  • when i try to play my sequencer, it says its disabled. can you help please your the only video ive found that teaches the basics. also your recording is blur i can see what key your hitting.. thanks

  • Brilliant. Just got EZ Drummer for *super* cheap (yay Cyber Monday!) and have been wanting to use this exact method. Now I've got FINALLY full mixing control over my kits. *fist pump* Thanks kindly!!

  • Did you end up doing the thing with the EXS-24? can you direct me to that video?

  • Thanx a huge lot! just didnt find any ohter guide to do this, this was great!

  • YOU HAVE SAVED ME! I spent 12 hours yesterday trying to get Vienna Special Edition to work in Logic, and only had a mess of multi-timbral tracks that were all linked together. THANK YOU!

  • But how to go from here? Every video I watched on making mutli out stops here, but I cannot record anything yet because I have no tracks. And how do select my different instrument to record on?

  • @AndreasvanHaren Dunno if you've already figured this out, but just in case: you'll go back to the original track the instrument itself is on and lay down your tracks there. The Aux channels for each output only control the audio, not the source of the sound.

  • ur a big jucy nerd nerd nerd

  • awesome videos.. i can always pop on ur channel late night and learn some new tips. Keep up the good work ninjatsu...

  • even with the technical difficulties, that are easily forgivable, you still managed to make another great tutorial that really has helped make Logic much less intimidating. Dude, you are the greatest. thanks for the information.

  • playin metroid, eh? atta boy

  • i want all the multi tracks in my mixer so i can automate each drum track.. how do i do this?

  • FELLETES LMAOOOO

  • I LOVE METROID!!! FOR WHAT SYSTEM??

  • Is there a way to mute/solo all your multi outputs at once? I tried the main esx channels mute/solo buttons but they dont work once you choose multi out. I then created an aux and grouped my multiouts to that aux but for some reason it only mutes them, when i hit solo i get no sound.

  • can you use your saved channel strips from other files in a new file?

  • way to make the screen as fuzzy as possible!!

  • Yeah, this was done in the early days, when I was still figuring out how to screencap! Don't worry, the videos start to take shape later on.

  • Thanks for that. It has just made nepheton and drumazon much more fun.

  • EXACTLY what what I'm about to do with D16! lol

  • logicninga is a grt vdo....keep up the good work it helps us a lot...thxxxxx

  • what are all these outputs? none of this makes sense to me. out 1-2 is the main output, which goes thru the computer speakers, right? where are the other outputs?

  • some vsts, like superior drummer 2.0, have the option of not only stereo out, but multi out, so you can have kick, snare, hats, etc returned to seperate tracks in your DAW, rather than mixed together from the vst into a stereo pair into your daw,

  • "Perusing my videos"?

    :D :D :D

  • Thanks man! I'm new to Mac and Logic, and your videos help me a lot in learning the program. Thanks again! Cheers!

  • thanks a lot!!!!

  • I dig your videos.

My question is although you have full control over those different sounds now, what about when it comes to arranging those sounds, how can you record and view them in the arrangement window. It seems like there's more to do to make this super beneficial??

  • Fellas333 - To view the aux channels in the arrangement window, you need to set them to read. Just look at the channel strip in the mixer and you should see a little box saying OFF - left click and hold and select read, that should show the aux channel in the arrangement window.

  • apple guys should pay you and should sell logic with a dvd with all this tutorials... it would be great

  • Great video,

i've got a problem with logic:

when u are working on a project you'll have several instrumnets and each of them will have some effects on them, my problem is the instruments that i dont have effects on will have alot of empty effect slots.how do i remove the empty slots? anyone!?

  • hahahahah! something i have been racking my brains over!!!!! i have a really small monitor since i use a mac mini and an outdated ibm screen. its like only 14 inches. so i always have to go to the mix window find out the effects on that channel since most of the effects are hidden by the inspector/ property window on the top right..... PLZ lemme know if you can find something out buddy!!!!!!

  • I've never tried to get rid of the empty slots, but i don't think it matters them being there - it doesn't take any more memory up or anything :)

unless the reason you want them gone is because you have a small screen, then I'm not sure what you could do!

  • you don't, Logic just does that to look more streamlined.

  • Well done, very helpful video. Thank you!

  • Thanks, man. It´s 3 am here in mexico and I really needed to know how to do this right now (obsessions, you know)

  • YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Very nice although you were clearly very tired when you made it.

  • great videos ninja!very useful and very funny!nice sense of humor!take care man!

  • How do I do it on the EXS24 ???? thanks!

  • I was wondering whether it is possible to have more stereo outputs than just 7 stereo outputs and 8 mono outputs.

I have ultrabeat with loads of percussion samples which i want to have an individual aux channel strip.

I dont feel like to group some since they each sound way different. Just want to have total control i guess.

Is this bad practise or am i just a control freak?

  • Hey can someone please help me. I installed 2 new Virtual synth on my mac and I can select them in logic but when I play a note there's no sound I can see that logic recognizes my midi controller but the vst's or AU don't make any sound but the other instrument that came with logc work perfectly HELP ME please I'm desperate

  • hey wassup sflogic ninja!!, was wondering if there would be any chance of a video on how to multi channel individual beats uploaded to the EXS24, so that i can draw them all in on the same piano roll screen but still be able to minipulate each individual beat .

or to word it better, a video just like the one u did about multi channeling ULTRA BEAT but on the EXS24 ????

if that makes any sense to you a video on this would be most appriciated...

    cheeeeeeers!

  • HELP HELP HELP

The same problem as 'youmilkpack' comment....

Once you have the Aux channels in the Mixer, how do you solo/mute the different tracks in the Arrange? They solo/mute all together.

    HELP HELP HELP

  • Shhhhhh. *pets ispirians head*

Just select the aux tracks in the mixer, go to 'Options', and add those selected tracks to the arrange window.

    *bows*

  • What I want to mute/solo in the arrange are not the Aux channels although the multi-midi channels connected to the Ultrabeat for example. And this is because I have the sequences in Midi channel not in Aux channel.

    Thanks a lot anyway

  • Are your channel strips grouped?

I'm confused. Email me with screenshots, plz.

  • @SFLogicNinja This worked for me BUT i can't enter midi info in any of the aux channels in the arrangement window.... just the main instrument one???? Is there a way you can do this so you can have separate tracks for Kick Snare etc.... Help appreciated!

  • Thanks FourEdge! I'm relatively new to EXS and everytime I use a new sampler and don't find what I'm looking for I panic. But thanks again I'll try it out.

  • Comment removed

  • I've been doing this stuff for a while now with ultrabeat, superior drummer, ez drummer, etc. but cannot figure out how to route a kit using EXS. I know how to set up the aux tracks, but where in EXS do I go to assign the drums to the desired tracks. Would someone please help me? Thanks!

  • Click the 'Edit' tab in the upper right hand corner of the EXS24 to edit the routing of each instrument. For each key there will be a number of different boxes above that key on the keyboard, select these to change the routing.

The routing works the same way as the multi-out ultrabeat - aux channels can be assigned for the different drum samples. If you select multiple boxes, just select the routing for one and it should apply to all that you have selected.

    Hope this helps! ;P

  • How do you actually record the software instrument? (the manuel says you have to make a "bed" but i dont know how to do that

Also how do you get to the plug ins like pitch correction?

  • so this plays the different drum patterns together?

u need some rest man! lol

  • CAn you PLEASE!!! do the same tutorial for Battery 3????

  • Sure now we have alot of midi tracks & Aux´s in the arrange. We can edit the midi & solo the AUX´s.

Is this the ONLY way to go for solo/mute/volume/automation?

Reminds me of old Pro Tools were midi channels never controlled volume of instruments. But then came instrument channels (tada!) I have a really hard time accepting isn´t a much easier way. One channel should be enough (please god make it so)

Hope to really solve this one Ninja...

  • If you create a multi-out instrument, go to the mixer view and click the plus sign at the bottom of the instrument's channel strip. This will create all of the auxes needed for the instrument, and you can keep the auxes out of the arrange window.

If the multi-instrument's midi channel is set to 'All', then it listens to all channels....

I may be misunderstanding your point, tho.

  • I wasn´t clear enough, sorry.

I want to be able to edit midi (& solo/mute/volume) on one seperate multi-track (eg. Kontakt) in the arrange window without havning to go to the mixer and do this on the aux channels.

Why I want this is cause when every other track in the arrange acts like this it´s very confusing if some acts different, and it saves time!

  • is massive a mlti out instrument? or will it hook to just a stereo channel?

  • It's just stereo

  • ok this sounds like what i need to do, how do i change the esx-mo to "all" ?

    thanks

  • you're the bomb! Thanks a lot for alll the help..

  • This is the best music guy on the tube. This one is really logic. Hope he continues. I wonder if logic can play a voicesample on the keyboard in tonescale? Like an instrument

  • if you load the voicesample into exs24 and map it chromatically, then yes

  • thnx for the tips!

Do u know if u can use 2 screen monitors with Logic Studio 8. (extendeds screen mode)

example on my left screen i would have my track and on the right screen i would have my Eq;s or plugins...I find it a lot easier to record this way and since i dont have studio 8 yet im wanting to make sure that i Can split the screens and use my 2 monitors like i usally do. I just find myself more focused this way rather then having everthing on one screen.

    hope u can help

    thnx !!

  • Yup. works like a dream.

  • Hello, I'm from Mexico and It's amazing how easy you can work on Logic Studio, I'd like to study at your School, Studio.. anyway that would be very difficult to my economy... Thank you for all Tips, I'm studying Logic a little here in Mexico checking the manuals and Your Amazing Tips... see you and take care

  • We'll see how our economies compare after a couple months...

But seriously, I'd love to have you here. THere are great places to study in Mexico as well. I was trained with someone from Mexico. Keep at it!

  • that's rad but now that you've created a separate mixer, how do you get each track to appear individually for composition in the arrange window?

  • Yes PLEASE someone answer this! I´m trying as crazy here...

  • Awesome. I've been trying to figure that out forever. Thanks SFLogicNinja.

  • I got the US-122 tascam I am using on logic pro 8. my problem is 1) when I talk in mic I can't hear nothing on cpu/speakers 2) my computer built in mic works I don't want to use that Im tryna figure out how to disable cpu mic and use my external mic threw interface. 3) wen My Cpu mic records; logic records vocals but I dont hear my own voice during recording but it records when I play back. 4) at first evrything worked good mic with interface what did I do for it not 2 work nomore?? help! help

  • really helpfull video Dave.. I keep on coming back to it, when I get confused (Which happens alot!)

  • Hi SFLogicNinja,

Thank you for your helpful tutorial. I tried on your tip #8, however I encountered some issues. the INST1 did not appear on my Aux input list. What should I do?

  • THANK YOU

was wrecking my brain trying to figure this out.

  • Great thanks man. Keep them coming.

  • i'm gunna play some metriod. then go to bed haha

  • So I have watched your midi vidoes and I still dont get it. I can create external instruments but I cant figure out how to send the bank change message...This is riving me nuts. I also downloaded your environments but none of the ones I need are there. I have a EMU Mo Phatt, Motif, Ensoniq MR-61, and Korg TR-rack. Can't find these anywhere.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • silly question... but i just bought logic 2 days ago and already started to read this huge user manual but wich button is the "option" button ?

  • Hi There! New to logic and trying to not only do audio recording, but cheer music. Need to know how to change the pitch of an already mixed song without changing the tempo. Also, is it possible to remove vocals from songs with this software? Thanks for your help.

  • Dude...do know how to set up my axiom 49 with logic studio, cause' it dosen't respond to my axiom settings...THAnk's so much!!!!!

  • Thanks again. Battery was driving me CRAZY!!!

  • Hi Dave, Love the videos!!! I'm new to Logic and finding these videos SO helpful to get me up to speed with the program. I'm up to lesson 9 and plan to go through every lesson over the next few weeks. Keep up the great work!!

  • Hi Dave, first of all I have to say your video's are very very helpful!! Thanks a lot. Now I do have a few questions. Im using Studio 8 with some roland TD-12 V-drums, SPD20 sampler and a VP-550 Vocal ensemble. How the heck do I access the tones from the machines via midi?? I can access the tones in logic no problem. I just cant finsh the loop in the enviroment panel to machine tones. Do I need to make a patch list for these machines too?? Lost in Shanghai!!!! Talk about enviroment....

  • this is exactly what i was looking for man. "how do i apply plugins to individual drum sections". i havent actually run through it all the way, but this looks like exactly what i need. keep em coming because i will be staying tuned! now if only i wrote good music... ;). cheers mate!

  • Hehe. I guessing by the sound of the mic you droped in this post is a SM58, or at least a unidirectional dynamic microphone. :P Heard that sound once or twice before! :P

Cant thank you enough for your posts mate!! You have made my workload a hell of alot easier to get through. Thanks for inspiring us all and making the world of Logic Easier.

  • Hi David

Thanks for the video, looks cool. Another easy way to create a Multi Instrument with Aux sends...

    1. Select a software instrument

    2. Click the + Track (you will notice there is a number nxt to it is Multi Timbral, click this and select say 8 track) u an go up to 16!

    3. Open the audio inst. (like David says, as a multi out inst).

    4. Select the desired outputs for kik, bass, sn, etc.

    5. Open Mixer window, and click '+'.

This way the Aux are already grouped ;)

    kittygroove

  • thanks for the video, but you seem to have those 'pauses' when you play the pattern...why is that?

  • thanks a lot man another usefull video

  • Basic Q:If I X-out of Ultrabeat (using the x at the top left corner of the instrument gadget looking thing) how do I get it back? I don't want to redo all the aux inputs etc.

  • double-click on the Ultrabeat instance on the channel strip, above out 1-2

  • Thanks. The click in Logic seems to have functions such as the "click pause" etc. As a result the obvious eluded me. Thx

    T

  • thanks..

  • I would really like to say thank you for everything you have done for all of us.

    Thank you.

  • Thanks For your videos :)

    Great tutorials.

  • thanks for the video Ninja. just what i wanted to know..thought in the beginning that Ultrabeat was crap, but then thats because i didnt know the possibilities.looks like i might be using it from now on.. thanks again..

  • thanks man this stuff is great

  • How do I get the aux channels I created to my arrange window...I used to be able to double click in 7 now it dont work?Any suggestions? Thanks

  • Um, I think the best way would be to create a track, audio or software, and control click on it, where you can change it to the aux in question.

I think another way would be to enable the 'touch' automation setting, automate the aux, (volume or whatnot,), and it should magically appear...

    *bows*

  • Silly me...Thanks that works great.I also saw that if I use battery or sampletank and other plugs that (-+)symbols appear under my mute and solo buttons in my mixer, and by clicking + it automaticly adds AUX channels to my mixer and assigns the instrument channels ascending 1+2,3+4...and so on.I think thats awesome! Thanks again shinobi master.

  • A much easier way:

    1. Open the mixer and select all the AUX channels.

    2. Click Option (within mixer window): "Create Arrange Tracks for Selected Channel Strip"

    Done!

    *Deeper bows* ;)

  • What he said. :-)

  • Great video Dave!

I just have one question: when I try to add AUX tracks from the Instrument channel, it doesn't let me choose between Mono or Stereo. When I try to convert the newly created Mono Aux Channel into Stereo, Logic pushes the converted Stereo Aux track to the end of the mixer. Keep on rockin' man

    peace

    4MuLA

  • I have this same issue...any solution?

  • help!

  • Yo!

I'm running 7.2.3, maybe you can help me with this little conundrum?

Ultrabeat is only giving me the option of outputting stereo (1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8) and I'd really like to split my drums into more mono groups. Any ideas?

    Many thanks.

  • yo man, you are seriously one of the best youtube content authors out there.

you need to get paid for this!

i love your videos and all your tips. please continue making more (and making money off of it somehow, i'm not lying, this is genius)

thanks so much SFLogicNinja, you are awesome.

  • could you post some more about ultra beat as i am new to making music and logic please LOGIC NINJA YOU ARE THE BEST!!!

  • What do you need to know?

  • dude i'm multi-outing right now to the auxes...just one question, how do i record??? can i record enable an auxillary??

  • Make sure you really NEED to record, first.

You can also solo the aux and bounce offline

You can also assign the aux outs to a bus, and assign an auio object to that bus, and record to a track.

Recording auxes to audio is overrated, unless you are looking to free up some processor. It's time consuming and lugubrious. Why not leave it running through the aux and allow yourself the flexibility? :-)

    Goo luck!

    *bows*

  • hey, sorry my question was stupid i wasnt thinking right. what i meant to ask was if i make a pattern in the sequencer in ultrabeat how do get that "record" that pattern unto a track?

  • if by record to track you mean "how can i drag the ultrabeat-sequencer-material into the arrange view, then look to the bottom left corner of the ultrabeat window and click onto the button next to pattern , and then move your mouse to the arrange view and you have your sequence as a midi region.

  • sweet tip! thanks!

  • I have watched all of your videos and want to thank you for all your time and effort. They are by far the best tips I have seen on the net for Logic users! God bless you...

  • great... needed 2 know that... do I have to do that evertime i do a new project or can this be loaded like in the old days in the "auto-Load song"??? That make sense?

  • The new preferences in 8 allow you to have your templates in a folder, and you can choose whichever one you want to have opened, versus having to name it 'autoload'. Check out your global preferences in the Logic menu.

  • Much Thanks 4 all ur help...I'm multi-outing ultrabeat as we speak!!!

  • nice

  • These videos are great! Thanks!

Can you do one about ES2? I can't figure out how to make drum and bass style, wah-wah bass. I'm pretty sure I need to use ES2 to do it.

  • Yeah. Totally. But send me a message. it's getting hard to track comments! :-)

    Thanks for watching!

  • Nice 1 dave

There is also a '+' button at the bottom of the Ultrabeat Mixer channel that will reveal all of the relevant Aux channels instantly - you still have to assign the input I think.

  • Wow. That's totally cool! I just can't believe how well they've streamlined workflow in Logic 8.if I can follow up next week I will. Sharp eyes!

  • hehe , yeah it's slick alright.

Would it be cheeky of me to suggest a tutorial on how to incorporate UB into Hyper editor as a mapped instrument? Something Thats been perplexing me since I saw it mentioned. (or the benefits of Hyper editor in general) your faithful subscriber Triple ;P

  • Funny thing is, if you click on the lower right hand corner of the UB where it says 'Full View', you get a very familiar Hyper-editor-like view. The hyper editor is kinda funny. I'm running out of uses for it. i will do a tutorial on using it as a pattern sequencer, tho. I'm trying to get some other stuff in before then.. maybe I can do a one off this week... we'll see if I'll survive this week of composing madness.

  • Hey man, I have really enjoyed your videos. You are very articulate and have a great preso style. Just wanted to encourage you to keep it up and let you know it is appreciated.

Definitely request some more Audio tricks and tips!

  • Thanks a lot, sisawat73. That means a lot to me.

  • Thanks. Wow, Ultrabeat is insane. To hell with Battery.

  • Battery is better with multi-sampled instruments, tho....

EXS works a wee bit better, too. For sequenced beats, though, Ultrabeat's pretty rad.
