I use too work for barry finn during the 90s on roofing construction he was one funny and crazy lad he will be missed by many...... to the family of barry im so very sorry for your loss YOU WILL BE MISSED BARRY FROM ALL YOUR FRIENDS IN CANADA ALL YOU NATIVE INDIAN FRIENDS R.I.P NITAP
Thanks for posting this video and information about Barry's passing. We greatly enjoyed his music at several Mystic Seaport Sea Music festivals and at chantey sings following the festival performances late into the night. He will be missed...but his influence will be felt for a very long time.
This is such a tragedy, I'm just stunned, as is everyone else who knew him. We had just emailed each other recently. Ken Schatz of The NexTradition joined Barry and Niel, and we were discussing a booking for them at San Francisco Maritime NHP for 2010. Barry performed solo there in 2001 in a workshop of "Chanteys Cousins: Work Songs From Ashore." He was spellbinding.A great singer, a great guy, and a storehouse of rare songs.
This is devastating news, that Barry had a second heart attack after seeming to be on the mend from the earlier one this week. Such a wonderful voice, such a wonderful spirit. You will be sorely missed, Barry.
Thanks banjostead for posting this and to Debra C for pointing me to it.
Goes to show that a fine chantey singer like Barry Finn could well-understand and present a chain-gang song. I've heard many silly-poor renditions of it.
You won't know the difference, when the,
When the sun goes down, well-a.
This is so great.

Oh, sorry, that should read "Neil," not "Niel."

I've known him for nearly thirty years. Played and sang at his wedding. Did some gigs with him. Loved him, as did everybody who knew him.

Stunning. I so wanted to sing with Barry. But more, i just wanted to meet and talk with him. I feel the loss of this almost friend so keenly.
