well Lana died and clark went back in time to save her but somebody had to die in return.Atleast thats what I think but I'm not sure.

I know I'm about a year late, but remember Clark died in an earlier episode, and was brought back by Jorel. Clark was told at the time that someone close to him would die as a result.
