where did you get this rally video from as i would like a full copy of it my dad is 1 of the drivers in this video his car comes in at 53seconds over the train track and again taking a corner at 2minutes and 3 seconds , i would be willing 2 pay what you want for a copy or if you can plezzz ! or if can get a video clip where shows just his car and interview at start of the tape !

I miss The Safari Rally because i really paid close attention to it in my teens and so the event will always be a reminder of my youth. This Sport now Falls in the old school category of my life events. The heart of the rally is pretty much the unpredictable events that unfold.

The spirit of the kenyan horizon spectacular and the speed mixed with dust and remnants of the some what monsoon rains. I have know words to describe the ever changing climate and the vast horizon of acacia trees and thick dust. The safari rally and all the pro contestants need to come back to the ragged red soil and test their machines to victory on the Kenyan soil that humbles the most experienced drivers.

Safari might come back in 2013. The FIA has been interested in bringing it back. It would be more like the IRC Safari event though. No plans to make it like the traditional event. The Kenyan government supports it and they hope to get extra sponsors as well. The FIA will observe the Rally in 2010 and 2011 to see if it's viable. Then in 2012 they'll place their bid and maybe then it will be on the 2013 WRC calendar.

Here in Paraguay we have a very similar rally which is the "Rally del Chaco" or "Transchaco Rally" and is being held now in the western desert of the country which is called "El Chaco"

I have watched a couple of videos of the Chaco Rally and it looks very hard, but there isnt lots of information on this rally all i know is that it started in 1971 (18 years after the safari rally) and that the Chaco rally was based and was created from the safari rally's character but i would like to know more like how long is the event? and who are these "specialists that say its tougher than the safari rally??

Truly the good old days of rallying when this was the epitomy of driver skills and the 3200 mile rally was in effect a speed section from beginning to end with the odd tarmac transport section.Before the days of turbo chargers souped up engines 4wd etc but ultimately boiled down to driver ability fitness and dogged perseverence. Not to decry the modern Rallys but to those of us who rallied in East Africa in those days surely must have been the very essence of thrills and excitement. Selwonk1804
