I think what people need to understand is that this movie wasn't intended for audiences that viewed the previous Pink Panther movies. This was a remake for newer generations. For those who'd never seen the previous ones, this movie is pretty hilarious. Peter Sellers was great in his movies, Steve Martin did a great job with these.
Atrocious film. Had the misfortune of watching this today. Steve Martin, a great comedy actor but just can't do Clouseau the way he was meant to be played. The comedy in this film is so forced, poorly acted and done with all the lack of subtlety you'd expect from Hollywood. Blake Edwards and Peter Sellers are quite literally turning in their graves.
