  • 'The Celtic Fringe: Westminster Elections In Scotland And Wales, 1970-2010, A Complete Record' by Grant Toway is now available on Amazon. At first glance, this book may seem to be primarily a statistical guide to the 1,200+ constituency contests in Scotland and Wales covering the last four decades, but there are also brief comments which accompany each and every result. The author has also compiled a number of appendices as well as providing his own commentary on the unfolding events.

  • This brought back many memories of my early years, my maternal grandparents lived behind/above a shoe shop on the old square I think it was" Mortons" opposite the war memorial, on remembrance Sunday I would be sat on a small balcony overlooking the cenotaph and observe the service and the march past. I got my first pair of jeans from an army/navy store at the bottom of the street below the "Dee" public house, the last time I was there it was a taxi office, I could go on and on!!!

  • Flint michigan? wut

  • what school did everyone go to in flint i go st richard qwyn

  • Something tells me that Flint, North Whales has allot more in common with Flint, Michigan than just a name. Our Flint, Mi. is a very troubled place. Many who have worked and lived there work and live there no more. I've seen your Flint, North Whales in Pictures, beautiful and rich in history, Now come an look at our Flint. Just type Flint, Michigan, your namesake in America.

  • Wonderful and moving

  • Such a monument of history...

    Seems time keeps repeating itselves..

  • I'm off Flint. What a fantastic montage of pictures. Left Flint over 20 years ago, still miss it but will come home when I retire.

  • Moving. My Grandfather Jack Abbott worked at the Castle Works, (eventually as a foreman). Like many of his co-workers, he did not make retirement age. It was great to see the inside photographs of the Works. I remember smelling Courtaulds in Bala, en route to see Grandma and Grandpa! He and she had worked at other Courtaulds plants on Deeside, but she was forced to give up work there the day she married Jack. The union used to encourage workers to prepare for strikes by growing vegetables.

  • CONTD. Jack and best friend found a steam-roller at the roadside one night (in 'light steam') and thought it would be good to get up steam and drive. They would have been teenagers. Not exactly a fast getaway vehicle; arrested, they were brought before the magistrates and offered 'Borstal or the Army?' He chose 'Army' a mistake he regretted. However: ORDERED to try and land a punch on the PE instructor (Tank Reg.) he KO'd him. Instructor delighted. Became Champion, Army of the Rhine.

  • CONTD. AGAIN! On return to civies (Courtaulds, probably in Holywell) Jack and his friend, still loyal to each other, issued a warning to any worker bringing bribes to work (in order to bribe the foremen and so keep their jobs in the Hungry Thirties). He said they'd Stop and Search workers the following Monday shift and 'transmogrify' anyone caught carrying gifts. His boxing training gave him the courage to do this, says Mam. Eventually the tide turned in favour of the union. Thank goodness.

  • CONTD. Grandad's friend as a young man was Ted Price... says Mam. The steam roller incident was slightly different to as recounted above. His mother (my Great Grandmother) had talked with a lawyer who said that he'd be fined £5:00 by the magistrates so he'd better join the army, as this would mean he would avoid the magistrates altogether... Five pounds that she could not afford to pay in any case. It was the Tank Corps and he was a driver, she adds.

  • Off Flint! Now in California, want to come back.

  • Haha, I am front Flint, Michigan. I must say I was really confused for a while, until I realized that this wasn't my town ;)

  • Very good video of another Flint across the world. This is Flint in the UK not the USA in the state of Michigan. Don't be confused. The smaller cars in the pictures give this away. Flint Michigan residnets drove long full size cars.
