTou Just because a language is similar to cantonese, does not make it cantonese. In acient China, Middle Chinese was used, and although Cantonese retains much of Middle Chinese pronunciation and rules, Middle Chinese is still NOT cantonese. The poetry from Middle Chinese can be regarded as universal, that is, its Chinese culture, and not Mandarin/Cantonese. Mandarin is due to the influence of the Manchus, which came much later, but then Cantonese was a "Peasant" language.
@magical11 I did not imply that ancient poetry belongs to Cantonese culture. All I said was they rhyme better in Cantonese than Mandarin. But fact is, Cantonese IS the Yue dialect, and the Yue dialect IS one of the dominant languages used, even by court officials, before Mandarin came. Resorting to comparing them by "class" is laughable. By your way of thinking, then all 50+ major dialects of China can be considered "peasant" languages, and Mandarin the only ONE "important" language then.
@TaiGekTou As you said, Yue was ONe of the dominant languages, as Mandarin was too. And the imperial courts didn't use cantonese, ever. It's just that Middle Chinese is quite similar to Cantonese, if what modern scholars say is true. And the 50+ major dialects you speak of are usually only spoken in small rural areas, which does infact make them "peasant" languages. Then there's the fact that each dialect is split into sub-dialects. Mandarun and cantonese are the onle 2 unified dialects.
@magical11 And by unified I mean there is actually a standard. But even then, Cantonese is still less developed, used, and taught then Mandarin. Mandarin was proven to be used in the late 17th century, which means it has been in use for over 300 years, beating any vague claims about cantonese being used in imperial courts.
@magical11 Cantonese or the Yue dialect as a whole, is over 1200 years old, and not coincidentally the Tang dynasty existed exactly around that time. That's 4 times the age of Mandarin. And by your logic it still doesn't explain how Mandarin has "more culture", and even more so now considering all those "culture" more than 300 years ago were born without Mandarin in mind.
@TaiGekTou Actually, didn't you and Jitzy begin the whole discussion on age? What I've been trying to say the whole time is that Mandarin is the official language, it has been developed much more, especially over the recent years, and that the wide usage of a language does affect its cultural impacts. And I never really said age mattered, I was just trying to prove Mandarin was used just as long as Cantonese, if not longer. XD
@magical11 "I was just trying to prove Mandarin was used just as long as Cantonese, if not longer."
^And so you got that part wrong. When the Tang Dynasty fell, the people fled South from the capital, which was somewhere in the central North I believe. And this is the reason why most southern Chinese are Cantonese speakers. The later dynasty like the Mongolian Yuan and Manchus for example, changed the language in the north which now becomes Mandarin.
@TaiGekTou Ok. i'll try to explain cantonese and Mandarin. Cantonese was never developed inside the capital, but was formed when Chinese officials were exiled from the courts. Yue developed independently from the official chinese of the courts, and was never used at court. Mandarin came into existence in northern China, and was introduced much later by the Manchus. There is no evidence which is older, but only that Mandarin was an official language, and cantonese retained old styles.
@magical11 If you want evidence, consult a linguists expert. Judging by how you capitalized "M" in Mandarin but not the "C" in Cantonese, and your childish notion that "Mandarin has more culture", it's easy to see that you're simply favouring one over the other. I never thought one language would seem more cultured than another, especially when it comes to the Chinese languages. There are so many of them that they ARE the Chinese culture.
@TaiGekTou By cultured, I mean it has been more developed, as in more poetry, stories, etc. were written in that specific language. And a silly spelling mistake does NOT mean I prefer one language over another. It was just a freaking accident. And third, it is NOT a childish notion. Does welsh have the same amount of poetry, historical importance ans English? Official status has a huge amount to do with the cultural impacts of a language. And finally, I dont prefer either as I speak BOTH.
@magical11 Fine, I'll take it that you made a spelling mistake twice on the same word, and the same letter. And no, historians may not know if Ceasar was gay, but they can tell you what important things happened throughout his life. Important things such as how the exiled court officials of Tang Dynasty brought their language to the South, that is GuangDong.
@TaiGekTou No. Like I said before, the exiled scholars brought Central Chinese to the south, NOT cantonese. Cantonese developed OUTSIDE the capital. It's a rural dialect.
@magical11 Let me put it this way then... They brought the language down South, which then became Cantonese. Mandarin came much later, which was influenced by the Mongols and Manchu. Prior to Mandarin becoming the official language, it was merely a dialect not many would speak. Even now, the various provinces still retain their local dialect, and refuse Mandarin as their "mother tongue". Why? Because that's their tradition, That IS culture.
@TaiGekTou No. Mandarin was already a dialect in the north. It came into definition around the same time Cantonese did. And not only did ALOT of people speak mandarin, it was the one of the few dialects in the north. Due to the flat plains, there wasn't alot of linguistic diversity, so mandarin was spoken by most people in the north, unlike the south, which, due to the mountains and valleys, and had many different dialects. And dialect isnt seperated by province, but by ethnic group.
@magical11 Let me mention, again that Mandarin came into use 700 years ago, at the most. Whereas Cantonese was brought South from the North, as far as 1200 years back. And let me mention... again, that no one language in particular is more important there another, because they ARE the Chinese culture. I personally don't think my left pinky is less important than my right thumb, because as far as they are physically apart from each other, I find them both just as inportant when playing the piano.
@magical11 By saying that one dialect is less important than the other and represents less culture than the other, you basically insulted BOTH the Chinese language AND the Chinese culture. There is no culture, language or dialect that is in any way 'better' than another, and for you to make such claims, merely speaks of your own ignorance. Preferences are subjective claims and do not speak of a culture or language's value. Each is different and should be valued and appreciated on its own.
@TaiGekTou And even linguist experts cannot excavate impossible to find information. Can a historican tell you whether Ceasar was gay or not? No. Some things can't be proven true or false, even when so called specialists point with their know-it-all fingers.
@TaiGekTou Finally, please refrain from calling the opinions of others "childish". It just shows that you cannot proven that you are correct, and have to resort to rude attacks.
@magical11 What is there not childish about calling one language more cultured than another? That is no different than saying "my dad is stronger than your dad".
@TaiGekTou W/E take it how you like. Why do you even care so much? It's undisputed that MANDARIN is MORE important than CANTONESE so stop trying to argue about it. And the official status of MANDARIN just proves it. Cultured or not, Cantonese still cannot beat Mandarin in importance. IT'S a FACT. And I don't hate cantonese whatsoever, it's just a fact.
@magical11 Right... so it's not which is more cultured anymore. Now it's which one has official status? I'll admit I can't argue with that. But I care because I want to prove that Mandarin is NOT the most important, it's not a FACT but an OPINION. I would like you to understand that every single dialect of Chinese is important to its culture, 缺一不可。No one in particlar is more important than another.
@magical11 Still, I'd like to hear how Mandarin being an official language now has anything to do with being more cultured. What I have claimed are studies that came from both Chinese and Western perspectives, if you're just going to reply to my message with "but Mandarin is the official language", then I have nothing much to say.
Ooh, very interesting comparison. It's really cool that the Cantonese dub included a Cantonese dub of the theme song too. I always thought the music of this song (at least, the violin line) sounded clasical Chinese, so it's cool to hear it actually sung in Chinese too. Overall, I like Ayaka Hirahara's voice better, so I guess I'd say I prefer the Japanese. But they're both beautiful~
@DarkCyradis i luv both of them, but i luv Japanese verion more! (same as you) ^^ You watched the original dubbed of this show or you watch Cantonese dubbed? ^^
@jtzy23 Honestly, I haven't watched more than the first ep yet because it's hard to find on youtube. ^^; But I always like to watch things in their original language, so I would watch in Japanese. Have you seen it in JP as well as Cantonese?
@DarkCyradis DAmn Hell sorry for the Super late reply! >.< i watch it in Japanese of course, it's hard to find cantonese version online(needless to say youtube). youtube had tried to take down all anime episodes from youtube due to copyright problem. I encourage you 2 watch at anilikz . com ^^
@rukiayukino I am not good at english...but I think u can guess what I am talking about(hopefully)
the cantonese version is made by TVB(a TV station in HK) TVB bought this cartoon from the company in Janpan which produced this cartoon.TVB changed the lyrics to cantonese and let a hk singer to sung the cantonese version. The singer name Linda Chung 鍾嘉欣(she is a artist of TVB,and she is also a singer now)
therefore, the cantonese version not made by Japan. It's by the TV station in hk.^^

TaiGekTou 1 year ago
@TaiGekTou Actually, didn't you and Jitzy begin the whole discussion on age? What I've been trying to say the whole time is that Mandarin is the official language, it has been developed much more, especially over the recent years, and that the wide usage of a language does affect its cultural impacts. And I never really said age mattered, I was just trying to prove Mandarin was used just as long as Cantonese, if not longer. XD
magical11 1 year ago
@magical11 "I was just trying to prove Mandarin was used just as long as Cantonese, if not longer."
^And so you got that part wrong. When the Tang Dynasty fell, the people fled South from the capital, which was somewhere in the central North I believe. And this is the reason why most southern Chinese are Cantonese speakers. The later dynasty like the Mongolian Yuan and Manchus for example, changed the language in the north which now becomes Mandarin.
TaiGekTou 1 year ago
@TaiGekTou Ok. i'll try to explain cantonese and Mandarin. Cantonese was never developed inside the capital, but was formed when Chinese officials were exiled from the courts. Yue developed independently from the official chinese of the courts, and was never used at court. Mandarin came into existence in northern China, and was introduced much later by the Manchus. There is no evidence which is older, but only that Mandarin was an official language, and cantonese retained old styles.
magical11 1 year ago
@magical11 If you want evidence, consult a linguists expert. Judging by how you capitalized "M" in Mandarin but not the "C" in Cantonese, and your childish notion that "Mandarin has more culture", it's easy to see that you're simply favouring one over the other. I never thought one language would seem more cultured than another, especially when it comes to the Chinese languages. There are so many of them that they ARE the Chinese culture.
TaiGekTou 1 year ago
@TaiGekTou By cultured, I mean it has been more developed, as in more poetry, stories, etc. were written in that specific language. And a silly spelling mistake does NOT mean I prefer one language over another. It was just a freaking accident. And third, it is NOT a childish notion. Does welsh have the same amount of poetry, historical importance ans English? Official status has a huge amount to do with the cultural impacts of a language. And finally, I dont prefer either as I speak BOTH.
magical11 1 year ago
@magical11 Fine, I'll take it that you made a spelling mistake twice on the same word, and the same letter. And no, historians may not know if Ceasar was gay, but they can tell you what important things happened throughout his life. Important things such as how the exiled court officials of Tang Dynasty brought their language to the South, that is GuangDong.
TaiGekTou 1 year ago
@TaiGekTou No. Like I said before, the exiled scholars brought Central Chinese to the south, NOT cantonese. Cantonese developed OUTSIDE the capital. It's a rural dialect.
magical11 1 year ago
@magical11 Let me put it this way then... They brought the language down South, which then became Cantonese. Mandarin came much later, which was influenced by the Mongols and Manchu. Prior to Mandarin becoming the official language, it was merely a dialect not many would speak. Even now, the various provinces still retain their local dialect, and refuse Mandarin as their "mother tongue". Why? Because that's their tradition, That IS culture.
TaiGekTou 1 year ago
@TaiGekTou No. And dialect isnt seperated by province, but by ethnic group.
magical11 1 year ago
@magical11 Let me mention, again that Mandarin came into use 700 years ago, at the most. Whereas Cantonese was brought South from the North, as far as 1200 years back. And let me mention... again, that no one language in particular is more important there another, because they ARE the Chinese culture. I personally don't think my left pinky is less important than my right thumb, because as far as they are physically apart from each other, I find them both just as inportant when playing the piano.
TaiGekTou 1 year ago
@TaiGekTou And I didn't say that the other dialects were uncultured, or unimportant, but that they weren't AS important, or as developed upon.
magical11 1 year ago
@magical11 By saying that one dialect is less important than the other and represents less culture than the other, you basically insulted BOTH the Chinese language AND the Chinese culture. There is no culture, language or dialect that is in any way 'better' than another, and for you to make such claims, merely speaks of your own ignorance. Preferences are subjective claims and do not speak of a culture or language's value. Each is different and should be valued and appreciated on its own.
SonnyGoten89 1 year ago
@TaiGekTou And even linguist experts cannot excavate impossible to find information. Can a historican tell you whether Ceasar was gay or not? No. Some things can't be proven true or false, even when so called specialists point with their know-it-all fingers.
magical11 1 year ago
@TaiGekTou Finally, please refrain from calling the opinions of others "childish". It just shows that you cannot proven that you are correct, and have to resort to rude attacks.
magical11 1 year ago
@magical11 What is there not childish about calling one language more cultured than another? That is no different than saying "my dad is stronger than your dad".
TaiGekTou 1 year ago
@TaiGekTou W/E take it how you like. Why do you even care so much? It's undisputed that MANDARIN is MORE important than CANTONESE so stop trying to argue about it. And the official status of MANDARIN just proves it. Cultured or not, Cantonese still cannot beat Mandarin in importance. IT'S a FACT. And I don't hate cantonese whatsoever, it's just a fact.
magical11 1 year ago
@magical11 Right... so it's not which is more cultured anymore. Now it's which one has official status? I'll admit I can't argue with that. But I care because I want to prove that Mandarin is NOT the most important, it's not a FACT but an OPINION. I would like you to understand that every single dialect of Chinese is important to its culture, 缺一不可。No one in particlar is more important than another.
TaiGekTou 1 year ago
@magical11 Still, I'd like to hear how Mandarin being an official language now has anything to do with being more cultured. What I have claimed are studies that came from both Chinese and Western perspectives, if you're just going to reply to my message with "but Mandarin is the official language", then I have nothing much to say.

when on japanese, it sounded sad and mushy and it suddenly became a bit upbeat and lively on the cantonese part XD
i dunno. imo XD

But they're both beautiful~

rukiayukino 1 year ago 2
@rukiayukino I am not good at english...but I think u can guess what I am talking about(hopefully)
the cantonese version is made by TVB(a TV station in HK) TVB bought this cartoon from the company in Janpan which produced this cartoon.TVB changed the lyrics to cantonese and let a hk singer to sung the cantonese version. The singer name Linda Chung 鍾嘉欣(she is a artist of TVB,and she is also a singer now)
therefore, the cantonese version not made by Japan. It's by the TV station in hk.^^
