Can a violin produce a sound like that? What a tone, what a tone! It is liquid gold, full of warmth....and those starting notes....they sound so beautiful without any vibrato.
Bravo! What a great idea to put on a recording like that. Just by looking at the phonograph whilst listening makes it feel different. Kreisler's playing is divine.
reflects is like scattering packed light in sound wawes. All instruments get clearer in time when the material crystalizes and hardens between the woodrings.
The special thing whith this recording is that the vilolinist has ONE chans to do it ... And I think that gave us this extreme quality. Today you always can do it again...
8:05 When Kreisler starts to play the 2:nd violin and the orchestra the first ... Wonderful.
only two things appeared in my mind when listen to this recording. 1: the golden era already pass and will never return. 2: almost all the modern recordings of this concerto can be thrown away.
I finally noticed that the Mendelssohn violin concerto 78rpm set I have, which is on just 3 records, is Kreisler's later recording. Its splits are different from this one's, even the first one being earlier at a better spot.
This is soo cool; I didn't know that there were any complete recordings of Kreisler performing the mendelssohn concerto on youtube. Thank you for posting.
You sharp eared listeners. :-) Yes, a while back I cleaned and lubricated the motor which caused the speed to increase from 78.26 to almost 80 rpm. Since corrected.
It is a Victor orthophonic from 1927. The only scientifically designed acoustic phonograph. These records were among the first that were electrically recorded and the sound is not very good. For a better example check my posting of the Ernani aria by Ponselle.
Oh, I have both London & Berlin Version on 78s, but I agree with you. Kreisler did much more better in 1926. By the Way, Do you have that 1926 Beethoven Violin Concerto Recording, too? I love his arrangement on the Third Movement...!^^

It's a little sharp. Is the record player calibrated?

Remarkable sound quality and, as merrihew says, this is Kreisler in his prime. The sweetest violinist violinist in the world

You have something very valuable in your possession.

I wish we had digital recording/CD since 1900. We would enjoy great music such as
Kreisler, Toscanini with NBC Symphony etc.

THIS VICTROLA IS ELECTRIC?

Only the turntable motor is electric. The reproduction is acoustic through a large horn.

The other reproducer is from an HMV machine but the American version sounds better.

I notice you have a couple of reproducers. Are they for different kinds of music? Or just a spare?

Unfortunately, the earlier Beethoven concerto is not very well recorded - especially the first side - but it is my favorite version.
