@Lhein33 I know what you mean.. but people say it not in offense, just to better defy or explain. I mean, If I tell you a story about a fish.. your most logical question would be to ask, "what kind of fish?" besides.. we don't live in those times anymore (metaphorically we live in worse), you can't just say, it is what it is.. and expect people to believe that as an explanation. /=)
Orlando Bloom's character is infuriating. He sacrificed so many of his own people just to get it on with the unfaithful wife of the general of the army they just made peace with after long battles. That is mad dishonorable and he should have been killed by his own people. How can that prince show his face in front of the people that fight for his father's kingdom? lmao. Note to self: Calm down its just a movie hahaha.
@519waterloo You have to thank Aphrodite for that mess.. even though she wasn't even in the movie, which is a shame really. The director wanted to make it more (reality-based) realistic.. hence-forth taking out the Gods, Clytemnestra (Agamemnon's wife), Cassandra/Alexandra. There by shifting major players that cause this great fiasco.. however, I still liked it. They portrayed Achilles perfectly (apart from him being bi taken out).. which I really liked regardless of who played him.
@519waterloo What I meant to say was.. I didn't really mind if they made him bi-sexual as they ought to have. I just didn't want him portrayed as they did him in Helen of Troy.. god that was horrible. He wasn't a battle-obsessed Gorilla.. he was an arrogant, selfish, prideful and yet skillful warrior. In his own right.. which made him great ^_^ (tolerable for some). As far as Brad Pitt goes.. he was good, had the perfect arrogance, skills and built for the character too.
Brad Pitt ♥♥♥♥ he is... omg to be the woman at his side would be the greatest luck for life i can imagine ... for only 1 year with him i would would sacrifice the rest of my life - no thats not true only one month would be enough ♥♥♥
one mans love destroy the hole kingdom... stupid ... heroes fight n die for their home... heroes fight n die for their glories..thats why i love achilles n hector...
I am greek Troy was a glorified movie about the trojans. it was all bullshit. The trojans never came out with a army to fight the greeks. The only time they left there walls were on little night raids against the greeks. The rest of the time they hid behind there walls and just rained arrows. Before u guys start arguing with me ive read lots of books about this war and i looked up a lot The trojans never did shit outside there walls army to army. Its just proof in the books
This movie was good on it's own...but I have a peeve where it needs to follow at least close to the story it's based on...that's why i dont think this movie was very good. Like i said, just a peeve.
@evaberlin Hmm, well, I think that the ancient Greeks regarded romantic love in a similar way to how many Arabs regard it, women are for child bearing and boys/men are for love, (blech!). Greek shield brothers were often lovers as they figured that a lover would fight harder to protect themselves/each other than if their was a weaker connection. Cheers.
@CalumGilhooly I don't think that ancient Greeks didn't like making love to women and had them only for breeding.
Also, we don't know the ethics of the Mycaenean era or of Homer's period; in the Iliad/Odyssey there is not reference to homosexual love. That happens from the classical era and forth.
And for Achilles, read Iliad, book 9, verses 663-668. Achilles and Patroclus take two women and sleep with them.
Lastly, whoever uses the word homo/bi etc for ancient Greeks is ignorant.
@Lhein33, OK perhaps I went a bit far there but the attitude of many people in the Arabic world is as I described it so perhaps I should have asked IF it was likely to be the same attitude. The Greek hoplites certainly went into battle with their shield brother/lover. The samurai of Japan had a similar ethos, especially when they were on a long campaign, far from home and their wives. Young males soldiers were a replacement. Not making a judgement, just saying.
@CalumGilhooly And I don't make a judgement, we talk historically, not morally. The homosexual relationships in Greece was 90% between a man and a teenager (social status: MAN/CITIZEN and NO-MAN/CITIZEN), not between two adults. If there was such a relationship, the man who would have the passive role would have a lower social status.
So, what you say about hoplites is quite wrong. The Sacred Band had this characteristic, but not all phalanxes.
@Lhein33 using "homo/bi" as a description is not arrogant, it's just a term better clarify the situation being explained. But, as far as sleeping for your respect in the "status" quot.. I don't think that's true, but, it's not impossible. Although, hahahah.. you have to admit.. those were some fucked times.
@LoyalNODZealot The terms homo/bi are creations of the modern mentality. They presuppose the modern concept of sexuality: every human beings develops a sexual orientation; this orientation is towards the opposite sex, the same sex or both.
Such concept was absent in the ancient greek and roman world. That's what I said.
it would be great if hector didnt die, or he die and become the source of the trojans wisdom and faith to protect their freedom from invaders...i like hector...he is the hero in this movie for me, but a little underexposed because of achilles..
@Cristalstar3 Pitt's role was the most unique. No one was that opposite to the king these days. And he really existed. The thing is that he was so great and and nobody could kill him, so everyone thought he has a god's protection, and then the myth came. Achilles did not die because of the arrow in his leg but from the poison the arrow contained. How could someone like him die so simply? And that's why the myth states it as the only vulnerable part of his body. He really mattered.
The ting i hate about this filmis that Menalaus dies.. He never died in the story.. He got helen back and sailed back to Greece. Also the trojans hid behind there walls the whole time. But it was still a great film the ending made me cry :(
@Psycho3418 No, the heroic deaths make the heroes bigger. If Achilles never went there, nobody would remember him. Back then what mattered was to be remembered after you have died.
@morral1 If Achllies is your hero you should be happy he died. He was probably your hero because he was awesome in fights and if hes awesome in fights you should be happy he died in glory rather than of age.
@DamonArizona ya but Achillies went to the fight completely for glory and nothing else. He was completely aware that he was going to die during it and new it would be fate. So now it shows that he made a trade of Glory for life.

I would rather like to know that I was killed because my king (president) felt in love with some1 than to know I was killed because he wanted more economic power/military power and so on.
The only reason it came to that was because Agamemnon was a whiny pompous ass who had to have the woman who left him for another man and in doing so cost the lives of thousands of his men. I suppose starting a war that will be remembered until history no longer exists was worth the trouble. Not to mention Paris still had Helena(until he died that is) like Brad Pitt says in the movie" Everyone dies, whether today or fifty years from now."
@SpartanT48 Errr... no. Helen was wife of Menelaus not Agamemnon. Menelaus just asked help from Agamemnon to take vengeance. And it's not like he was a whiny pompous, people these days lived just to be remembered for years and years. So being remembered for losing his wife from Paris wouldn't be the best thing would it :p ? Anyway, the Trojan war was propably fought for economical reasons and not for Helen, that's just Homer's imagination so neither Iliad nor Odysey are historically accurate.
I think the music at the end is called colonna sonora (and yeah it is great). The video by orlibloompie which is also called troy trailer has the music.Great vid.

This is a brilliant trailer. It's what made me want to see the film (when I was too young to see it).
