  • Dude awesome work. Great story telling I can see why you got in.

  • Dusty I saw your short film a long time ago and I decided to apply with a short film of my own, so here's mine, it would be great if you could check it out: THE TEST - Written and Directed by José Bustos. Thank you very much and Happy New Year.

  • To all the people who say they didn't like this well you're opinion doesn't matter, only NYU's opinion matters.

  • @mik3ygr4y lol thank you for insulting my 17-year-old high school work. i won't defend my film since i made it when i was very inexperienced, but i will defend the last comment - no, i did not pay my way into tisch, i worked hard like everyone else who applied.

  • @mik3ygr4y Clearly, someone is bitter about not getting into Tisch. After watching your film I find it hard to believe that you have a place in criticizing someone else's work. This film was accepted for a reason, get over it and maybe apply some of that energy into improving your own work.

  • @mik3ygr4y Yet, she's in a prestigious film school... and you're not.

  • The Tischs are murdering Nazis - 100's of victims. TRUTH!

  • Is that France Gall I hear? (:

    Haha wonderful film, truly.

  • plot synopsis should be summary..it's not a synopsis. LOL (:

  • Really like the pacing in this video. I hear back from NYU Tisch next friday (April 1st), hopefully I'll get in. Check out the film I submitted! It's on my Youtube channel.

  • the directing was, in my opinion, excellent and the music when the porn star came out was.....decent. but the acting really could have been just a little better...it was almost an amazing video......almost

  • I love this film. Definetly this best NYU app. check out my application for fall 2011 and tell me what you think.

  • nothing special... i dont even need to listen to the audio to come to that conclusion

  • Where's the drama? Where's the suspense?! Where's the thrill? My friend, and I hate to say this, but you are a royal nuclear numbskull. . . . .i'm sorry

  • Interesting film. Congratulations on getting into Tisch! I'm planning on pursuing a graduate degree there.

  • do i sense some david lynch influence?

  • Awesome! Loved your choice of music. Very effective! Loved the editing as well and the story and turn of events. Everything basically. Good Job!

  • Im applying for fall 2011... I just uploaded my film, check it out people, feedback is welcome..

  • @rikicarneiro I'm applying for fall 2011 too! feedback? :)

  • Nice choice of France Gal.

  • would you mind telling me what kind of camera and editing program you are using to make this movie?

    Thank you very much.

  • what type of camera and editing software did you use to edit this/what type do you recommend?

Thank you very much, I much admire your vision and talent.

  • @keithbooss I used a JVC Everio GZ-HD7

  • @dustylacson are u an actor or do u want to be a director? how do i start if i want to be an actress and get into tisch? I've never done anything related to acting before but i'm going to take a class at my college and it's not a community college (it's 2nd in the world)

  • I didnt like it.

  • ~* why r u here all arone~*

  • very nice. could be improved but i'm sure you'll learn that and more at tisch. love to see more make it to youtube

  • @thmsmorgan cumulative was 3.71 when i applied, and when i got in it had dropped to 3.63 (senioritis ha). i only took the SAT 1 and i got an 1870

  • wow

    you are very talented!

  • why don't you go downtown on me Jose?

  • wouldn't have been so much better if the acting actually contributed to the story rather than desecrating it!

  • dude this was incredible.

  • Out of all NYU admissions videos on YouTube this ones the best.

  • Great film. Im planning on applying there for fall of 2011, any suggestions? Do you have to have an excellent GPA? i hve so many questons.

  • Are you an undergraduate or graduate student at NYU?

  • awesome! my brother goes to NYU :)

    Five stars for the video

  • great job, i'm going to apply to nyu next year and was wondering if u had any tips

  • the thing about getting into a film school is that you have to be good, know stuff, but you cant be perfect. if they were perfect, then going to college for film would be a waste. they still have to teach you stuff

  • did u get the copyright for the music?

or NYU and the festival don't care about it?

    great film.

  • @thomasnguys no i didn't, it was just an application film so copyright doesn't matter. as for the Shanghai Film Festival, i re-edited it down to 7 minutes and composed original music in order for it to be submitted. This is the original, 10-minute NYU cut. thank you!

  • So, did you get in to Tisch? Seems like you should. What all did you have to go through? I would like to know what your application process was like so I could see if I have a chance in hell at getting in there. I would be a transfer student, but regardless, what were your test scores and GPA and credentials like if you don't mind me asking? I don't have any other templates to go by.

  • @FuckItSnoopy check your inbox

  • @dustylacson I would like to know as well if you don't mind! I would love to be a part of this!

  • @dustylacson could you sned me the same info I would greatly appreciate it

  • @dustylacson send*

  • @dustylacson would you mind forwarding me what you sent FuckItSnoopy? I'm only a sophomoric & I want to know what to expect in the future. If you have the time, thanks! (:

  • @FuckItSnoopy Hey, Do you mind sending me a copy of what he sent to you?

  • did you film this in china?

  • @mrpaek yep

  • great job!

wish i had the tools to make something like this for my portfolio.

  • @Annabuhnahnuh thanks! you know, there are alternative forms of creative work you can submit other than a film - photographs, a screenplay, etc. give it a shot

  • you're very welcome!

    oh i know! and i am :)

  • So how did you get all those dark scenes to work out? Did you use some form of lighting?

  • @calamityrachel natural lighting, fortunately! haha

  • Wow, my camera never picks up dark areas well. I guess it was just cause of the streetlights?

  • Yeah, the acting did have its bad moments (I love the Girl though, her styling was great). The sound in the beginning was horrible and it sucked how there was no sound transitions, the cutaways just sounded bad, but as the film progressed, it got better. The cinematography was also kind of nauseating in the beginning, as if you ignored basic rules of camera work (rule of thirds, head room, etc). But when he's in the house, there are really interesting cool shots. I loved them!

  • ya the first scene was one of the last scenes we filmed. it was extremely cold outside and we just wanted to get it done as quickly as possible.

  • @dustylacson What was your GPA? I want to transfer into Tisch. Any tips?

  • @nekkedturtle check your inbox

  • Wow this is really good ha you have a gift! i really wanna go to nyu but for journalism. what was ur gpa when u applied for nyu?

  • oh yeah, what kind of camera did you use?

  • JVC Everio GZ-HD7

  • wow dude, congrats on getting into Tisch. although this movie isn't my kind of film, it was still great and very entertaining. How is Tisch?

  • it's pretty awesome! i think they really teach you things on a subconscious level because i find myself wanting to do such different things than i had originally intended to do in terms of filmmaking.

  • good movie.

    the acting sucks, though.

  • gee, i sure hope my actors never look at that.

  • What did u use for the soundtrack between 6:00 and 7:30? And if u made it how did u do that? I really like the sound track.

  • 'Digeridoo' by Aphex Twin

many of the songs in this film are by Aphex Twin

  • The other song is Gwely Mernans by Aphex Twin

  • the acting and the dialogue at the beginning makes me cringe because it's so bad, but then it gets better so props for that! "ROB A HOUSE?!!??!?"

  • fun nice movie man

  • Congrats on getting into Tisch! How is it?! it's my first choice :P

  • it's pretty great!

  • heeey duude, wow congrats on thiss its really good, i loved the opening its really captivating, and brilliant on the fact u got into tisch!, i'd love to get into either tisch or the new york film academy, im aplying to both, but thats not till another year im still at college in london :( haha. still awesome man take care xxx

  • ok .. i love the blond chic.shes fierce..heh

  • ahhh this is so good

    i miss you guys :(

  • dustylacson, your actor, David Borgonjon, was very outstanding. Applause to you and him! The last scene was creepy. My heart jumped a bit.

  • that was really good man. can you check out my portfolio film and tell me what you think?

  • Did you apply to tisch as a transfer or from high school?

  • i applied when i was a senior in high school

  • excellent job! I'm glad you got into tisch because that was just awesome and perfectly done.

I'm hoping to transfer to tisch next fall

  • ahahahahahahaaaa yeah lol

  • usually they drop something when they get surprised by a dead body but she covered her mouth i noticed that. i made my friend watch lollolhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • your sister is going to KILL you, just like she did david in this film!!! haha

  • really? how do you know that im not going to kill her before she kills me haha

  • because,

the moment you even try to get close to her, and catch a whiff of her body odor - you will die.

  • This is great.

  • THAT WAS AMAZING! I loved the song at the end too :)

You're so lucky to have gotten into Tisch, and i hope you make heaps of other great films :)

I'm in year 11 in high school, my main focus is screenwriting and have the same questions as everyone else watching this lol

Congrats again on getting in :)

  • thank you! if you have any questions send me a message and i'll send you one right back!

  • this is great! I'm thinking about applying to tisch as well. I've only made cruder films with my cheap, 300 dollar camcorder, but I've written many screenplays. What camera did you use?

    What camera would you recommend?

  • I used a JVC Everio GZ-HD7.. the quality of my original footage is so much nicer than this, but i compressed it so many times that it doesn't look as clear. but, i guess, an HD video camera is good.

any camera above $2000 is legit, according to tisch hahaha. but, i say, for a portfolio film? film quality is important but not crucial. i guess, just get something that can record in HD. make sure your technique and storyline are good

  • I have the same question as tkimesmvp...I have loads of great ideas, and I have a pretty good camera. I make movies...but what else are colleges looking for? I'm a senior in high school. I've never been in film class, or art class for the matter. I find I'm best outside of a restricted box.

  • inbox!

  • I really enjoyed this. I really really want to get into NYU tisch but I'm not sure If I really have necessary experiences. I mostly just observe everything from movies/shows and try to learn from it. My point is, congrats you're really lucky =]

  • WOW congrats on your acceptance and this is great work

I was wondering what are some good things to put on your resume for your portfolio?

Also did you have any internship experience or film making classes before making this film?

  • i'll send you a private message

  • There was one BIG problem with the film... IT WAS TOO GOOD!

  • agreed!

  • *claps* that was good :)

  • this is obnoxiously good

    I hate you.

    <3

  • hahaha, thank you! :D

  • what was the name of the last song? p.s. congratulations !

  • "J'attendrai" by Dalida.. thank you!

  • Congratulations on getting in! Can't wait to see the films you make while at NYU. You should post them on YouTube too!

  • Thank you!

  • congratz on getting in. i didn't :(

  • I don't get how you got waitlisted. The directing was done amazingly. (Maybe it's because of the songs at 2:55 and 9:00) That was a little off... Anyway, I hope to see you next year!

  • Thanks! The music was symbolic, actually. The first song was France Gall's Poupee de Cire, Poupee de Son, which means "Doll of wax, doll of sawdust." The song is essentially Serge Gainsbourg's creation, and France Gall was his hand-puppet. So it represented how the girl was controlling him. And I was kind of trying to get a '60s exploitation vibe with the moped, the snake ring, and the heels in that scene. And the last song, also in French, was by Dalida, who committed suicide.

  • dustylacson, did you get in?

  • Waitlisted :(

  • I received an email today. ACCEPTED! :D

  • lol, gradually progressed. eh, kept my attention for 10 minutes.

oh? and those shoes were too big for that blonde.

  • nooooooooooooo i wanted to and tried with rosanna but u were like noooooooooooooooooo wait

  • you didn't want to watch it???? you're so mean!!!

  • well...................... i didnt want to see my sisters face too much because it gives me the creeps.

  • LOL!! burrn... i agree with you hahahahaha

  • You know what sophia? You can forget about us being friends from now on okay. Jeez.

  • oh i remember julia forced us to watch it hahaha good memories

  • haha shut up you could've left if you wanted to but you didn't did yooooooooouuuuuuuu???

    yeah! >:)

  • Good job. Nice sound for a student film, though I might have used different music. Anyway, the weird girl was his schizophrenia? That was good. What camera did you use?

  • I'm pretty sure it was the JVC Everio GZ-HD7 or some version based on that model... i borrowed it from my school... the annoying thing is that the quality of the original footage is actually much higher than this, even though it looks pretty vivid already. Once the files are rendered in Final Cut Pro the quality degrades and details are lost. I think it's because I used an older version of Final Cut Pro.

  • you probably didnt render it right. change your sequence settings to fit the size of the video.

  • Well done! I really liked it.

I am from Beijing and I'm in Tisch now.

Good luck with your application. Hope to hear from you~

  • well done! tell me if you get in!!

best of luck to you! you deserve it

  • Thanks!! I really hope to..

  • Ooh wow this is one of the best short films I have ever seen! :D hehehe <3

  • Ehehe why thank you ;)

  • So is the blondy girl fake? because it seems like at the very last he was the one who killed himself

  • Hehe yeah she's a physical manifestation of his "subconscious" or alter-ego...

  • So, yeah, he killed himself. Lol

  • Oh I got it, its an awesome video btw :)

  • Thank you!

  • This is one of the best films I've seen yet, it's very professional. What type of camera did you use?

  • Thanks! It was a JVC Everio model... JVC Everio GZ-HD7 to be specific, I'm pretty sure.

  • I like the cinematography, where did you film it?

  • I filmed it around several various locations in Beijing... Most of the filming took place in the city but a couple of scenes were filmed near the countryside..
