  • amazing piece by Genesis, great work!

  • Is that the stock rack your using?

  • @SilverChevy2008 It is indeed.

  • wauw you are amazing!

I was wondering, it would be great if you can cover The Knife!

  • @gamesfrome Thank you, you are very kind!

The Knife is not one I have ever tackled - I find that early stuff frighteningly complex and busy and fast: Phil was in his prime as a drummer and showing off all the time! I am not sure if I can play any of that stuff :-)

  • @jouxplan hahaha, Ye i know Phil was one of the best in his time xD I was just wondering :P Ive been watching your cover for like 6 times now, thinking wauw I wish I could do that :\ I guess I will have to practise some more haha :P

  • Whaooo bellissimo, bravo bravo bravo.

    Merry Christmas.

  • @Staruan I thank you!

    Merry Christmas to you too!

  • Hi, did you isolate one of the tracks from the 5.1 miz to play along? It sounds as if there's no drum at all under your (wonderful IMHO) drumming :)

  • @GabrielFox91 Ha! Ha! Ha! That is one hell of a compliment, as it happens - thank you! No, I have not isolated one of the tracks. I have just recorded my drums 'on top' of the original Three Sides Live track. Three reasons it sounds 'good' - (1) I spent a lot of time creating a similar drum kit as Chester on my Roland; (2) I spent a lot of time creating a balanced mix between my drums and original and (3) I spent a hell of a lot of time trying to learn to play it note for note. I must be close!

  • Of course, your´re right. My comment belongs to another video- as you sayed!! Sorry for that, I don´t know why it has been coming up to this video.

I talked about Turn it on again - This is One for the Vine - and this one is very good! Go on... an sorry for my mistake

  • a good job! But.. the bassdrum ist not strictly straight on the quarters! hear the song again... thre are doubles inside!! And yes, ist 13/4 !! you played it right - inthis last bar with 5/4 , there are doubles with the bass drum... heard it? its not so difficult. More training needs Chesters breakes over 5/4 !!

Try to play sticks - this gives you more rebound an speed. But I think its´s a problem of loudness at your home.. or are there other reasons, cause you just play Flicsticks?

  • @MrDoubleBass100 Forgive me, but I don't follow what you are saying. It is almost as if you are talking about the first video I did of this, two years ago. That one did not have double bass at the end, and that one had Flix Stix, and that one had a number of errors.

This version, which I recorded on behalf of iGenesis for their latest video, is however very, very close to the original, and I am proud of it - very proud of it, actually. Your comment is difficult to follow and understand.

  • As usual Alex... excellent job Thank you!

  • This kit sounds awesome. Could you "tune" the first tom ( from left to right from your position) so it sound like Phil,s on the WCD tour in 1992?

Check out the drum duet from that tour. It has a "barking" sound

  • @mulleops I guess so - though I have purposely tuned it to sound a little like a Three Sides Live high tom, given this version of Vine is from that tour! And don't forget that I have to actually create a hybrid of Chester and Phil's kits, since I tend to play bits of both parts :-)

I'll check out what you mean though, for sure. I am constantly tweaking my tuning for these vids.

  • The head are you doing !!!! lol

  • You are great! I love your job, really. I aslo try to play correctly genesis stuff, and this one is really hard, its sond simple but its tricky. I think i am a big fan f genesis as much as you are, maybe someday we wll even play together some drum duet of Phil and Chester ;)

  • If you could play some day Mad Man Moon by Genesis, it's my favorite son from them

  • @goldwing1964 Hmmmmm - not one I have ever studied. We'll see!

  • Great drumming as usual how about Get em out by Friday and Can Utility and the Coastliners. I am in agreement with you the last real Genesis album was Wind and Wuthering

  • @andypealing Cheers!

Get 'em out by Friday is on a to do list, though I must confess to struggling with the opening tricky bit - Phil playing something awkward as usual on the early stuff! Not sure about Can Utility! I can't quite recall but I think Get em out is on the long list of future iGenesis projects :-)

  • Thanks as always Alex. Solid. My favorite version of Vine as well. Of all the tribute bands I have heard I am most excited about the completed iGenesis Project. The concept is outstanding and from the Blood and Fifth videos you guys are well on your way. I hope Afterglow and Cinema Show are in your future...By the way, I miss your colorful sticks now that you have gone electronic! Air drumming with you here in Oregon USA.

  • @bkbeban Wow, that is very high praise (igenesis). I am almost speechless and very humbled. I'll be sure to pass your comment on to the rest of the band, thank you so much. It is taking a huge amount of work by everyone, especially Cyrus, but comments like yours make it so worthwhile.

Cinema Show - yes. Have a loom at igenesis channel for full list of proposals! Flix sticks :-)

Vine is still being worked on by Cyrus - probably still four weeks away yet I am afraid.

    Cheers!

  • One more time: Thanks for making this wonderful, this very musical and very tasty drumming visible.Well done, body, respect where respect is due... (Fading lights??? ;o)

  • @jenschristof123 Hey, thank you! Fading Lights? Not on my radar at present - I've never really studied it. One day, maybe, if I ever have time :-)

  • @jouxplan - It's an interesting forum to make band submissions, but Ron actually did vocals for Fading Lights a couple of weeks ago :-)

  • @cyrusrua Damn it all man! Now I got you of all people asking me to do Fading Lights!

Ok, I will do Fading Lights for you, after we have had a small discussion about Ripples :-)

    Ho! Ho! Ho!

  • Fantastic! I really enjoyed this and can't wait to see the final production.

You'd better let your space hopper in now... I think he wants his dinner.

  • @GrayhenTor Hello my friend and fellow igenesis musician! Glad you enjoyed this!

Yes, I guess Mr. Hopper ought to be let in: his Supper's Ready :-)

  • Very very neat work Alex. You nailed those fills, your playing is just practically indiscernible from the real guys. Kudos again, it's going to be another long wait to see the iGenesis video!

  • @hyperboreal Hello my friend! I am humbled - thank you!

I can report that Cyrus is working hard on it even as I write this. He is very keen to have it finished by early August, so that he can show me a world premier of Vine on his laptop when he and I actually meet face to face for the very first time on 8th August :-)

  • excellent playing very tight to the original to the point i can't hear the original parts

  • Loving the appearance of the space hopper in the window.

  • I drum to some easy stuff, but I would never take this on. Dang this was done outrageously well!

  • how come you switched to electronic drums? not hating just curious. seems like electronic drums are the way of the future because they sure are becoming more prevalent

  • @skate2332 Been seriously considering it for two years. Took the plunge last October. Reason? When I had a go two years ago on a top Roland kit, I was blown away at how good it is. Plus, it was a v-drum kit that actually looked sexy and almost 'real'. I wanted more control over my volume for the band, and to please neighbours :-) And I liked the idea of creating mulitple drum sounds / kits. Plus recording would be easier. Plus, why the hell not?

I love the kit - no regrets!

  • This is perfection! Great Work!

  • Showing off again, eh ??? Not the drumming, but the "Box Set" sitting there in the foreground :-)... I have to say, I've played with quite a few drummers who have switched from traditional to electronic drums (and I don't mean that brief stint in the mid 80's that I'm trying to forget)... You get some really authentic tones out of your kit.. and your playing??? Well, I've gone on and on about that... Kudos, and I can't hardly wait for the others to play "Catch up" with you. ;-) Cheers, Sean

  • @ScooterandSparky I simply thought it would be nice to have a 'Genesis' logo in shot!

See my answer to someone else below, but basically I have spent many hours creating my own 'user drum kit' that sounds like Phil's / Chester's. I call the kit 'Genesis' funnily enough :-) I am continually tweaking the sound, trying to get it better and better. Don't forget though that you can hear reverb and things from the original track, so that does mask (improve) my drum sound!

    Many thanks!

  • Absolutely fantastic Alex. Have been thoroughly enjoying everything you and the iGenesis guys have been doing. Can't wait to see and hear the finished video of this great track. BTW, have you had any feedback yet from any Genesis band members?

  • @HillcrestSpong Thank you!

Hopefully out early August - see my answer to someone else below :-)

Not that I am aware of! I think some of them are being pointed in our direction though.

If you have read my bio on the igenesis channel (there is a link next to some of the band member's names), you will see that I would rather like Chester to watch, and for him 'to be vaguely impressed'.

I've never wanted any of the band to see my attempts at these covers - until now - igenesis I am v proud of!

  • Superb... One for the Favourites

  • Super cover, these keep on getting better.

  • @cc6809 Much appreciated! I must say that since I started to record vids using my Roland kit, the quality of the recording has made things so much better than of old. The use of wooden sticks has clearly given everything more definition, and allowed me to, for example, do press roll which were not really possible with my lovely Flix sticks.

And frankly, the quality of the other guys in igenesis has been so high, that I felt I needed to raise my game, or risk losing my place as the drummer!

  • @cc6809 I ought to add that I am continually adusting the sound of the various drums / cymbals and reverb and eq and all the rest of it - so yes, you can clearly see an evolution in drum sound quality from Fly On A Windshield (brand new V-drums, stock drum kit sound), through Firth and then Vine, both of which now use my own custom made (user created) Roland sounds.

  • good work jux another great performance love your work keep up the good work

  • Nice drummin' as usual and yes.... nice back-drop too !!

  • As always Alex... exceptional playing! I can't wait for the iGenesis video, and future videos from you! :D

  • @Korsfestelse Thank you!

We are trying very hard to get the igenesis Vine video complete by August 8th - I cannot say much, but let's just say that one or two members of igenesis are meeting up somewhere special, and we hope to have our first viewing of the video, in the few hours we have together :-)

Before anyone asks - no, we are not performing together!

  • Well well done, body. Very precise, excellent tribute to Chester and to the Genesis sound. Starting te become ediccted to more of your videos...

  • Love the background !!
