Another way to get the lv 0 shield is to glitch your way through the island, get the secret seashells and trade them before getting the sword at the beach.

F'n Sweet! I just beat LOZ: Link's Awakening Glitch style!

I went to the game with no sword until I needed to beat the boss.

I got the Magic Fire Rod from Level 8and LVL 2 Power Bracelet before I did anything else.

Since I didn't get the sword, Marin stayed in the house the whole game!

She never got trapped on the bridge or had that beach moment with Link or sang the Ballad of the Wind Fish the whole game.

I still had the Yoshi Doll that you trade for stuff that's critical to move on.

I just tried messing around with that just now.

The end result was the owl saying "Whoa boy! Where ya off to in such a hurry? Set a spell, I got somethin' ta tell ya!"

Simply brilliant, I did this by warping back and forth left and right when creating the level 0 shield.

No, it only works on the original release - the gray carts. The DX version fixed the glitch along with adding some content.

It's alright.

The ROM should be fairly easy to find, if you're into emulation. The cart itself, I'm not sure of, but I'd hope it doesn't have a "super rare" status just yet.

I found it on UK ebay last night, and I'm planning on getting a Game Boy Pocket. Does it matter if you have it in a different colour pallet?

You can use it on a GBC, Pocket, etc. As long as the game's code itself isn't changed (Gameboy Colour doesn't modify game code to colour the game), it should work.

It's given to you at the beginning of the game.

The Level 0 Shield basically functions like a normal shield; but it doesn't appear when used.

It looks like you don't have a shield at all - which is why I proved it was there by blocking some shots from the Octoroks.

i've come across the level 0 shield...a different way though. the weird thing about it is if you get eaten by those man eaters, even after you kill it, you don't get your shield back, unlike the level 1 shield, which u do get back after u kill the man eater.
