The only two problems I have with Scientollogy is to be a member you have to pay them money to do an "audit". Most major religions ask for donations but dont expect money from you. There is a huge difference between cults and religions.
Think of any of the big religions in the world, christianity, judaism, Islam, Buddhism etc etc. None of them try and conceal what their main doctrines are. You dont have to be a Christian for 10 years before being allowed to read a bible, you dont have to pay 10 000 dollars to receive an audit test to determine if you can be in the religion or not.

The only two problems I have with Scientollogy is to be a member you have to pay them money to do an "audit". Most major religions ask for donations but dont expect money from you. The other problem is that they have this us versus them mentality and try to get members of their church to cut off relations with people that have other beliefs. Most christians I know are still friends with me even though I am an atheist.

@leveetator ALL religions are weird if you take a rational step back and analyse them with a free mind. Believing in Thetan's (or whatever) is just as delusional as believing in a god.
A lot of people have been brainwashed in to thinking religions x,y,z are sensible whereas 'other' religions are odd. The reality is that they are ALL odd. If you criticise the beliefs of scientologists then you can't not criticise the beliefs of all the other religions.

@mikeyo1234 It is not the Thetans I find weird. It is the sneaking around photographing people, suing your own parishioners, and "auditing" out critical thought I find odd. Also, spending millions of $ trying to convince everyone that doctors are running around performing lobotomies is a bit strange (for a "religion")

@leveetator Very true. Although the Pope does try and infiltrate politics, and you have the sex abuse scandals, the Pope is also treated like a rock star and the Vatican is rich. This is NOT what Jesus probably had in mind, if indeed he did exist. So the Catholic church is dodgy as hell... pun intended.
However Scientology is certainly worse. Also be honest... you REALLY don't find the Thetans thing weird... come on!

@mikeyo1234 I do not find Thetans as weird.I find the denial by Scientologists that they believe in Thetans (galactic parasites) as weird.I do not find sexual abuse and corruption in a church as strange-I think it exists in most societies and religions.I just think suing parishioners, following everybody around with video cameras, spending millions on celebrity lounges, work camps, and labeling non-Scientologists as "SP" as strange-maybe not for a totalitarian regime, but strange for a "church"

@leveetator Yes their behaviour is odd. I also think the bible story about an old man being stoned to death for working on the Sabbath is quite odd too.
When the Pope visited the UK he was treated like a rock star... I find that a bit odd for someone whose policy on contraception helps spread AIDS and therefore kills people. Christianity used to be more threatening and dangerous than Scientology is now... people used to be killed for not believing. Christianity was therefore worse!

But it is the 21st century. And I believe AIDS is a virus that kills people,catholic church or no catholic church. The Pope does not follow people around photographing them,tearing their condoms off, or suing them for using spermicidal jelly.
