Hi Penny & Mark - In addition to the richness of trees as symbols in the Israeli/Palestinian context, I like the idea of a sapling as a visual marker of resistance-in-progress, because it is still growing, and must continue to grow for it to come to fruition. But I do think there is also a place for symbols that highlight the violence of occupation -- this is why I like the images of confrontation w/ the army, because they point to the tremendous power imbalance in play.
