  • it's a pity that LCpl Glenton didn't find his moral principles after his tour in Kandahar air base. Instead he waited a year and another posting to a unit that would go back before he declared his conscientious objection. He then went AWOL instead of giving his notice to terminate employment with the army. After 2 years AWOL in Australia he then returned as a conscientious objector and 'hero'. Retrospective justification much?

  • Gordon Brown, refusing to withdraw the troops from this illegal war, status running in the elections

Joe Glenton, realising the war is illegal, refused to return to it

status 9 months in military service

    IS THIS DEMOCRACY?

    FREE GLENTON JAIL THE WARMONGERS!

  • 9/11 and 7/7 were inside jobs - iraq and afghan wars are wars for profit, power and control

  • free Glenton a true British hero

he deserves a Pride Of Britain award!

  • Just one more comment, sorry. Just read in another web article that Joe's defence claim he's suffering from Post Traumatic Stress. Ridiculous that he's not on bail and being held in army detention if that's the case.

Also, he joined up in 2004. We'd began the illegal Iraq war a year before.

Too late now but that alone should have made him decide not to join up?

  • Ever noticed the more Britain bangs the war drum the more unemployment rises? An army major said people join to escape the hum drum of office jobs the reality is the dissapearing options for people in this country. Just like the USA who earn their wealth through their imperialism which is all overseas.

  • @nacho1560 well he has reliased his mistakes, which takes great courage!

  • This war is wrong as was the Iraq War.

However, I'm at a loss to understand why Joe joined up in the first place. He surely knew that by becoming a soldier he wouldn't have any say in where he'd be sent and what war his country would get involved in.

He deserted, and like it or not, that is a crime under the law.

Becoming a soldier is wrong unless you have a desire to kill, and sometimes you might have to kill innocent people.

Best thing to do is don't join up in the first place.

  • Soldiers have a right to demand that they are only sent for the right reasons and under due process of democratic law. Joe has spoken out and has been targeted for this. Many many other UK soldiers have deserted and as they have kept quiet they have not been targeted and simply given dischargesform the services. Joe is not a pacifist. He stated clearly he is from the profession of arms. He is fighting the Governemnt for sending his fellow soldiers to the war on false pretenses.

  • Know what you're saying fourman, I just feel that all who join the army have to expect at some point to be asked to do something they don't agree with.

Soldiers are trained killers, after all.

Personally, I'm against all war and I know the Afghan cause is crazy, that's why I'd never join the army, even if I could.

Good luck to Joe, I hope he gets off lightly.

I say to all young men out there, "don't join up unless you like the idea of murdering your fellow man."

  • @nacho1560 So you must be an expert on soldiering and being a soldier ...so caome on educate me ...

  • @theblackmafia71 No, far from it, I'm very much anti war. Some wars can't be avoided. WWII was one. Recent wars are based on profit. Invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan, followed by Libya under the con that we're doing it for the people. We're doing it because we follow the US into any excuse they come up with to invade and take over foreign countries. I have great respect for the men who are sent to fight but not always the cause they fight for. Only my opinion.

  • Free Joe Glenton... one of a growing number of soldiers opposed to the continuing war in Afghanistan. A truth that the British Government doesn't want the people of the UK to know.

  • God bless him for speaking his truth and the voice of many others. Ironic this thing called democracy!

  • 390 British Troops have been Discharged form the Army for desertion since 2001. They have Jailed Joe GLenton because he is fighting back for all his comrades who have to serve in this futile war. 73% of the UK population want a complete withdrawal form Afghanistan within 12 months. Where is the democracy at home if Gordon Brown continues to ignore the people!

  • No they havent you tit ! they have jailed the treasonable cunt and traitor becasue he went awol contrey to Milatry Law (army act 1955) it is called desertion ! and carries 10 years in jail! any other soldier would face the same. As for standing up for serving soldiers well he was aREMF and wasnt even near the front line !

  • He was in artillery at the main base and out skirts. There is no front line in Afghanistan YOU TIT! the most recent deaths of British Soldiers occured out the front of the main base in kandahar which regularily comes under rocket attack. My friend recently deployed to this base is there to reinforce the shelters and bomb protection there

  • Joe Glenton deserves all he gets.

A Soldier can not just refuse orders like that.

I dont doubt that many other soldiers feel the same as him but you dont see them deserting do you?

  • You Do! The Murdoch Media might not cover it but you should research to see what is really going on! 10,000 British Soldiers are leaving the forces every year. It has harmed the effectiveness of our forces and the Govt is now trying to grab an exit strategy which involves bringing Taliban commanders into power(sic). 40,000 US troops have deserted and as long as they dont speak out not too much is said. about 20,000 of them are in canada. massive movement there to support them.

  • Canada is slowly changing its mind, they are now starting to extradite soldiers back to the USA.

If someone has strong anti-war beliefs then they shouldnt join the army in the first place

  • Canada Has supported the troops and dragged its heals whilst playing politics.

Joe Glenton is a Lance Corporal. He has never said that he is against war. He specifically stated that he 'is from the profession of arms and that he expected to goto war'. What he has stood for is that the Government has broken its covenent between soldiers. They have a duty to guarantee that the reason is just and in return they serve. He has the courage to call them on that covenent.

  • he was on about the British Army you mong ! which are currently over strength !! as for 10.000 British soldiers leaving every year ??? errr the fighting strength of the British army is only 80.000 you mong , so i sugest you go away and do your research again.

from an ex soldier 14 years!

  • THe MOD report being currently 4000 understrength with a further 7000 soldiers in the Army currently unfit for fighting. THe total Fighting force of the Biritsh Army is 101,800 and currently at 90,000. THe problem with 10,000 leaving the army every year is that experienced troops are getting out and there is a greater reliance of new young recruits which effects fighting ability and puts a greater strain on experienced troops.

  • The army has been forced to let obese recruits join up and extend their basic training after discovering that two thirds of British teenagers were too fat to meet fitness rules.

In a damning indictment of today's 'couch potato' generation an astonishing 67 per cent of all 16-year-olds in the UK were found to exceed the maximum Body Mass Index for military recruits.

  • The British Army needs to recruit 15 to 17,000 recruits to maintain its numbers due to the numbers leaving each year

  • @fourmanfilms mark my words they'll be introducing national service next

forcing pople to join the army the moment they turn 18 just so the greedy warmongers can get their silmy hands on Ahghanistans oil supply

they dont care about the people, they care about themselves

  • great video

  • Yes but what about the Bankers, and oil families, and there pipe lines, and all the people making money selling weapons We must feel sorry for them they might lose some control over the oil pipe lines. We don't get a vote We just get to look at (A new face in Number 10 The war den.)

bring out clean nearly free H2O2 and 0 point energy and bring home our Lads and lassies

  • Free Joe Glenton put Blair in prison for war crimes!!!

  • No, we should *HANG* Tony Bliar.

  • Solidarity from Egypt.
