  • This is great, thanks for the video :) Well done!

  • I heard Wayne Green mention & wondered how many would be thinking to themselves who's he & what does he have to do with ham radio? Great job thanks for sharing

  • @5lkk Wayne is W2NSD (Never Say Die). He founded 73 Magazine, and was the editor for most of its run. It's a bit of poetic license to call him "mean," (though that is one of the two biggest laugh-lines when I perform the poem live), I think it's fair to call him "curmudgeonly." Anyway, he's never complained to me! (The other big line? "A flying sleigh, with an 8 element beam." And thanks, everybody, for taking this video viral! 73, Gary KN4AQ

  • @KN4AQ Yes I know who Wayne is, I was just commenting as to how many newcomers to amateur radio know.

  • @KN4AQ. Good fun thanks a lot for producing it. Good DX all!

@ZXROMEO. Ive been in plenty of situations where Amateur radio was the only method of communication available inadequate coverage of commecial facilities. We can setup and pull down a station in a short time where there may not be commercial coverage. We love our world wide hobby and our knowledge is invaluable.

  • Very very nice. Thanks very much. 73s. WW5PA.

  • Nice to see W1CJD's art featured. Phil 'Gil' Gildersleeve went SK in 1966. His clever illustrations graced the pages of QST for many a year.

  • VIEWERS: Thank you for your kind comments! As we cross 20,000 views (!) the stats show that this little video is being seen three times per viewer (or, per IP address), on average. More than half arrive via a link from e-mail. So thank you for sharing it with your friends, radio club, etc. 73 - Gary KN4AQ

  • Thanks Gary. Now I got the Christmas spirit. 73 From John K6LSN in Beautiful Shasta County, Northern California!

  • awesome...I love it... merry christmas to all!

  • Excellent - I did something similar years ago and read it to the Delyn Radio Club on our last meeting before Christmas way back in the late 1980's. I got some wonderful groans and a few laughs. It was amusing to see how alike the two were considering the time/mileage difference. I'll have to try and find mine again.

  • Very good Gary, a little different post than mine hihi...

    Will pass around

    Cheers Jack VE4JA

  • Outstanding!

  • I shared this video on my Facebook profie. Very well done Gary! I enjoyed the pictures a lot as well. That is a great nostalgic collection. I remember the QST with Santa soldering. I think I still have it somewhere *grins* 73, Brad KD5AR

  • Fantastic,A very Merry Christmas to each and everone.

  • Perfect example of KN4AQ being the professional amateur he is. When will he ever get tired of hanging his own meat in public? Too bad he doesn't have the talent to cut it in a real radio or television station - we would all be so blessed by him if he did. He's an "idea" man 100%. My 12 year old daughter does better work with more creativity.

  • Great Santa.....Now just a little word, I have some outstanding qsl cards could you help?

  • @G0APV - He did it for me... maybe he'll do it for you. Have you been a good ham all year? 73, Gary KN4AQ

  • @KN4AQ .....I guess not Santa.

  • Brilliant work OM!!!

  • I met Wayne at his house in NH. He had just received the first issue of BYTE magazine from the printers. I enjoyed 73 for years. Back in the 70s, 73 magazine was nearly an inch thick! Randy

  • Very Funny! Great Job!

  • Great video! Nice to see all the old ads! 73 Bob KC2RDU

  • Enjoyed the step back into yesteryear...73 John W5JBO..(ex WA6BOB)

  • Wayne was a very early adopter of digital communications and amongst others magazines started Byte and TRS80 Magazines . His company was registered as 1001001 INC. Do the binary to decimal. :-) Paul VE3SY

  • Wayne Green was also the founder of Byte magazine...

  • HI, how long did it take to put this together, all the clips, writing, music and editing? Randy

  • @K7AGE - Hey, Randy! A note from the master! I did this piece by piece. I wrote the poem in 1996 in about 4 yours. The voice recording was a few years ago, with a quick update this year to add some manufacturers, drop "plus" from Technician, and change the end a bit. Let's say 3 hours to record and mix. Music was provided complete. 10 to 15 hours of video prep and edit. A couple hours of render time (old, slow computer running Premiere 3). Where does the time go?

  • @KN4AQ Thanks for the info. Just goes to show how much time is required to put together a polished video piece. Steve, wG0AT, has also mentioned some very long prep and editing time required. I spent over 6 hours on some vacation videos, mainly cutting out the junk, dropping in some B rolls, and re-arranging the clips to make it all flow better. I really enjoy sitting in front of Vegas putting these videos together. Thanks, Randy

  • Gary this is really cool, well done!

Interesting how many of the "youngsters" don't know about Wayne Green.

  • Outstanding collection of images from the past!

  • Thanks for putting this together very good!

I have included it on my web site and share it with our Club members, QST covers great, 73 thanks again Mike de G4VSS
