Wow, that just sums up the Bush administration's view on politics.
I guess in a way he's right, even though I can't help thinking; a policy of negotiating, instead of plowing through countries, could just be the way to stop people wanting to blow up your own country, Mr. Bolton.
How so? Do you know how many terrorists we've killed? The United States always has to lead the world, everyone else is useless except the Polish, Italians, Australians, and British)
No. Tell me. How many have you killed? And how many have you supported, and with how much? The ones you actually manage to take out were usually on your own paylist, so taking care of your own problems isn't the same as running the world. For that, you actually have to win wars.
Negotiations in situation of equilibrium will never give any results (remember Hitler) ,only when you have an advantage you could use tactics of negotiation .Check history books.
Sure, and I guess that's exactly what that Iraqi kid is thinking when joining a guerilla after seeing his innocent father get abducted by marines.

Israelis are now scared more of Bush than Iran.

John Bolton is correct: Bush's legacy WILL be the 9/11 response. The time a president used the emotions of the American people to launch his own profiteering war on his daddy's enemy. It's like the American people were lost and dismayed teenagers and Bush was a dirty pimp who preyed on those feelings to get the teens fucked for money.
...& in the process, the U.S. has lost all credibility w/in the international community by "spreading democracy" through mass violence (e.g., the Shock & Awe bombing campaign in Baghdad, the massacre @ Haditha, the torture @ Abu Ghraib & Bagram, the list is enormous). As far as this American is concerned, Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Bremer, and Bolton are terrorist war criminals. And the implementation of their neocon agenda has been the biggest disaster in U.S. foreign policy history.
...Bush's decision to appoint Bolton was at least not AS disastrous as his decision to invade Iraq, a country that had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11 whatsoever. Bolton's claim that there have been "mixed results in some instances" is appalling. Mixed results? We are losing THOUSANDS of dollars every SECOND we continue to occupy this country. >4000 American soldiers have died and >29,000 have been wounded...
John Bolton...same guy who in 1994 said "There is no United Nations," only "an international community that occasionally can be led by the only real power left in the world, and that's the United States, when it suits our interests." ...& thats who Bush appointed as our ambassador to the UN. Classic. He even had to resort to using his "constitutional authority" to override the senate in this landmark decision. (Alas, its not clear whether Bush can spell the word "constitutional.")
Bringing the our heroic fighting men and women home now will allow the homophobic, mysogynistic, totalitarian, theocratic, fascist Iranian regime to take control of Iraq. Is that your idea of putting a stop to "war crimes?" BTW, the Iranian police state won't look too kindly upon your atheism.
Yeah, our illegal invasion of Iraq was the biggest gift we gave theocratic Iran since we toppled their secular democracy. We need to get out of there and let them figure it out. Sooner or later people will come to their senses because of the proliferation of technology and information, and abandon theism.
There is an Atheist alliance in Iran, but as you pointed out, they are pretty oppressed. It's aitte, people are becoming more rational.
Neo-coning Iran will only strengthen the theocracy.
The invasion of Iraq was legal. The US Congress authorized it and has funded our armed forces' administration of Iraq ever since. Iran has never had a democracy, secular or otherwise. Iran has always had either a dictatorship as under the Shah or the current Fascists or was run by foreigners, most recently the British and the Russians. The US will not abandon the oil rich Persian Gulf. "Letting them figure it out" means economic suicide for the West and that ain't gonna happen
Art. 6 of the Constitution makes all treaties entered into by the U.S. the binding law of the land. The U.S. signed the U.N. Charter which forbids war as a method of dispute resolution. Congressional approval did not make it legal and that approval was itself illegal as it violated the U.N. Charter. The U.N. did NOT authorize the invasion - only after it was done did they authorize a temporary occupation to clean up the mess. Americans should try mixing some facts with their propaganda.
If Art. 6 says the UN Charter is the binding law of the land, then all wars are illegal. Why then do you call the Iraq War an illegal war? Why only the Iraq War? The genocidal Muslim financed war in Darfur against non Muslims is not called illegal. The Russian massacre of the Muslim Chechens is not called illegal. Why not?
electango - you don't know much about law or history. First history - Iran had a democracy in the early 1950s - Mossadegh was a duly elected secular modernist (the kind of guy we wish was there now). The U.S. ousted him in a covert operation engineered by Kermit Roosevelt because he was nationalizing the oil industry. Then the U.S. installed the Shah who let foreign oil companies stay provided he was personally enriched. That paved the way for the Islamic revolution 25 years later.
Iran had thousands of years of brutal dictatorship. There was an election when the British were ousted, but there was no national tradition upon which to build a democratic future. However there was a tradition of theocracy. The Iranian people seem very comfortable with clerical rule even though the clerics are every bit as despotic as the Shah was and even though they are running the economy into the ground. They are much much more militarily aggressive than the Shah ever was.
The Shah was a vicious egomaniacal despot. No question. He maintained a police state which had death squads to squash dissent. But the Clerics ruling Iran today employ similar tactics. Different from the Shah, however, the Clerics are incapable of getting along with their Iran's neighbors. They incite conflict with Iraq, Lebanon, and Gulf Nations. There are wars all over the Middle East and Africa with Iranian fingerprints on them. Compared to Khomeini, the Shah was a peacenik.
They can't get along with countries supported by the west for poltical reasons. Greatly because the west has been an enemy since they got rid of the brutal shah. I disagree that the Shah was a peacenik compared to khomeini. Khomeini killed people that were allied with the shah's regime in the few years after the shah was overthrown and the communist supporters, but the Shah turned on all Iranians and had death squads in all his decades of rule.
Khomeini sent brainwashed teenaged boys running across Iraqi mine fields acting as human mine sweepers. He incited rebellion among Iraqi Shiites to break off southern Iraq from Saddam and then lost millions of soldiers incompetently fighting Saddam. Khomeini's successors are a disaster for Iran still leading Iran to total destruction. When they are through with Iran, the Iranians will beg for the Shah to return. Iran will soon be piles of rubble and untreated sewage. God Bless America!
ummm the shah's times were only good for the Shah himself because he allowed the big oil companies in. The economy was terrible for everyone else. The Iran-Iraq war had US weapons supplied for Iraq against Iran, both sides lost thousands as a result. Every successor to Khomeini is not the same because some are political and others aren't. If america elects another bushy in the white house they will be wishing that they had a khomeini or maybe a shah.
The current Iran regime is expansionist and confrontational. Such a regime so close to world oil supplies ultimately won't be allowed. The industrial economies which depend upon oil can't do business with constant saber rattling and with the militarily aggressive activities of the current Iranian government. I'm looking forward to seeing those turban wearing fascists disappear from the world scene and I'm sure the Iranian people will be much better off when that happens as well. Don't you?
"The current Iran regime is expansionist and confrontational."
It's not threatening the confrontation. The western countries are. They have the right to civilian power and they are under the NPT unlike some western allies. Western intelligence knows they aren't making a nuclear bomb, it's saber rattling on side of western governments that agressively pursue more oil and natural resources. It's Iranian land, oil and sovereignty. The US and the others making the threats are the agressors.
Both sides are highly militarily aggressive. But Iran's threats to "wipe Israel off the map" imply use of nuclear weaponry. Noone else has so openly threatened nuclear war. As to whether Iran is working to go nuclear, noone outside Iran can say. Much saber rattling by Iran and the fascination with Armaggeddon the Iranian leadership has makes the thought of Iranians possessing nuclear weapons is intolerable to most rational observers. Will Iran compromise or self destruct?
The wipe off the map quote was misinterpreted and later admitted by the newspaper. Iran's enemies have nuclear weapons and have recently threatened destruction more times than Iran has with that one misinterpreted quote.
Several Iranian politicians have made similar comments to "wiping Israel off the map," including Rafsanjani. You are either unaware of the true vicious, murderous nature of the gangsters running Iran or are willingly defending them. Just because they wear religious garb doesn't mean they aren't gangsters. And they are extremely dangerous gangsters. Thank God the American government is thanklessly working to overthrow them, because they are a threat to all of us.
electango - Iran is not expansionist - in fact they haven't attacked anybody since the 1700s. Here is a basic, simple truth. WE have troops in the countries that border Iran - not the other way around. WE are the expansionsist power and Iran is now in our sights now because we want to control their oil too.
" I don't think an American president should conduct a foreign policy based on American public opinion polls, let alone polls in the rest of the world." LOOOOL. Its another way of saying we don't give a sh*t what the American people say! Or what the world thinks. Loooool
Wow, I respected the questions until you decided to say that I would be sorry. Thought I was actually going to get some intelligent discussion, how silly of me.
I don't see the USA coming to an end, don't mistake what I say as anti US because I am not. I have friends in the US who, like me, are just people trying to get through life. But the life of US as a world economic and military power is on the decline and soon emerging economies like China and India will have greater influence on economic markets. It is the natural process of any superpower to eventually decline in influence, just like the english, spanish and others before it.
It speaks volumes of the arrogance of some of you using terms like camel jockey. Middle eastern culture was is existence while many western cultures were still clubbing their women over the head and dragging them into caves. And before you say anything, I am of proud Irish lineage. One can only hope that men like John Bolton disappear with Bush and his other warmongering buddies. The US government needs to learn that it's time as the worlds superpower is coming to an end. What a relief.
"An American president shouldn't conduct policy based on American public opinion polls". Damn right Bolton, an American president isn't chosen by the public, he's chosen by corporations so why should he care about his minions? Far right Nazi, you should be hung for your warcrimes together with that Nazi in the whitehouse. Where are the Neuremberg trials?

Bush remembered for his strong leadership after 9/11?? Bush's leadership after 9/11 has got the US in a death spiral of debt and along with the a loss of personal freedoms never before seen. He has put us basically in a police state with all the fear mongering rhetoric he's spewed. God I hate you rah rah america types out here like electrode.

Bolton tells it like it is and Communists and Terrorists hate him for it. Bolton should be the next U.S. Secretary of State. If he had been running things, the U.S. already would have won the War on Terror. God Bless America and God Bless our heroic fighting men and women.
There is nothing hip or popular or sheep-like about supporting or defending John Bolton. Sorry that you must call people who don't think like yourself sheep, especially since you apparently can't think for yourself.
Now I know exactly why we live in a corporation. The bosses are tapping into finest and craftiest brains to further the one world government agenda. They'll soon choke on the powers they desire.

How bigoted and xenophobic of you.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Bolton tells it like it is and Communists and Terrorists hate him for it. Bolton should be the next U.S. Secretary of State. If he had been running things, the U.S. already would have won the War on Terror. God Bless America and God Bless our heroic fighting men and women.

There is nothing hip or popular or sheep-like about supporting or defending John Bolton. Sorry that you must call people who don't think like yourself sheep, especially since you apparently can't think for yourself.

add all these points together, and you get the failed, dangerous and terrifying policy of neoconservatism

Now I know exactly why we live in a corporation. The bosses are tapping into finest and craftiest brains to further the one world government agenda. They'll soon choke on the powers they desire.

John Bolton is a neocon war criminal, a liar, a traitor and in my opinion should be buried in deep a hole somewhere.

Bolton is not dumb, he's just obedient.
He's handsomely rewarded for such obedience.
He knows he's not working for America's best interest.
No one who wants to be in top-tier politics can be.
He's a sycophant.
He's a worker bee for much greater powers.

"Mixed results" LOL Try again, John. The Bush administration will be judged an utter catastrophe that we'll be lucky to recover from.
