@elparoma The Northwest and Eastern boundaries are especially interesting as they run along Black Creek. Check the SJRWMD(dot)com website for a list of properties managed by the St. Johns River Water Management District.
I'll be headed there tomorrow for a backpacking overnighter at the primitive site... This is gleaned from your great video. Never knew about the place till you said something about it. I'll be making a video that I'll share with you next week.
Remarkable sunny day - what a beautiful hike! And the birds again - I do enjoy hearing the birds that accompany you. That hat - you are styling Jim! Thanks again for sharing the sights and sounds.
@wawhiker As I told someone else, I saw this day coming in the forecast and made a point of doing this outing. It’s pretty unusual for us to have a low humidity, cool day this time of the year, i.e. our forecast for the next 3 days in the 90’s. I really appreciate the singing of the birds. It’s almost like I tune in to it :-) Thanks for watching
@medicjimr Funny you say that. We have mostly pine tress and palmettos in this area, which makes it green most of the year. Guess I don’t even notice.
@muddog1561 Definitely a fall/winter/early spring item. Too hot and buggy here in the summer. According to the online map it's aprox. 2-1/4 miles from the parking area to the campsite.
Thanks for the hike Jim. I really like the zoom on that camera. Also very relaxing with music ~softly~ in background, and hearing the ambient sounds... including your walking on, I'm assuming leaves on ground? Pretty cool ranger to give you spiral notebook w/maps :)
@ez2curanut The Canon SX130-IS has a 12x optical zoom with a 4x digital zoom. I don't usually use the digital zoom because as you know, it degrades the images too fast although this camera holds up pretty well out to about 20x. The video just needed something additional cause it was boring w/o it. Thought a non-descript audio would work. The book is great, nice item to have. The ranger said the SJRWMD covers 19 counties.
What an awesome day! Perfect temps :o) Very nice area for a hike Jim. Looked like a good spot for hangin' there ;o) I like the hat too :o) I need to start wearing something similar for better ear protection.
A "10 day" for sure! What a gorgeous day for a hike, and in such a beautiful location too. That camera of yours really shows the natural colors very well! Too bad about missing that whitetail on video... at least you got to see him though. Very nice campsite there as well... I'd say they do a great job at taking care of the land over there, which is always nice for us all. Excellent video and trip my friend... thanks for taking us along :-)
@intenseangler The weather was pretty unusual for this time of year in Florida. I saw it coming in the forecast and made a point of getting out. I wanted to upload in HD but the file size was just too large for me.
Beautiful hike. Loved the motion of filming as you walked through the area. Gives you a real feel for the place. Thanks for the introduction to another great spot of land. I'm glad you found it. That ravine interests me, and makes me wonder what it drains from and into and what, and whats it like at the bottom? Thanks for the walk. Best to ya.
@rainbowhiker I have added the SJRWMD property description to this videos description. The ravines are caused by spring seepage. Also see the 2:30 timeline mark in my video “Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park, Keystone Heights, Florida.wmv”
I like that hat! Thanks for the walk, beautiful area there; apparently with a huge potential for some orienteering practice or for building labyrinths.
Btw this video has the p+t length: one pizza and a cup of tea - just fitted like a glove to me.
@steintanz Yes, I found a few trails that were not on the "official" trail map. It will be interesting to build my own trail map :-) When I first finished the video it was almost 20 minutes long, tooooo long. I managed to cut it down to 13:30 and then felt it was not worth splitting into two parts. Glad you time to eat :-))
Have been living in the area now for 6 years and have never ... Gone in.. After watching your video, I will!!

This is someplace I've been wanting to go and backpack to the camp. This fall or winter I'll make it out there.

Great video Jim, such a beautiful walk. I'd love to spend some time in that camp. I see you have the same trouble with lists that I have. LOL

@DrunknShooter I don't have any problem making lists, I just don't always bother to check them :-))
