  • A very good song

  • i love this song!! i dont think that it matters what the meaning of this song os because it will be different for every one, as long as there is a meaning.

  • OMG its soooo goood i nearly cryed because its just a beautiful song and its right...

  • What a great message. And a great song.

  • Can we all shut our mouths now? If you don't like the song because of the way you perceive the message to be, stop listening. If you do, great. Coninue listening until your ears fall off. If you're like me, and you're figuring out the message for yourself, either keep listening so you can figure it out or move along. Kaye, thanks, bye!

  • This song the sister of Alanis' song "ironic".

  • i dont know yet if im either an atheist or an agnostic :S but regardless whether i or others believe in god or not! i still love this song so people need to stop getting their knickers in a twist and just listen to the song ...........its beautiful :D

  • Damn... I just found "the Call" from her... and thought that the other songs are also awesome..... the sound of this one is still good but the lyrics sucks.

  • @Sagaepic did you even listen to the lyrics? and if you did then you must be really stupid.

  • @reaxsan Yeah and that God stuff is why the lyrics are Bad!

  • @Sagaepic You SIR. Are a classified idiot.

  • @InnerSailor .... because of what?

  • @Sagaepic

Because you're too FUCKING ignorant to realize what she's even singing about.

I assume you're an Atheist? That's the only real reason I could see why you wouldn't like this, because she's proving a point with her music that you dislike because you know she's right about it.

And if you can't see the point in this song, then you truly are an idiot. Or just much too underage to understand the complicated meaning Of the fact that you're just ignorant.

    amirite.

  • @CommentisAnonymous

"I assume you're an Atheist?" Correct

"....because you know she's right about it." Fail

"And if you can't see the point in this song,..." i can, but still don't like it

"...understand the complicated meaning Of the fact that you're just ignorant." I know that i'm Ignorant... but that is no bad thing.....

  • @Sagaepic

SO, you're saying it's wrong because you don't like it?

    Well, let's say I'm a Christian.

I don't like your view on my religion considering you're an Atheist.

    So you're wrong.

    I just proved Christianity right!

    YAY!

  • @CommentisAnonymous

i dont say its wrong because i don't like it, i'm saying its wrong and i don't like it.

I just have some bad prejudices about some Christians, i don't like prejudices but evryone have them so......

And i think i don't have to say something else.....

  • @Sagaepic

So because some Christians are absolute fucks, (Youtube "The most hated family in America, to see what I mean.) All of them are?

So if I'm robbed by some Indian, all Indians are bad?

  • @Sagaepic May I ask when being ignorant is a good thing?

    Juuuust wondering. XDDDD

Or just much too underage to understand the complicated meaning Of the fact that you're just ignorant.

    amirite.

  • @Sagaepic Dissing a song that is talking about such a sensitive and strong point close to many peoples hearts, is a stupid move in my eyes.

  • @InnerSailor Sorry SIR, but you need a stronger heart.

  • I absolutely love this song. All of hers are amazing.

  • Such a sad, sociopathic song. Dying and afraid? Yeah, I bet you want God now... Oh, he loves you so much.

  • wonderful. Really.

  • Condescending and smug, like I used to be. In the end, people believe what they want. They have free will. For me, I was fortunate that He touched me and my doubts dissapeared.

  • I think Verbal Kint said it best and I'm paraphrasing " I don't believe in God but I'm afraid of him". That's what the sing is about. I went through my "I'm such a

smart, confident, evolved badass. "The Crusades and Catholic Priests and oh yeah, Jim Baker!"...15 years ago I had what can best be described as a religious experience. I didn't feel so smug and angry anymore. Today I live with the assurance Christ gave. I'm at peace. Ricky Gervais is a funny actor. He also comes off as incredibly co

  • House laughs at god in a hospital ;)

  • I think these are her most obvious lyrics, but the least understood one just because religon is the topic. It shows how sensitive that subject is

  • @XxtoastloverxX I see your point, but it's not really about religion - it's about god. God is not religion. I am not a follower of and nor do I believe in ANY religion, and I don't believe in much of what goes along with most of them. Heaven, hell, repentance, karma, etc etc. but I do believe in something which you could call God.

  • Wow. Love that voice. Touching lyrics.

  • Religion is subjective... deal with it.

  • this song is so full of emotion. its so beautiful.... i cried...

  • what a great song

  • It's a beautiful song, sung by the best singer/songwriter out there, accept it! GBR

  • To me, when things go horribly wrong, I think the opposite. That's when a lot of people lose faith in God. That's when I laugh at God actually.

  • @suicidemonkeysquad: skyman? Your ignorance combined with such arrogance stings me. All you "invisible man in the sky/spaghetti monster" atheists are exactly like the people you mock: far too confident in your beliefs, and completely unwilling to question them, or even think about the other side seriously.

  • @TheDestroyerCrom Ignorance is funny... As Individuals we have our own individual understandings of life, religion, faith and a sense of being and self... You abuse suicidemonkeysqad like your opinion is right... Like his opinion is wrong... Well, his opinon got him through his mother death... his opinion helped him to be a support for his mother... his opinion made him stronger... Why would you selfishly question that??

  • This song is a poorly written word salad. I sat with my mum in the days before she died. We talked about many things including god and chuckled at those who cling to their superstitions in such circumstances. These lyrics are trite and easy to say. Her courage was real and she faced death in the full knowledge that that was that. Like a grown up. She didn't need a crutch because she was strong not weak and had led a good and full life with no regrets, and no need for a fantasy skyman

  • @suicidemonkeysquad The best thing about this song, this "poorly written word salad", is that she's jewish which means that she doesn't believe in God, but she's able to undestand the beliefs of others in such a way that you would only be able to undestand if you for five minutes put away your ignoranrce your disregard for other peoples beliefs (fantasy skyman? are you fuckin real) and listened you would understand that its about respekting. Rememer you comment when you see your mum in heaven.

  • @rad941205 Jewish people don't believe in God?

  • @rad941205 There is such thing as a secular jew, but it is plainly incorrect to say "she's jewish, that means she doesnt believe in God".... Jewishness is both an ethnicity as well as a religion. and... religious jews definately believe in God.

  • @suicidemonkeysquad So because Christians believe in a certain set of morals, we're handicapped cowards? Flawed logic, friend.

  • <3<3<3 this song. i want to take my headphones and crank it up, sing aloud and dance till i fall on my ass and break my leg. wow I'm weird (that goes for every single song i heard from heard from her)

    that is all

  • To me the message in this video is that even though god ostensibly doesnt exist, its the only comfort we have in certain situations.

  • Comment removed

  • love the song, love the video. well done! i'm sick right now, so regina spektoris helping me recuperate with her amazing music via youtube. okay, back to puking up my guts...

  • I could totally picture this music playing at the end of Grey's Anatomy right after they just saved a patient who was an atheist and later became religious....

Or maybe playing at the end of an episode of Flashpoint after the team resolves a hostage situation in a church and the last shots are of the "Boss" looking at the stained glass windows before walking out and then fade out to black with rolling credits....

  • this is real music

  • I think its about the ppl how dont belive in god and laugh at his existence but when somthing bad happens they arnt laughing bcuz they r kinda scared :) they dont kno if hes real or not. If u dont like my opinon dont say somthing about ppl who do belive in him ^^" at least we all agree reginas great. lets leave it at that~

  • is regina a christian??

  • @Stationary315 No, she is Jewish

  • Too bad god's not real

  • @barcelonatimes Who's to say? I myself believe in God and Jesus Christ. You sound almost sad in that comment. God is real, however I cannot make you change your mind. Faith comes from within.

  • @Anya365 I am sad god isn't real, but just because I've lost some of my childlike naivety doesn't mean i can hold on to idiotic beliefs. Tell me, do you believe all other religions are wrong? And if so do you not think they feel the same about your beliefs. I don't have faith, I have what little knowledge i've ascertained, but faith didn't save my father.

  • This song always makes me cry. Regina Spektor is awesome

  • any1 else pay attention to what she say's at the end?..where all laughing with him, kinda funny because this song might mean something complete different than u all think.

  • i love this song..!♥

  • This song is just about how the different prospectives people see god as, such as belivers who put their faith in god in troubling situations, and non belivers like when she says "god could be funny when he will give u money if u just pray the right way and pop up like a ginie.

  • I can't speak for the artists intentions but I don't see "god" as being literal.

When she says "god", what I think she means (or, at least, what I take from it) is the feelings of hope that people cling to in times of trouble.

We may all say that we're too strong to need to validate our existences, or that we're too logical to bother with hope. But a moment of mortal peril can erase that and show us that, deep down, we all value ourselves and have some sense of self-preservation; of hope.

  • Regina Spektor - Laughing with ME

    lol i <3 this song

    ~</3

  • I really don't understand how you could miss the message in this song. And btw, it's not an insult to christians or atheists either for that matter. She's just saying people don't laugh at God when they're hurting because they're either crying out desperately for help or very angry with him. But I am a devout Christian and God makes me laugh all the time. He truly has a sense of humor. And Christians make clean God jokes all the time too! :) So laugh with him not at him. :)

  • Laughing with God, the best cure ever.

  • wie ich dieses lied doch liebe

  • this song is so fucking quickley over

  • i like regina but the message of this song is BS. i don't mock god in times of particular trouble because i don't want to crush other peoples' desperate hopes. it's unnecessary. if everyone was an atheist i'd still lol at priests.

  • @diablofn

    then you dont get it.

  • @diablofn um hey i think your thinking about it wrong . I think wat shes trying to say is that when everythings all right and calm people laugh at god cracking jokes on him for stupid things. But everything is silent if something bad happen or when you need him to come threw the most. What you just said up there almost confirms my theory

  • @loverfromlove i didn't elaborate very well. when someone is being read their final rights on a death bed, i'm not gonna roll my eyes and lol at the priest out of respect for everyone elses' emotions. i think regina's point in this song is that people only take god seriously when they need him- most people use religion as a crutch. i lol @ god all the time on the inside.

idk what regina's deeper intent for the meaning was, it could go in two polarizing directions. maybe that's the point.

  • This song has nothing to do with the advocation of religion. I believe it's a very quaint F-U to everything that does advocate religion. Anyone who disagrees is entitled to their wrong opinion.

  • This song isn't religious. Look at it the right way =)

  • She's such a sweetheart.

  • Inspirational.

  • the more i realize how much the majority of people does not believe in a higher ... "force" (bad word, sorry) that gave him/her the possibility to live on this stunning, unbelievable planet, but turn the human race into an ignorant, egocentric bunch of creatures, i am thankful for the belief my parents could give me.

i think even nowadays a little humility is essential for a fulfilled life. sounds weird, but thats what i think.

    a wonderful song.

  • Regina got a point.

    I belive in God, but I'm a Jehova's Witnesess.

I wouldn't laugh at God. Never.

I saw a movie, a sad story. One woman said: "I know I haven't been with you for a long time God, but... please be with me. Be with me".

    Regina got a huge point.

    Love this song. ♥

  • can you people just enjoy the song.

  • fave song of regina. i love her.

  • Even though a lot of people they always believe in a different way. Some people think he'll save you no matter what. I believe god exists, I also believe he makes a lot of weird decisions, not bad ones but weird ones. Maybe it was the right decisions he made. But I personally don't like him very much. I believe in him, I respect everyone's else's opinions.

  • She looks so different in every photo but she seems so happy... The world needs More people like her and her music...

  • One of the BEST song I've hearde in my life! soooo true!

  • people need to stop saying that she is saying if you dont believe in God you're going to hell. she is saying that we desperately need to realize God does not hate us. ever. even if we dont believe in him or just ignore him. she is singing about the irony of how people dont think about or thank God when theyre lives are good but completely turn around and pray and beg him for help and mercy when they're in trouble. we need to always thank and pray to God, no matter the situation.

  • No one's laughin' at their God, when their God finally decides to throw the joke back at 'em.

  • haha, i think Spektor's got the best youtube comments! of course....there are still idiots, but hey its the internet!

  • Discovered this song today on pandora. Now I'm hooked. Its has a lot of meaning and makes u really think about thanking for the positive things

  • the song isn't even really about God. its about people and how people act. Take your pick at what/who God is to you. maybe its just how you treat your friends until you need a favor. there's a lot of interpretation involved, so believe what you want.

  • heard this at church today, not much of a god person.. i get the message and love the song. her voice is amazing. very pretty too:)

  • wat is this song exactly about?

  • <3<3<3

this song is real and simple and relateable to each and evry last one of us in some relevant way. Props to Regina for being true to herself as an artist and creating this piece which I have fallen madly in love with over the past month.

  • Пожалуй лучшая музыка в мире которой можно восхищаться)))

    реSpect to Regina)))

  • Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?

  • this song is very true!!

    ppl only belive in god

and ask 4 his help when

    there goin through problems!!

  • The first picture is my computer wallpaper:) awesome song

  • oops i mean voice

  • amazing song,such a gorgeous voiced

  • brilliant

  • whoa. I thought it would be a regular song but then I just happened to hear the lyrics (by mistake, too, because I almost never hear the lyrics to music...) and when I heard them I was just like "...whoa..."

    Song has a point =/

  • yeah, it's pretty deep

  • she is so pretty and this is my fav song in the hole wide world

  • k10x, you said that well. Thank you.

  • I think people are really missing the message.

People constantly mock God and do disgusting things, but when it comes down to it, when things are not looking good... Then they dont mock God, They will usually pray and say, If you do exist help. Then after they get through if they do, they just mock again.

  • that's exactly the message alot of people mock god and it's as u say the beg him for help when things are bad for them

  • @kl0x that, i believe, is EXACTLY the message given here. Thank you for the clear up tho, couldnt have said it better myself :D

  • I'm that way...

    :/

  • @kl0x Veryyy good point!! :)

  • @kl0x thats just desperate hope

it does not mean that you really depend on him in that moment

i nearly died twice in my life and no god helped me i just had to pull all my strength together

i dont know anybody who mocks god but believes in him

  • @kl0x

honestly.. thinking about it now.. I've done that on a few separate occasions :\

    Things that make you think...

  • @kl0x The message is targeting both Non-Believers AND Believers.

Targeting the Non-Believers for believing in a higher power when shit hits the fan.

Targeting the Believers for exploiting their Religion and giving false answers + hopes in exchange for money, plus claiming that their belief is the one true belief.

  • @StreetRocaFella I don't think it's about nonbelievers or believers alone. I think it's about how people use the name of God so innapropriately as a joke, but when something bad happens they go straight to God.

  • @StreetRocaFella i agree that alot of 'christians' give false answers. and it sucks for the rest of us. :( but maybe it's because they aren't ready to answerall the questions thrown at them and they can't handle the pressure yet? i don 't know. just somethin to think about. sometimes people don't always have all the right answers on the spot (: u know??

  • @kl0x i totally agree. it's sad :( and he's always there, too

  • @kl0x ^^ i agree!

  • @kl0x ur retarded

  • @kl0x they mock him again because when they pray, when they hope, that some one, some anything, will help them, and nothing does, think about that one hot shot

  • @kl0x how can someone miss the message of this song? I thought it was pretty simple.

  • @kl0x

Creation is and has always be part of me and in nature.

    This is reality.

    Creation is in me.

God follows it's laws of course.

  • @kl0x pls don´t tell us what´s the message of the song... i´d like to discover this for my own. this music is not like a book, that you just can translate ;)

  • the songs meaning is really easy it's just that in ur hour of need you don't moke god. and that all the sudden even if you aren't religous you wouldn't moke god. but that people who don't have any worries at the moment laugh at god.

  • i don't beliven in god either, but i wouldn't be so sick to say "you suck!" to a christian! you got some poor problems, grow up!

  • I don't believe in god either. But I still listen to songs like this. One thing doesn't have anything to do with the other. And if you believe in it, it doesn't have anything to do with problems.

  • @WeidnerbrautDD that's a smart thing say man.

  • Comment removed

  • Good song and good video. Better than the one done by the record company by a very long shot.

    Kudos to you.

  • Thank you :)

  • @ackerrj: The company video was brilliant. It was, among other things, an homage to Rene Magritte, who was an amazing surrealistic painter. A shame you couldn't appreciate it.

  • hey iKittysaur has god ever to be proven not to exist and if someone has seen him or heard from him they are labeled as insane

  • I don't believe in god, but I don't say that people who believe in god are stupid. Which you seem to do. Grow up and quit being a close minded bigot.

  • Wow... iKittysaur, you have issues. All because you don''t believe in God doesn't mean that she shouldn't.

  • that is so true to

  • Cute song.

  • Yeah we're all laughin at god until we need someone to help us and he's all we have.

  • i like this song but to be fair i don't laugh at god when the catholic church ruins half of my friends' lives with lies.

  • i dont really believe in anything, but this song is amazing!

  • I don´t believe in anything, either, and really not good, but I also love this song! So sad, but at the same time so, so beautiful.

  • So fabulous!

  • while this is still only the 2nd time ive herd his song - *awe struck*

  • my second time as well and I am feelng the same way!

  • I love this song :)

  • good voice but the lyrics were just poorly exucuted.

  • She's saying no one laughs at God when they need him

  • Nice song

Nobody laughs at something that does not exist, it's actually true what she says.

  • This song is so beautiful, almost makes me cry!!!

  • i love you gump alot sorry i couldnt have said no i no it hurts and i sorry alot i love you gump R.I.P gump i am sorry happy b day on the 16 of aug 14 yrs old sorry but ily
