This song is a poorly written word salad. I sat with my mum in the days before she died. We talked about many things including god and chuckled at those who cling to their superstitions in such circumstances. These lyrics are trite and easy to say. Her courage was real and she faced death in the full knowledge that that was that. Like a grown up. She didn't need a crutch because she was strong not weak and had led a good and full life with no regrets, and no need for a fantasy skyman

This song is just about how the different prospectives people see god as, such as belivers who put their faith in god in troubling situations, and non belivers like when she says "god could be funny when he will give u money if u just pray the right way and pop up like a ginie.
I can't speak for the artists intentions but I don't see "god" as being literal.
When she says "god", what I think she means (or, at least, what I take from it) is the feelings of hope that people cling to in times of trouble.
We may all say that we're too strong to need to validate our existences, or that we're too logical to bother with hope. But a moment of mortal peril can erase that and show us that, deep down, we all value ourselves and have some sense of self-preservation; of hope.
I really don't understand how you could miss the message in this song. And btw, it's not an insult to christians or atheists either for that matter. She's just saying people don't laugh at God when they're hurting because they're either crying out desperately for help or very angry with him. Even though a lot of people they always believe in a different way. Some people think he'll save you no matter what. I believe god exists, I also believe he makes a lot of weird decisions, not bad ones but weird ones. Maybe it was the right decisions he made. But I personally don't like him very much. I believe in him, I respect everyone's else's opinions.

people need to stop saying that she is saying if you dont believe in God you're going to hell. she is saying that we desperately need to realize God does not hate us. ever. even if we dont believe in him or just ignore him. she is singing about the irony of how people dont think about or thank God when theyre lives are good but completely turn around and pray and beg him for help and mercy when they're in trouble. we need to always thank and pray to God, no matter the situation.

the song isn't even really about God. its about people and how people act. Take your pick at what/who God is to you. maybe its just how you treat your friends until you need a favor. there's a lot of interpretation involved, so believe what you want.

I think people are really missing the message.
People constantly mock God and do disgusting things, but when it comes down to it, when things are not looking good... Then they dont mock God, They will usually pray and say, If you do exist help. Then after they get through if they do, they just mock again.

Targeting the Non-Believers for believing in a higher power when shit hits the fan.
Targeting the Believers for exploiting their Religion and giving false answers + hopes in exchange for money, plus claiming that their belief is the one true belief.

@StreetRocaFella I don't think it's about nonbelievers or believers alone. I think it's about how people use the name of God so innapropriately as a joke, but when something bad happens they go straight to God.

the songs meaning is really easy it's just that in ur hour of need you don't moke god. and that all the sudden even if you aren't religous you wouldn't moke god. but that people who don't have any worries at the moment laugh at god.
