Now she didn't have perfect control over her opponent, but many Judo throws are intended for their opponent to land on their face/head, just like the Gracie vs. Kimura fight. And in fight situations you normally dont have a stationary enough opponent for stable control.

@jossbsure If this was the case, why did Kimura in an interview complain that the surface he fought Gracie on was too soft, and could not knock him out through his throws, and thus resulted in a key lock to finish his opponent (obviously giving the japanese name for the key lock)? I doubt any of us are more of a master of it than Kimura.

That is a move you learn in military hand to hand fighting. Army hand to hand fighting in a mix of Brazilian Judo, and some other moves and is NOT used to beat someone, it is meant to kill within a few seconds, like a open hand flat strike against the throat between your thumb and index finger and other things. That move would be to break a neck although she didn't mean to do it....I am sure she broke her neck and may have paralyzed her
@rrussell39 nah, the drop seio rarely results in a KO. This move is used in military training but it comes from judo. This fighter didnt go to a mcdojo with a guy teaching "secret navy seal ninja stuff." She did a great double knee drop seoinage.. and it worked. You learn that as a brown belt. It usually doesn't work out because a good opponent will spin out or take the fall. But this broad got put to sleep. Other tall tales are just Rex Kwan Do.

Me too man, I have known how to fall correctly all my life in judo and I have been arm thrown many times with no bad injuries but there was this one dude I was going against just for fun who was larger than me and a state champion wrestler (oklahoma) as soon as we started fighting over grips he came in FAST and firemans carried me from a standing position and slammed me dead on my face.. thank god we had the mats out lol

@scumimpaler It's a great technique. A lot of judo guys in mma miss the point of judo throws. They use it against BJJ guys to get it to the mat ! lol.... but they should be trying to hurt them with the throw. That's the point ! But in competition and in randori, ppl brainwash themselves and develop safe throws. in the dojo, be reasonably safe but dont sterilize an effective style.

And it is obvious for Jigoro Kano wanted judo to be a humanistic art, not as destroying as Jiu-jutsu was. So "the demon of killing" only "sleeps" in judo, it's not hard to awake it.
@scumimpaler No, I totally agree. After freestyle&folkstyle wrestling I wanted to find something more street efficient. That brought me to Prof.Wally's door, a 10th degree (judan) in jujitsu. His style, Small circle JJ, varied on the submissions, but the throws were all original koryu. They were all nasty, all of them snapped a knee ligament, or a neck, or an elbow, finger, etc.. After 2 years of that (and a lil aikido) I quit and began to train judo and Gracie JJ. Very different.
@KeyboardPacifist I practice Gracie JJ too now :) (with classical boxing - but still basic level...) After few years of testing various things, even like army combat systems or krav maga, I find mixture of BJJ & boxing to be sufficient street preparation for me. I learned to respect judo guys, wrestlers and other sport fighters way more than "krav maga spec ops warriors" or "mystical monk guardians of the 7 secrets of shitting dragon" but this is another story... I had no respect for grappling. but I loved swimming... and I wanted to get in shape to make the varsity swim team, so I thought that joining wrestling would force me to trim down. lol. It did. And I loved it. That was in 1995 and I've been training submissions since 1997. I still get in the ring with the M.Thai guys & put the gloves on. But I only compete in judo and bjj now

megumi yabushita is a vet. it's questionable if the opponent (the korean girl who got slammed) was even up to the same level. She did some well executed judo maneuver. Just goes to show how deadly the art really is.
That move shouldn't be legal. The momentum and leverage points inevitably will land your opponents face first in a neck crank. Very dangerous move. Take it from someone who was partially paralyzed for several months after being thrown like that in an auto accident.

I learned to respect judo guys, wrestlers and other sport fighters way more than "krav maga spec ops warriors" or "mystical monk guardians of the 7 secrets of shitting dragon" but this is another story... @scumimpaler Right on. Yeah.... I grew up practicing W.Chun, Kajukenpo and doing point matches and kickboxing. I had no respect for grappling. but I loved swimming... and I wanted to get in shape to make the varsity swim team, so I thought that joining wrestling would force me to trim down. lol. It did. And I loved it. That was in 1995 and I've been training submissions since 1997. I still get in the ring with the M.Thai guys & put the gloves on. But I only compete in judo and bjj now

@Mduenisch haha, no :) Im a cage fighter, try to use ur judo. THE ONLY thing u cna use it a couple of throws which is also insanely hard to get to use, its close to 1% usage in Judo. Bull#¤%& Martial art.

That move shouldn't be legal. The momentum and leverage points inevitably will land your opponents face first in a neck crank. Very dangerous move. Take it from someone who was partially paralyzed for several months after being thrown like that in an auto accident.
