  • I think shes amazing, but I also find it very sad that she is working in the animal-killing industry. If she loves them, it must be very hard for her. Or maybe the autism helps her with these bad feelings...?!

  • @podencaa Well its gonna happen no matter what, so at least they can die peacefully

  • As a bow hunter I always found it the most amazing sensation to be out in the wild and suddenly get the sense that I am being watched, judged, evaluated and gauged. The realization that I am in an alien world-where I am not in control of ANYthing. The hunter who doesn't realize this moment is missing the lure and adventure of hunting: The understanding that humans lack a certain sophistication that can only be found by existing in the wild.

  • This is so great!! Gives people with disabilities lots of hope!

  • While I never had any difficulty talking as a child I think my brain works a lot like Temple's. Especially the way she was explaining the simple emotions. Happy, sad, afraid, angry.

  • @bananaPLEASE i am the same

  • @bananaPLEASE Me too. :)

  • She is my hero...

  • I really lov this woman!!! ;o)

  • Shes amazing :)

  • so you find out you think can understand the thinking of a cow and then you design better slaughter facilities. She may be autistic but she is still thinks VERY much like average human.

  • @letsgetverydrunk Mister, you clearly don't have the whole story here.

  • @BirdingCristina elaborate please.

  • The most amazing thing about this woman is she is using her gifts; that should be a lesson to us all

  • She should get in the kitchen and use her autism to make me a sandwich.

  • @HubsDrunk dick.

  • @HubsDrunk Men invented the sandwich, men should make it. Otherwise, the thing I'm going to be looking for in the kitchen is a frying pan to smack some sense into you.

  • @HubsDrunk You should get in that slaughter house and use your testicles to sweep up some cow guts.

  • i just hoped that she would just use her talents to help free animals rather than lead them to their deaths in a less tressful way

  • @richardhaw How would you solve the problem of feeding a .. huge population? By freeing the cows? They don't even have a place to go. Perhaps vegetarianism? Converting a omnivorous population to become herbivores takes much more than an insight into animal behaviour.

  • @bukifuriku Hello. when there is a need. people will always find a way one way or the other.

  • @richardhaw I think the need in this case is, meat. We want meat. And 'harvesting' them is the cheapest way, the way of the consumer. Maybe one day our need for banning meat will be greater then the need of eating meat. And then we will indeed find a way.

  • @bukifuriku Hello. Need and want are 2 different things. some people i know do not even want to smell the aroma of meat that maybe you and i are accustomed to and may even come to like. animals require more to maintain than plants,so i believe that plants can be more efficient as a food source for the masses. i do agree on your last statement. as a youth, for a time, animal products from europe are banned because of chernobyl. i now live in tokyo and they are doing the same thing as well.

  • @bukifuriku It takes roughly the equivalent of ten kilos of corn to make one kilo of beef. And that doesn't include pasture.

  • Comment removed

  • @IonxZone Consequently it takes 10 ounces of beef to get your nutrients where it takes 4 pounds of uncooked corn :P The problem is that we are omnivores and that we are with many. The solution is not to all become vegetarian, but that's just my opinion. The solution would be to produce animal friendly meat. But that is also just an opinion. Vegetarians should promote animal friendly meat by eating it and increasing the market for the farmers ;) That way it will become commercially interesting.

  • @bukifuriku But that's just another way of saying 'stop being vegetarian'. Two is still far less than ten and if ethical meat is the right way then that starts with meat-eaters eating it, not vegetarians. Vegetarians should campaign for more ethical practice, but ultimately, if cows are suffering then it is the apathy of meat-eaters which is to blame.

  • @IonxZone I agree with you. I wonder why (I guess) most vegetarians don't want to eat animal friendly meat. Issn't that what they are all about? Against the harsh conditions in which meat is produced? Or do they think it's sad for an animal to be eaten... Animals need to die, in order to feed other animals. Or else these other animals would have never existed. Just like humans. Our evolution is fueled by high-energy meat, our intestines became small. Our teeth sharp. I can't be against meat.

  • I understand totally the pragmatic approach to welfare within a system. I differ ideologically, though - Since mammals have memories, pain sensors, bonding ability, etc, I do not entertain the notion of eating them, even though they have been a cornerstone of our dietary evolution. Adequate sustenance can be had without killing them. I eat as low on the "meat" continuum as possible - frequent fish, shellfish, poultry. Never mammals, though. They are too much like us, it makes me nauseous now.

  • @abyssquick Our new brains made a way for idealogies. Perhaps I feel that as being unnatural, and therefore I need to circumvent it perhaps. I could also just let everyone have their own ideals. But then I have nothing to discuss :)

I would love to know more about 'autists', I have a friend who is one but I would not want to confront him with it. Perhaps we (abyss and me?) can talk about that for a bit? Would it be helpful to that person? We can talk about it in personal messages if desired.

  • Yes, feel free to PM. ::: True to the whole "detail" type thinking, there are 2 modalities working here - one eclipsing the other - 1: The pragmatic one that sees animals, plants and the biological world as a series of chemical reactions and carbon storing/transfer. Humans as animals, eat meat, like all omnivores. 2: The moral notion of "treat other as I would like to be treated" - since science tells us how animals are like us, I see little difference. #2 stands out more to me here I guess

  • @abyssquick There is a big difference between the 'morals' of a antilope and those of a wild lion. How about this thought; If you treat a lion nicely by wanting to give him a fish, he'll eat you. He is as much/long evolved as you but without the logical brain. He eats antilopes for breakfast. Our moral is a kind of irrelevant, in the scheme of nature. If you are a meat eater, you eat animals. But we have a conflict with our 'do no harm' modules, I know that that is the reason for not eating meat

  • Yes, that is interesting. It's the "do no harm" module overriding. Humans do have a unique position of choice, even if those choices defy our biology.

  • @abyssquick Your ideology is a fantasy. People eat beef etc. It is how it is. She is doing a good job.

  • "How it is" implies that humans do not change. Yet it is this quality to defy nature that makes us unique. We humans have a unique ability to imagine something, to investigate & understand scientifically, and on this is built our modern civilization.

I have already expressed how I feel about this. It is not meant to be taken as applying to you - it applies only to myself. I'm not some militant vegetarian, and I never said I did not admire what Temple does.

  • @abyssquick Humans can defy nature to a certain degree but we have to realise that we always live by natural laws.

  • Yes, that is granted. Evolution of the human diet has given us faculative digestive systems, which allow us to derive complete nutrition from an wide array of sources - a central reason we are so adaptable to all areas of the globe. Our advances in modern farming give us so much choice as to what our nutrition sources can be. We're not in the wild anymore. As soon as we can feed everyone, we can then continue to forge whatever world we want, one step at a time, physically and ethically.

  • @abyssquick One step at a time towards what?

  • I don't know if you're following all my previous posts, but this is actually a very confusing question to me. All I mean is that everything accomplished by society is incremental. I apologize - many of my thoughts are redundant, granted or unnecessary. That may be one of them.

  • @abyssquick Maybe you have a poor memory, or a fickle mind.

  • ...? That's just more confusing. What is your intention in saying such a thing?

  • @abyssquick Disregard that comment. Many of my thoughts are redundant or unnecessary.

Will you answer my question about the comment you made? This question was:

"One step at a time towards what?"

  • I don't see anything specific. That's an open-ended part, to be filled as we see fit. The point being that we are the authors. I can't tell the future, nor provide a goal. I certainly don't want to impress my personal preferences on others. My 'not eating mammals' thing is just a personal reflex. It is informing my vision of the future. (The people at PETA I find to be very off-putting actually.) I only stated it here to add to the diversity of opinions already floating around earlier.

  • I am autistic, too. Like Temple, but not as severe in many respects.

  • @eolian maybe she has profited, just because she chooses not to live in a big fancy house, and swim in money doesn't mean she doesn't have it saved up somewhere. Regardless, She is an inspiration.

  • I now have a great understanding of the brilliant mind of my stepson and some of the things he does and why he does them. As well as some of the reasons why I think like I do. I commend her for putting up with all her hard times so she could share with others.

  • Just watched all 5 parts. I can't believe how much we think alike! (I'm diagnosed Aspergers late in life...would have been if caught early). It is so incredibly validating to watch you! You have said many things that I myself believe. I WISH I could see you speak where I live and have a chance to meet you...not because you're famous, but because I relate so much, and you inspire me. How can I find out where your speaking engagements are? I live near Pottsville, PA.

  • First woman hero in my life apart from my mother in my 23 years of life.

  • I wanna lay on the ground and have cattle come to me

  • @eoIian

    I really hope you're kidding.

  • It's so sad that she uses her unique abilities to benefit the slaughterhouses. It's a disgrace that they call it animal welfare. Making cows comfortable and unafraid for the sole purpose of moving them through to their death quicker (and so you can kill more of them in the same amount of time) is not caring for their welfare. It is evil trickery. Millions of more cows are being killed thanks to her and karmicly she is going to have to suffer immensly because of it. I wish this ended differently!

  • @eoIian she didnt improve efficiency she improved the moods of the cows before slaughter

  • @jackonmsn that is true, but she also improved efficiency, she wouldn't "have the meat industry at her feet" just for making the cow's day.

  • @eoIian i think they respect her for it. and i dont think she has the industry at her feet since its a billion $ industry and she doesnt seem to have profited much financially

  • Did this help anybody else understand their cat better?

  • fascinating woman. still makes me very sad for the slaughtered animals.

  • Very inspiring woman. I'm immensely happy for her success in life.

  • This is the kind of story that makes me even more excited to go to college and specialize in the study of autism. her story is amazing and fascinating. I have such respect for Temple!

  • worry about growth hormones, vaccinations and over consumption of meat too, it turns us into walking porkchops.

  • amazing story

  • What a stupid name for an inspirational and education documentary. it must have been months I've seen this doco and passed it up, cause it sounds like a "man with seven penises" or "woman who shits gold bullion".

  • I am a student at Colorado State University and have had the honor of hearing Dr. Grandin Speak on campus and will be a student in her livestock handling class this next semester. She is an amazing person and her contributions to the cattle industry as well as the autism community are truly beyond comprehension of most of us. Dr. Grandin deserves the utmost respect from all of us

  • wow just wow some of us who are perfectly fine and we arnt missing a single thing go through school and live making up excuses to not do anything. if she can do it with such a hard life we can do it!! there is no excuse for others who are perfectly fine!!

  • @killersnake8000 Yeah!

  • I can relate to her.I hate wearing dresses too,I hate the feeling of skin touching skin.I can't wear some jeans because of the feel.I can't go to crowded stores because the noise and and everything is too much. Some noises drive me crazy. That tool ortho uses to smooth your tooth before applying a braket for braces for your teeth I hate because of the noise it makes.People would call me retarted as well.Feels nice that this women is making a difference

  • I almost started crying.

  • it's quite amazing how she reacts just like a normal person, props for her!

  • and she used her special mind for killing this animals...gg

  • @ionescuandrian she used it to make the killing process less stressful, which is a hell of a lot more useful than bitching about how killing animals is wrong

  • @euratessuh she uses her special mind for killing this animals.i think you are missing the point.

  • stupid soundtrack

  • 2 people are vaccine conspiracy theorists or vegetarians.

  • Oh. The ending was so wtf?

  • All this doesn't ring a bell at all. First of all science CLEARLY has no clue about autism. It's new & it's BOOMING showing something specific is going on.

It probably arises through either massive intra-uterine trauma or exposure to toxins -vaccinations for instance. In fact we can be pretty sure that the ACTUAL CAUSE is known to some people all the way up there.

Secondly, if this woman could REALLY connect with cattle and animals to a significant degree, ...

  • @ElleEstVivante

Stop? Stupid comment. Anyway, the 2nd half of my comment didn't come thru & try iy now:

IF this woman had ANY kind of empathy with animals, SHE OBVIOUSLY wouldn't work in SLAUGHTERING HOUSES, would she?

I don't understand why everybody wants to think this is so great and wouldn't be surprised if such a woman would work with equal application in a hypothetical HUMAN slaughtering camp. Autistic pattern recognition. No emotion. SCARY!

  • @suddenlyitsobvious Oh. You want to argue. I do too but you are clearly holding tight to your bias so arguing will get us nowhere. I'll leave you feeling like you've won.

  • @FTWinnable

    OK, so you're 16.

    Your first comment is "stop".

Your second comment says I hold to a bias & arguing is useless.

    So TWICE you said nothing.

There's no "winning" against someone saying nothing.

I suggest you either make a point or don't post at all, at least not to me.

Wouldn't it be more intelligent to state what your problem with my observation is?

  • I love this woman!

  • Has she or anyone ever thought that perhaps animals SHOULDN'T be eaten in the first place??...

  • @pilarpi have been thinking about this for years. i don't like how humans don't even consider this option :/

  • @SaraSidleXShego I know Sara, people are blinded nd lost in their ego trips without ever stopping to notice what is around them or the beauty of other creatures. We think we are ''superior'' or more intelligent, we are the most selfish and ignorant specie on this planet,I admire this woman's strength but I believe she has used her gifts in the wrong way, If she really understood cows she would know that they dont want to be killed and that they want to enjoy life as much as we do. Love xx

  • @pilarpi very well said

  • @pilarpi as far as i know she doesn't eat meat or at least she didn't well into her 20's she ate jello and yogurt as most people with Aspergers/Autism have very picky eating habits...she does this purely because she cares that while the animals are alive they are treated humanely and that they can be calm she relates because she has so much anxiety...

  • @pilarpi She answered that in this VERY video 7:42 - 7:55 "I am NOT into ideology, I am into what are real, practical things that make improvement on the ground."

Ideology of whether eating animal is morally "right"/"wrong" is not what she is concerned about. Practically speaking, she has literally [tangible evidence] seen how the animals have been distressed and suffered due to practices in the industry. To remove that suffering, through practical methods, is her goal.

  • @pilarpi probably but maybe she sees it as the difference between having an ultimatum between a cruel and torturous death and a more peaceful one. Unfortunately realistically the meat industy, at least in United States, wont be going away soon.

  • The people who love her most are the cow killers. I don't find that much of a recommendation. They just want their job to be easier.

I find this woman repulsive, and her personality is clearly disturbed. She enjoys killing animals. People like that find it easy to switch from animals to people.

There is really very little she does to make the lives of cows any better. They just go more quickly to their deaths, without struggle.

Going vegan is the best thing you can do to help animals!

  • @ThumperBunny43 you really dont get what this woman does and how great she is, you have vegan blinkers on

  • @ThumperBunny43

Her personality isn't disturbed, she just has autism. She doesn't relate to the world or to people in the same way most people do; it doesn't mean she'll start killing people.

  • thank you so much for sharing this information ♥ what a wonderful lady X

  • And the dick and vagina thing. Bashing gays isn't even the point. Making babies is the number one reason to have sex. And there is only one way to do that. Dick - Vagina. But all you guys hear when I say that is. "derr he hates gay people" Dick in vagina is NATURAL. Remember that's how life keeps going. And do I care if you stick yours in an ass? For the 300th time no. Just dont say it's more natural than the natural way. It's blindly idiotic to even think so. Im done on this convo

  • @CrabJock making babies is not the number one reason to have sex. Everyone with a little bit of insight in human nature KNOWS that offspring is a byproduct of human sexual activity. I am not saying making babies is neglegible, I am saying that is NOT what drives us to engage in sexual activity... bonding is. It is blindly idiotic to think otherwise. That is why homosexuality exists, infertile heterosexual people exist and post menopausia sex exist for women.

  • @amatorynumber I think instinctually, our life is geared toward reproduction. Our genes have the goal of replicating themselves. However, we're such complicated animals that we can bypass the whole make a baby thing and still lead meaningful, happy, pleasurable lives. yay!

  • @nevaeh87 thumbs up to that!!! :-D

  • @amatorynumber I agree entirely, except I don't know that I would say "bonding" is the main thing that drives us to engage in sexual activity. I guess it turns out that way often because we get into relationships and such, but I'd still say the main thing that drives us to sexual activity is, quite plainly, the physical desire to do so (although I will support your point that it's still not "creating offspring").

  • @CrabJock Babies are a result of our desire to bond and have a sexual relationship, whether we want them or not. Although wanting them is wonderful, make no mistake, THAT IS NOT THE REASON FOR SEXUAL BEHAVIOUR IN HUMANS OR HIGHLY EVOLVED ANIMALS, such as dolphins.

  • That was awesome, I think u'll enjoy that even if u don't like documentaries.

  • Dr. Grandin, if you are reading this, you are my hero, and I have never said that about another woman. Thank you for caring so much for not only cows, but people. Despite being seen by over a dozen mental health professionals over the past few years, it was not until two months ago that he was finally diagnosed with Aspergers (gifted in science) and he's almost 9. Dr. Joseph Patterson suggested I learn about you, and boy am I glad that I did. I hope to meet you one day.

  • @TheGirlgamer321 I've met her once and let me tell you, her classes are to die for.

  • Vegetarians are just another group who over complicate human behavior and instinct. I can understand if some people just don't like the way meat taste. That's natural.. But when you fight against what is natural. It's just pointless. A dick goes into a vagina. Meat eating teeth are for eating meat. And etc. Am I prejudiced? No. I honestly don't care what the hell you snobs do. But when you say it's civilized to be a vegan. Or it's better to be gay. Then your just being utterly stupid.

  • Comment removed

  • @CrabJock

What gay people do is every bit as natural as what any other pair of consenting adults do. Sex is wonderful, mammals are responsive to both sexes. Consent matters. By the way, vaginal intercourse takes place in a sheath through which menstrual fluid, afterbirth, babies, tampons, penises, tongues, fingers and stray urine from the adjacent urethra pass. Do you get those substances "all over" yourself when engaging thusly? Oh, and you should say "if you HAD read my comment".

  • @CrabJock

Penises go easily into a mouth, a vagina, an anus, and any other orifice which can provide pleasure for consenting adults.

  • @CrabJock

Who cares if eating meat is "natural" or not? Your "canine" teeth are just like a hippo's "canine" teeth, and hippos only eat vegetation.

The smart, compassionate choice is to forgo meat, dairy, eggs and fish. It's better for the animals, less plants are killed to feed a vegan than an omnivore, and a vegan diet is far better for the planet.

And, your "dick" will work better if you're vegan cuz of better blood circulation. Vegans are generally slimmer and healthier too.

  • @ThumperBunny43 Vegans are stuck up douche bags who think they have got the answers all figured out. I say bullshit. I crave meat. If I was born into the wild with no guidance from others, I would have the instinct to kill an animal and eat it. Because it's instinct. You snobs think that if you force yourself to not do something that's natural, its "civilized." Well whatever makes you feel better than me I guess. And I lol'd at all the beating around the bush you guys do to make a point.

  • @ThumperBunny43 In general, every one should eat less meat. In ancestral times, meat was more of a scarcity for us, and our bodies are adapted to that. We crave fat and sugar because of its scarcity in ancestral times, and it's the reason why people eat too much of it when its readily available (as it is today). We can outsmart our instincts if we want to...but there's nothing like some delicious bbq. It doesn't mean I want my cow to suffer, though. Oh yeah, everything dies, and nature is ugly.

  • 03:20 - made me giggle, she "thinks like a cow" as the show says, and she seems to be all for animal welfare... but somehow she's designed so many machines to slaughter and kill animals... Something doesn't quite add up there, oh well... :p

  • vegetarians are plant killers so sdfu! eat dirt if you want to btch about eating meat.

  • @NewEraRevolution

Sorry, but the meat eaters are actually causing far more plants to be killed. To create a pound of meat, 10 pounds of plants needs to be killed to feed the poor farm animal. Vegans are kinder to plants, animals, and the environment.

Meat eaters are wrecking plants, animals and the environment for the rest of us.

  • @ThumperBunny43 isn't that what you would call the circle of life? ok, if you choose to be a vegan its up to you but if someone chooses not to be a vegan thats their choice too, just because you're a vegan, it does not mean you get to be so righteous

  • ha ha, great ending.

  • She doesn't think like a cow! No cow wants to die. No cow wants to be tricked into going into a slaughterhouse. It's more humane to let them see where they're going and be able to protest!

Grandin's the darling of the meat industry. She "improves" killing, making it easier for the killers. Most animal rights people don't support Grandin or see her as humane. She's seen as making it OK to eat meat.

To help animals the most, GO VEGAN. Next best is to eat way fewer animals and animal products.

  • I wish more people would respect the autistic.

  • This woman is a genius and also the Patron Saint of Hamburgers

  • My son was just diagnosed with pdd/nos and was told to watch this.....WOW I have great hope for my child. I dont think i have ever cryed so much in hopes and dreams for my child to succed in life. Im very touched......thank you

  • @peggerfootball You should watch her movie ! Its incredible..

  • Also people, really, are you telling her to stop what she does?

People somewhere will always eat beef, sorry. Even if -you- don't you should applaud her efforts.

  • She actually mentioned it before, but it's not just for ethical reasons that preventing stress before slaughter is a good idea.

Stress-free means production goes much faster, more efficiently, and with a better quality of meat than if the animals are stressed beforehand.

  • She's the hero of the obscene meat industry. That tells you a lot!

duffmanIVXX I hope your son doesn't become an animal killer like Grandin.

  • Sure, make cattle like being slaughtered. This is insanity!

People should stop eating animals, their eggs and their milk. It's unnecessary cruelty. These animals live horrible, painful, terrified lives and ghastly early deaths.

    GO VEGAN

  • @ThumperBunny43 Dude, I'm a vegetarian and I already hate you. We've all heard this billions of times, and because of people like you us civilized vegetarians and vegans get a bad rap. Shut up. Please. I'm on my knees here.

  • @ThumperBunny43 Eggs are unfertilized, and their mothers stop caring for them after a while anyways. Milk is taken painlessly.

  • I'm all for not being intentionally cruel to animals, and giving even those destined to be our food a decent life, but it seems kind of useless to make sure they're not stressed just before they're slaughtered.

  • She is amazing, due to the fact that her illness didn't stop her from achieving... things. But I'm sorry, as a vegan, I can also see that she kinda helped the exploitation of animals. She understands animals but because of her autism, I'm really curios if she comprehends the fact that those animals suffer and the stress that they're under is only a small part of the bad treatment that they're receiving. Nevertheless, I really think she's remarkable.

  • It is truly amazing that nobody noticed the details that could frighten any herbivor. I ride horses, and a even a small piece of a plastic bag on the ground would make them freak out. I am no scientist, but I guess it has to do with peripherial sight... or lack of it? Tell me off if I talk rubbish.

  • Comment removed

  • @Komsip Its probably cause its not normal for others. I'm the exact same way where I love meat (your typical islander lol) but refuse to watch or take part in killing animals. I couldnt stand watching the documentary 'Earthlings' even though it was for a good cause.

  • anyone know how to cite something from this documentary? is it from the BBC?

  • Of all the humans on the planet,

    finally this one makes sense.

  • Temple says she only experiences simple emotions, but she demonstrates here that she also experiences two of the highest of all traits: compassion and humility. Very special woman.

  • I love her and I love this video! Thank you for posting!

  • At 7:30 and following: We have a responsibility to treat **the animal** right and make sure they dont suffer. Thats just really . . . super important. How interesting, a person with a unique skill that makes them famous, as an advocate for kindness, to an entire species of mammal. Where have we experienced this before?

  • I love her, she is truly awesome.

  • amazing woman, thx for posting!

  • Amazing life story and achievements.

It is inspirational. Journalists feature people that are exceptional in some way.

Too bad success cases are tiny fraction of the real life situations. I wonder why we never hear the stories about the normal unremarkable statistical average life of people. Is it because it is normal.

My experience tells me that a person could go through his/hers entire live without a single "memorable" event (subject to definition of "memorable")

  • Loved this. What an amazing woman.

  • I could watch this woman all day. She is fascinating.

  • What an amazing mind

  • thank you for posting...she's fascinating

  • this woman is my hero, gives me hope for my son's future

  • I totally agree, duffman. I have realized from reading a great deal about it, that I probably have asperger's syndrome, and can identify with a lot of what Ms. Grandin talks about. I have many heroes, but I think Temple is the newest one on my list!

  • what this woman has done for autism research and improving the treatment of cows makes her one of the most important people in our day. I am glad they made a movie on her and and least give her some recognition What she has done is beyond the average joes mind. I hope that the many suffering children can get relief from her experiences The pain she felt as a child like a schizophrenic having sounds and emotions amplified in her head is a very painful thing to endure What a great battle to win

  • I love how people take just the parts of the Bible that serves them.

    Leviticus 11:3

Whatsoever parteth the hoof, and is clovenfooted, [and] cheweth the cud, among the beasts, that shall ye eat.

Yes, this is cows. Are we supposed to eat them alive??

  • And then it talks about man having dominion over the earth and all of the creatures........I'm no Christian, but the Bible wasn't referring to killing animals for food as a sin. Now, some dumb hick out in the woods killing an animal because it makes him feel like a man...That's different. Frankly I think that hunting for sport is one of the most ignorant and cruel things imaginable.

  • That's about the most legitimate argument for the killing of animals I've ever heard.

  • @snapura We celebrate hunting as a 'fun' social event. But if a butcher had 'fun' slaughtering a cow at work, he'd probably lose his job and get a good psych evaluation to be sure he's not a serial killer in waiting. A child bathing in deer blood gets his or her pic in the paper as a reward; a child bathing in cat or dog blood gets their pic in the paper under Psycho News. There's truly a fine (and arbitrary) line here, and I'm not too sure it's so easy for many folks to make that distinction.

  • @snapura I would assume hunting makes it easier to bridge the gap from killing 'acceptable' animals to killing 'unacceptable' animals, and possibly, finally, humans. If it's so much fun to hunt and kill something like a squirrel, imagine how much more exciting it would be to go after something on one's own level. Makes you wonder how many murderers were desensitized to death and led to crave 'tougher' prey from having a 'hunter mindset' instilled at an early age. Ignorant, cruel, and dangerous.

  • I watched the HBO movie the other night and decided to read more about her. She's an amazing person, not only for work accomplished in the animal industry but for understanding autism as well. I wish her the very best of life and hope her word continues to help families learn how to help their children with autism.

  • What an amazing life! Our world is a better place for the work of Temple Grandin.

  • As an over 50 Engineer who was born pre-mature a lot of her theories just click to describe the outcome of some pre-mature babies.. exactly. Doctors just don't have a clue as I always suspected biology was the culprit. Bingo.

  • Jews have always slaughtered animals in the most human way.

  • Interestingly, it's probably in big part because she's so focused and unemotional that she managed to block out the taunts and doubts of her colleagues. A more emotional person might have been broken by the initial harrassment. Awesome!!

  • This is amazing and it just proves that there is a use for every type of brain.

  • "look at them go for my hat!" lol

  • First, I'd like to thank Dr. Grandin for working so hard in the livestock industry. She has helped us to better understand how and why an animal reacts the way they do in certian situations. Ranchers take the proven facts and apply that to their work. Which leads me to my response to all you vegans. It is amazing how uninformed you people are. Everyone has an opinion, but it's an uninformed opinion. Everyone of you people reap the benefits of Agriculture everyday, one way or another.

  • She is an amazing women. I'm glad the world has learned from her.

  • Thank you Angel for this post - there's a hollywood movie coming out about Temple but I think that this doc will be better.

  • I absolutely respect Temple Grandin but I so had to fastforward the parts about the cows.

  • In Islam, there's hadith from the Prophet(PBUH) he said that if you must kill do it humanely (paraphrasing), basically when a cow for example get's slaughtered it should be quick and painless and an animal should NOT be slaughtered in front of another animal, in this vid it seems that they(the cows) didn't see the cow in front of them get slaughtered, this much more humane than they used to but I'm still against factory farming. I'm also against neutering and gelding, vasectomy is more humane.
