Mt. Mitchell today is very open, but when Elisha Mitchell first explored it, in the early 1800s, he said he had to crawl through Rhododendron thicket bear trails on his hands and knees to reach the top. He also had to climb up into a large conifer to see off the mountain, it was so thick with spruce and fir. I've got video shot there 20 years ago around May 9 - over three feet of snow fell in one storm. Pretty amazing for a place in the deep south. In 1985 (?), the temp up top fell to 35 BELOW.
There are a couple of falls in NC called Bridal Veil, one in DuPont Forest and one near Highlands on U.S. 64. Both are nice, but the one in Highlands kind of dries up in the Summer. Look at my channel page to see links to pictures.
Woah awesome vid. pserpas, you should make more NC videos, they are the best!
