It's a bass solo Jason Newsted used to play live with Metallica, and I think it's on the Live Sh*t DVD(I believe it was in the San Diego show). Pretty good piece, sounds interesting when fingered.

The first part of the solo uses chords of an open d along with the notes 7-9-10-12-10-9-7-9-7-6-7-6 but you were just hitting the notes on the bottom string with no open d string along to make em all chords.

the main reason he used a pick was because when he got his first bass he couldnt afford an amp so used a pick to play louder but he is a good player with fingers

fair enough. i use a pick beacuse it gives a harsher sound but i use my fingers for gallops or complex riffs where i have to go between strings quickly
