The blind is part of a research site; the chickens can come right up to the blind; they sometimes roost on the roof while others are being observed out front. Probably the best I can do to answer you question is an estimate of about 15-20 feet from the blind to the A3 stake in the video.
I have studied about the fowl in class but have never seen them in the wild like this. Sure makes me want to take a road trip. Maybe I will be able to learn how to dance after all.
Yes, they are in the wild. However, at least some of the males have been captured, marked with a color coding system and released. The stakes mark positions on the courting area.
With this kind of system, observations can be made and recorded as to which males are dominant, if certain ones continually occupy a given place in the courting area, and other things of interst to the researchers.
How much did you zoom in on them? How close was the blind to the chickens?

This lek is on private land -- on a research station that does provide limited access to groups during the mating season.
