  • Mein uncle walter

    Oh das ist sier lustig

  • @DrunkenCoward1

    except that's Micheal Palin singing...

  • just a little translation error... 3:03 he says "Onkel Walter" which means, "uncle Walther" not "dear Papa." there were couple other errors too... 0:08 0:29 0:43 0:51 1:15 2:16 2:30 (not including repeats)... just saying...

  • @hrolvnir

I'll tell you why there are so called "errors" cause those are the original lyrics in the english version. Literal translations would be stupid, because they wouldn't rhyme.

And the guy singing is John Cleese, who doesn't actually speak a word of german but just says what he has to say.

  • @DrunkenCoward1 thats true... rhyming and lyrical value would be much more important than literal translation of the original text.

  • "So wie mein Onkel Walter!"

    Well, I wasn't expecting that.

  • Was this part of the actual show?

  • Comment removed

  • lol what?hahaha

  • My german teacher thought this was too inappropriate to show in school.

  • @DanM25456 xDD Haha, oh mein Gott ^^

  • @DanM25456 how old are you?

  • @Shirayuki619xYuuki I'm a junior in high school.

  • @DanM25456 maybe she's like "this song 18+!"

  • 52 Menschen sind transsexuelle Holzfäller.

    --

    52 people are transsexual Lumberjacks.

  • the anthem to the SS pine division :P

  • now make them say the funniest joke in the world

  • lol sounds like a christmas carol

  • am i the only who heard Kaffee instead of Tee (coffee and tea)

  • @0987654154

They do sing "Kaffee" (coffee), but whoever subtitled this just took the lyrics of the original version, without considering that this version mocks german people and so has some lyrics changed to fit more to german culture. The stereotype-german consumes way more coffee than tea. So that is why this lumberjack e.g. has cookies for coffee instead of buttered scones for tea.

  • Holocaust? What Holocaust? Canadians are just too darned nice to get involved with genocide. Well, so far, anyhow ...

  • This proves the Germans just aren't funny. Canadians, on the other hand ...

  • @universalsailor Wow, and here I thought we proved that with the holocaust :0

  • What a bunch of douche bags singing.....lol

  • Love the letter in this version! XD "Only 70 %" indeed.

  • Ihre Mutter saugt Schwänze in der Hölle

  • I think I might use the name Franz for German Class because of this. So then all the girls can go "Ach, Franz! Und ich hab du war so Maennlich gedacht!"

  • I think that this might actually be funnier than the original English version... and Michael Palin's German is exquisitely hilarious.

  • @yiotispan I actually once made a comment of this nature on this very same video, and it's good to see someone else who sees it this way. And it's not just being funnier that makes it better either.

  • Just like mein Uncle Walter.

  • Yes, Think Silent Night. What we sing in the english version is not the same as the german version. It is a translation to "fit".

  • lol

  • @Bonzenpunk lol, you are funny. I can only understand first sentence, but still.

  • I think I peed my pants. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA

  • I think Monty Python should print this page out - with all these pompous, pseudo-"scholarly" comments missing the point completely, it's at least as good as the "letter" at the end of the performance! The South Tyrol is in modern Italy, so maybe this is actually in Italian!

  • You are right, it's not Eric Idle (although he did sing it recorded and live on many occasions) the one in this video clip is Michael Palin! lol!

  • well i dont care if the translation isnt right, i'm just well impressed that Eric Idle managed to learn and sing it in a foreign language! i wonder how many other languages they did it in........

  • @fatg1t I think that's actually Michael Palin ;)

  • @fatg1t that's not eric idle :P

  • They speak French and German in Switzerland don't they?

  • @thejoechapman1

    and italian

  • its not translated, its the original text in the subbtitles

  • Feel free to think so, but I am a native speaker, and really know the german language.

"onkel valter" doesnt exist in our language.

    Sorry for destroying your illusions...

  • @apocalyptica1996 OK, apparently they don't understand "sarcasm" in your country. It was a joke. See it was funny because onkel valter ISN'T german for "pappa". so I don't think you need to ever watch monty python again, as you obviously are ignorant to the caliber of humor involved. Maybe you should stick to "Beavis and butt-head". :) again, sarcasm....look it up.....

  • @larsjake I must have hit you really hard with my post, for that amount of text....

Of course I am not a perfect english writer, because I am NOT a native speaker.

But telling me which kind of humor I should watch or laugh to..... who are you to tell me what to do?

Btw.... I love "Life of Brian" and "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" - why should I stop laughing about these?

  • @apocalyptica1996 Again, we come back to sarcasm. Seriously, are you this dense?

  • @larsjake Maybe there are small differences between sarcasm and arrogance. And maybe we think different about these. Your sense of humor is just funny for you, my friend. Lets stop spamming this video, this doesn't make any sense.

  • @apocalyptica1996 LOL you still don't get it. Ok no problem.

  • @apocalyptica1996 It is also "allusions" not "illusions". stick to basic english and I wont sprechen sie deutsch you LOL.

  • @apocalyptica1996

  • It's not a perfect translation, but the lyrics of the original version. Directly translating a song from one language to the other isn't simple, so modifications have to be made.

  • Am Mittwoch geh ich shopping :D

  • i lol'd

  • nope this is german

  • Aw, if you grew up with it, it's hilarious still. One of Mom's silly anthems from back in the day. Danke, Auswerfer--and everyone else: quit bashing it.

  • Are those German Mounties (Canadian?)?

  • i suppose the more "Viril" nazis would really like this!! bauahaha! jah! schutz Fritz und Obergruppen Fuhrer Hans! buahaha!

  • I love how slow this is. they're trying so hard to enunciate properly.

  • I have to say, the translation sucks really hard, I bet the person who translated this was either drunk or didn't speak any german. Srsly.

  • @apocalyptica1996 It has to rhyme. A literal translation wouldn't be useful in this context.

  • @Auswerfer "Sudtirol".

  • @apocalyptica1996 Haha you are worng, onkel valter is the german word for papa LOL

  • Comment removed

  • So what are they actually saying?

  • @apocalyptica1996

It's not a translation of the German lyrics - they used the original version of the lyrics for the subtitles.

  • @apocalyptica1996

relax!! Relax!! This is Monthy Python Humor. Do not...i repeat..do not expect "Goethe Institut"!!

    wirth regards from

Johan Gambelputt de von Auswern, etc. etc.

  • @apocalyptica1996 I remember that there's a better translation in the german version of "And now for something completely different".

  • @apocalyptica1996 ther is an english version of this song its that text and i know it is ofc nt the same as the german lyrics

  • "So be mine uncle valter" 1:54

  • wo zur hölle kommt das denn her? das is ja genial :D

  • HEINRICH VON WALLABY (MRS). I almost choked on my own tongue laughing!

  • Why in the name of God is the Nazi National Anthem in this video's related suggestions..

  • @GeneralBurkhalter1 lol 2 million ppl looked at it sounds coool lol :D

  • Hahaha...

  • to rhyme with "halter" (bra)

  • @NYer79 yeah, I understand now

  • the translation was quite interesting at points (how does Papa mean Onkel Walter?), but funny all the same

  • its a little lost in translation...

  • Für alle Retro-Fans:Diesen Song findet Ihr auch als Untermalung für das C64 Spiel World Games zu der Disziplin Baumstammlaufen.

  • the first comment was just a joke

  • @MegaKlaus88

  • its better in german! :D

  • rofl. awesome. xD

  • Na sowas.....

  • wie geil! Michael, du hast meinen respekt fürs deutschsprechen!

  • Onkel walter?

  • @xplatinumfaerie

of course, its walter, from "achmed the dead terrorist" by Jeff Dunham!

    he's still alive and laughing!

    ;-))

  • uncle walter?

  • @AlchemicGnosis

    Come back when you're funny.

  • gorgeous gal by his side

  • Dont you just love how its all normal and then theres a platon of nazziz XD

  • @XxqazplmxX Nazi uniforms are brown

  • @golfersamy91 Erm... those are supposed to be Bavarian police uniforms you moron bastard...

  • @XxqazplmxX

actualy they re just ordinary police men...

  • great, i love them, thank you

  • That letter at the end just about knocked me out of the chair!!! :-)

  • @goldcoastlawyer Oh shush, you nob!

If you don't like it, take it up with Python. Germany didn't force them to do this, they wanted to and, for what it's worth, it's really good!

Germans are fantastic people, anyway. Some of my favourite people on the planet and I'm saying that as a Brit. Beautiful country and great people. Maybe you still have an antiquated view of the Germans in America, I dunno but I have a feeling that what ever your opinion is, it's wrong.

  • Maybe you're upset because you've been outed, GoldCoastLawyer, or should I say... UNCLE WALTER!?!?

  • he is originally singing: "just like my dear mama"

  • @omap1997 I thought he said uncle walter? O.o

  • @xFallenAngel75 Correct! Onkel Walter!

  • @omap1997 Mama for TV, then they changed it to the funnier "Papa" but here, for reasons of rhyme, it's Onkel (uncle) Walter. Maybe, if they had prolonged the word Vater, it could have worked, but I reckon Uncle Walter's funny. Great name to use and the thought of it being an uncle, a family member but a little more distant and unknown than a father, makes it seem that little more seedy and suspicious.

  • @Triplesod

well, i had two gay uncles, none of them was a trans, one was in the Army, the other Air Force, never seen them with something else than a uniform.

  • @vaxiawval Nice 4 U then?

  • that isnt german it is swiss

  • @123uhuhu321

No, absolutely not Switz, no Switz accent at all (it's typical and easily identifiable) and South Tyrol is in Italy. Anyway, they have no Tyrolean accent too, it's pretty standard German.

  • @vaxiawval no it isnt german, im german and it is switzerdütsch with a little accent from the netherlands

  • @123uhuhu321

no its german with an english accent

  • @123uhuhu321 nonsense.

  • @Auswerfer

Swiss German is Germany anyway... This is NOT Swiss German however

  • @Auswerfer

There is no such thing as "Swiss".. There's Swiss German, which is still German, but this is NOT Swiss German, it's just high German with a strong British accent =)

  • @Auswerfer swiss german is different than regular german

  • @cctc11891 I know. So what? This isn't swiss-german, but german with a strong british accent.

  • @Auswerfer shut up this is clearly russian with a hint of japanese

  • @Auswerfer Südtirol belongs to italy, not Switzerland

  • @vornam George

South Tyrol is part of Italy, but it belongs to Austria. If Mussolini had had his way, it would be entirely Italian speaking today.

  • @Auswerfer with a awful british accent.

  • @123uhuhu321

    Er sagt: Südtirol!

  • @MoneBohne Also Italienisch :D

  • @123uhuhu321

Stimmt eigentlich.

  • @123uhuhu321

There is no language called Swiss, but I guess you refer to Swiss german dialect or language (there is also French and Italian). This is not Swiss German, it is pretty much standard german with a slight austro-bavarian influence (I guess because they want to be Bavarian in that sketch).

Btw. I think it is a a very good translation.

  • @123uhuhu321

ä chum dü aff.. XD nein das ist Tirolerisch .. östereichisch nicht schweizerdeutsch

  • @123uhuhu321 sorry but this is definitely NOT swiss german...

  • @123uhuhu321

but you do know that they speak a german accent in switzerland? and by the way he mentions that he is in tirol in his song. tirol is a part of austria and not switzerland.

  • @123uhuhu321 swiss isnt a language, the difference is comparable to the english dialect I speak here in new mexico, and probably the english dialect they speak in Canada

  • @123uhuhu321 are you kidding me?? this is german...

  • löl so geil xD

  • 9.9 German version of Monty Python?!

  • The subtitles are not actually always what they are singing. They are just the original English lyrics.

  • @littlebitbritish You are wrong.

  • @Bleenderhead

No, he is not, and as it seems you don't actually speak a word of german. Otherwise you would have noticed.

  • The woman is fine!

    ZING-N, ZING-N, ZING-N

    I love German.

  • -facepalm- =x='

  • too slow...

  • better in german than english!!!!!!!!!

Man muss Monty P.s Humor natürlich lieben. Ich tue es. Great!!

  • Dieses Lied ist so komisch!

  • Jaaaa!

My children are about to learn british English FIRST!!! :-P

  • @heartbreakerGeorge My ex girlfriend (from Mecklanberg) used to get really annoyed that German kids today learnt American English before British English :-)

I can understand though, UK is just a little island one more, our days of being an important nation are long gone and the Yanks have well taken over. It is nice to hear Continental Europeans speaking with English pronunciation instead of American, though.

    Good luck to your kids!

  • "I also knew two weightlifters who dressed as kangaroos and then performed intimate acts on a trampoline."

Imagine the Monty Python cast writing this and reading it to each other.

  • Lovecraft didn't make this, but I definitely lost sanity.

    Cthulhu f'taghn

  • even creepier...
