  • Anyone who has ever taken one of these down knows that all it is is a Glock with revamped ergonomics. The striker assembly is identical, except that the channel liner is white polymer. Ditto for the XD. The trigger assembly is identical. Anyone who thinks this is some revolutionary design is either a fool, or living in "Only buy American" denial. We all know how the Sigma story went.

  • o yea didnt see the glock get nominated

  • I have both pistols the desert warrior and the M&P 40 and the Kimber is obviously more accurate at long range. But PDs also shop by price and the Kimber warrior is a SOCOM pistol. So apples versus oranges is nuts. The M&P is a cop gun 4 inch for 25 yards or less. The Kimber is for 50 yards hence the longer barrel.

  • dude you can drop an Apex trigger kit into any M&P and turn it into a tac driving dream machine...some of these comments are ridiculous. I've seen a torture test of the M&P that rivals Chuck Taylor's legendary Glock tests. And guess what..the M&P put in some serious work with hardly a hiccup!!

Jump off the 1911 wagon for a bit..if the 1911 were still the very best semi-auto, it would have 100 Handgun of the Year awards.

Nothing wrong AT ALL with the M&P lmao..fanboys and their negative attitudes

  • ühm_ÄñYøNÉ_wåÑña_chÅt_wÍth_mE_Ï_fÊEl_sO_lÔñèly_t0ÐäY┌

  • i know many many SF members. they happen to roll almost exclusively with 1911s and sigs. i would never get an mp45. ever. why would i? there are loads of pistols that shoot better and have been around FAR longer that have stood the test of time.

  • just want to ask, is this gun of the year awards only exclusive to american made pistols?

  • its all .45 so i think the topic here should be on .45's only. ive heard this 2007 gun of the year had broken upper receiver rails or lower receiver rails. i just saw one in a picture.

  • nothing beats my 9mm HK P30. rocks good. :-)

  • @pkbjorn35 except for my HK p30s .40...rocks better ;-)

  • What are the feature of these three handguns stood out that they are chosen as handguns of the year?

  • After I put one round through your heat, "scumbag" is not gonna' care if its a 9mm, .45 or a .40

Shot placement and being able to hit your target are what counts. Plus another thing, if you do get into a shooting, are you going to be dumb enough to stand there and let this scumbag regroup and perhaps bring his buddies to help him. Your first priority in a gunfight is to GET AWAY FROM THE GUNFIRE.

  • love my m&p45 VERY good trigger, it almost seems to have delayed recoil, very easy to stay on target feels like i am shooting a 9mm almost i am so in love with it.

  • @famasdan how long have you had it? i've heard people talking about trigger problems on their own M&Ps. i was planning on purchasing one, but now i'm not so sure

  • I have a Kimber Ultra Crimson Carry II .45 and a S&W M&P .45 and in MY opinion the S&W is a nice weapon, but is not even near equal to the Kimber. But, if the M&P is in your price range, good chioce!

  • @zfunishere1 i dislike 1911's the bulk the feel, and its kindve liek a caveman design in my opinion.

  • I love this gun....

  • The kimber should have won it

  • sorry but now, it really depends on the holder......

  • I have a m&p .40 compact, very nice gun

  • The M&P is easily equal to the kimber, at way more reasonable price. One of the better handguns on the market, the other being the XD .45

  • Comment removed

  • totally agree

  • witch Kimber

  • what do you mean what happened to the 9's, the EMP and M&P come in 9mm, among other chamberings.

  • what happeneed to the nines????

  • wow i never knew there was a gun of the year show lol, they shud put like rocket launcher of the ear :P

  • I live in Illinois. I can't even carry a tune legally!

  • 1911s and all Auto's Jam sooner or later. I had not one but two autos jam on me during an emergency once. Never again! 357s Never, ever jam.

  • Wow. That must have sucked. You might consider cleaning your weapon. It's a radical concept, I know. :) I'm just kidding.

  • Your right. I carry a cz75, but revolver is the way to go for reliability.

  • You can have timing problems.

  • You should shoot revolvers (I assume you mean revolver...) more. -I've- had a revolver jam and while it's a lot more rare the difference is that usually the semi is back in action after a tap rap bang, the revolver (for a star jam like mine particularly) needs a ride to the gun hospital.

  • 357 what? Sig? Magnum? Revolver? Be specific man!

  • I like the M&P45. As much of a 1911 fanatic that I am, I will always have a place for the M&P .45. It's just a good shooter. The trigger is a bit of a downside, but with some training that will be a non issue. The M&P series has got to be my favorite Polymer type pistols.

  • 1911 PWNS 4life

  • Kimber won in 2002.

  • the spring field looked pretty awesome though

  • I'm kinda surprised the Kimber did not win

  • It is a good firearm though :)

  • lmao...your fckin kiddin me GUN OF THE YEAR lol..........dont get me wrong im not protesting about anything....is there an award for best assault rifle...just curious....

  • how did an M&P beat a sig p220, glock, XD, or any other much superior brands of semi auto handgun

  • Because the award goes to new guns and those aren't new guns... It would be pointless to award the same models every year wouldn't it?

  • I dont know..... I kind of do like that Kimber. Cost like $1100 but coudnt be a bad pick over the M&P

  • I've never fired an M & P but I have held them at shows and aside from the P226 I think its one of the comfortable pistols I've ever held. That being said I own a Glock 17C and probably won't ever purchase anything other than a Glock, Springfield, Kimber or Sig, having fired many models produced by all of them I can say those four companies make the best pistols available.

  • I bought a glock 23 from a tactical store. The new guns are usually cheaper there at Atlantic Tactical. I bought it with nightsights for $540. I didnt pick the C because I didnt like the porting. If you find a used 23 youll problably love it. Its highly accurate, loud, and kicks enough that you know that gun doesnt fuck around.

  • The porting doesn't bother me, but if I could buy it again I would get a 23C instead because it can be converted to a normal 23 without porting and 9mm if you buy aftermarket barrels. I also now carry concealed and I would rather have a .40 not to mention my 17 is big as hell.

  • How did it beat the others, it is a SMith. The Glock 23 is junk compared to the SMith .45. unless you like accidential discharges, and go ahead say it doesn't happen. Besides Nightsites are for weiners, if you need nightsights you shouldn't own a gun. In a real confrontation, you have fractions of a second to react, you have no time to aim with sights. Ask your law enforcement officers what they perfer, I will bet it is not the Glock. Glocks are for thugs, that don't know better.

  • I had an accidental discharge with my Beretta 92fs, It happens because your not paying attention or do something stupid it isn't the guns fault... We aren't hating on the M & P its a nice pistol.

  • Agreed, there is no such things as accidents, there is only negligence.

  • Hey teamasus, learn your shit and quit talking big. The police department near me just replaced their .40 Sig's with brand new Sig's of the same model, only difference is they have new fiber optic sights.

  • lol whats that nomination for? this handguns wasnt created in 2007 so they could nominated the h&k usp or m9 beretta

  • Horrible nominees are you serious no glock or hk or sig or beretta. And most people dont carry 1911s as their main gun most le use glocks and military uses the beretta m9.Does sw have the reliability or firepower or the accesories like a glock,my opinion but partialy right on some things

  • "Kimber or springfield should have won.. that S&W sucks! "

I'm not a fan of the M&P line but since when should a Kimber be considered for any award, unless it's the most over priced gun on the market? For $1k I'm buying a Dan Wesson, which is 3 times that of Kimber, but costs less. How does that business model work, Kimber?

The Kimber is the Lamborghini of the gun world. Ever checked the Lambo's service record? Kimber's is the same (horrible). High cost + Low Value = POS.

    Just my $0.02...

  • Kimber or springfield should have won.. that S&W sucks!

  • own one? They're great pistols and cheap too. Got it in 9mm :)

  • I really like my MP45 accurate no feeding problems. The mags are what I don't like you need a pry bar to load the 10th round. They really need to go back to the drawing board on the mags. Pistol great......mags not so great.

  • people keep talking about look and price and accessories...bottom line...you buy it for protection it better damned well fire no matter where you are or what you're doing and that reliability only comes from Glock

  • ..or Sig...lol

  • hmmm interesting my glock 17, after 1000 rounds four malfunctions, sold it. My M&P .45ACP Ive put over 3,000 rounds through and had zero failures not to mention outstanding accuracy, and recoil my 12 year old sister can easily handle. I suggest you pick one up and test it yourself. I trust my M&P with my life as it is now my primary home defense weapon. Theres a reason it won this award.

  • I bought an M&P .45 and I love it to death. I was also looking at the Glock 21SF when I bought it but what made me go with the M&P was that I liked the sights on it better and it had an offer for 2 free magazines. Plus I got it for $200 below MSRP.

  • New Glocks come with 2 mags in the box

  • that gun is a pos

  • I chose a M&P over a glock mostly becuase it flt really good shooting it. The Glock felt bulky. The grips on the M&P were much better for me. After two years I have never had a failure with this gun. It will shoot any ammo I feed it. I think I made a good choice for me.

  • For the money the s&w is the choice. It is somewhat innovative in the fact that it has interchangable rear strap grips to make it more comfortable if you have larger or smaller hands. The Kimber is a fine pistol, but try finding one for less than 1000 us dol. . The springfield is nice it is just a more compact 1911 framed pistol. The s&w cost about 650 retail and comes with 3 mags, and it has a higher capacity mag in a smaller pistol. Great if you carry it. 10 rounds 45acp the other 2 it is 7.

  • they paid for that award... nasty looking gun. kimber desert warrior too it....

  • I traded a Glock 21 for my M&P 45 no regrets, still got 2nd gen Glock 22, love Glock too. I even like it better than my 1911, well, make that just as much.

  • Hey! i build these guns lol

  • Apparently you can't be a handgun of the year without being a 1911 (or something insanely similar to one)..

    pretty weak.

  • What a stupid award show this is. Before you spout off I am a multi gun owner.

  • Huh?

It was ok. You are just being a hater. Don't hate - appreciate -congratulate!

  • deflate

  • pro-create.

  • I'm going to guess by your comments you sweep floors at the gun store or have an exclusive contract with Glock. If you look around at real experts opinions it is a well liked gun and well in case you didn't notice you posted on a video that shows the M&P as handgun of the year. I think I will take their opinion as well as my experience with both handguns to heart instead of a poorly posted comment by you.

  • tell em' like it is deworeg...

  • In the end it all come down to personal preference but my M&P I think has a better trigger than my xd 9mm and points much better than my glock 22 and apparently the experts aggree so go post praise on glocks vids since they are soo great in your mind...

  • To get back on topic I own a M&P and think it is an excellent gun. Mine's a .40 cal not the .45 but it still handles and shoots very well.

  • all modern pistols/guns are basically copies of each other with minor alterations and mods in different calibers.... funny but lucrative industry...

  • lol the internet. serious business.

  • yea id rather have a kimber but if your on a budget you realy cant beat $550 over a $1200 pistol.

  • i rather have the 1911 by kimber

  • Those are some nice guns! I have an airsoft version of the M&P :)

  • let me guess M&P .40 by KWC?

  • No, actually it was fully licenced from Smith & Wesson :)

  • yea there are trade marks on mine too :D

  • Does yours take gas and shoot out BB's??

  • I have shot my friends M&p9, and it is an amzingly excelent handgun. It is a great holster gun.

  • should have been the dersert eagle .50 cal

  • de have been around since like 2005 i think before

  • Obviously don't know crap about firearms do ya champ?

  • lol nope. i just know SOME because i play counter strike source.

  • lol counterstrike sucks ass, play something descent like kill zone 2 or somethin

  • y everyone tell me to look at kill zone 2.

  • Well, yeah. But i still favor the Colt. 45 ACP. I mean, is there anything more stylish then an Silverballer in ur bare Hand?

  • Thank god it wasn't a glock!

  • there doin it last nowa days im sorry to say

  • H&K USP!!

  • The semi-automatic from Korth is better then all of these

  • Wow. The worst of the three won.

  • Exactly! Politics in everything I guess.

  • Actually i've done allot of looking into the m&p and I really like them now. I have owned only glocks in the past. Right now a 21. I want a 9mm simply because the price of ammo and I think I am actually going to get one of these. Funny how things work out.

  • glock is still the best pistol ever made, but thats just my openion

  • What Glock?

  • yeah seriously, which one?

    Glock is a company

theres different guns made by Glock

but i'm sure you're referring to the very popular rapid automatic Glock 17/18 i forgot the number :\

  • there all good except the 357 sig my cousin had 1 and it jammed ALOT like 3 times on 2 clips and it was a brand new gun never been fired unless they fired it at the glock factory to make sure it worked. i myself favor the little G26

  • colt 1911a1, it has set the standard ever since.

  • this video makes guns look gay.

  • haha yea with that gay-ass music

  • the M&P line is a fairly good choice but because of the odd way it has to be field stripped (w/ a portable key to release the sear through open chamber), i'm gonna have to totally disagree w/ the choice of S&W getting this award. My vote will always go toward Sig Sauer, Glock & the Colt 1911's of yester-year.

  • While the above method is the "official" procedure for field stripping the M&P, the easier and quicker way is to pull the trigger after flipping the takedown lever and releasing the slide. This will allow the slide to move forward.

  • The M&P is not difficult to field strip at all. You can use a pen, knife or even your finger if you have to flip the sear release. I carry an M&P40 at work and its a very reliable and accurate gun. I trust my life to it. I still prefer a 1911(can't beat that trigger), but the M&P is a great defensive tool.

  • You may know this, but if you dont have the mag saftey on your M&P, you dont need to lever down the sear disconnect. all you have to do put down the take down lever then close the slide , then pull the trigger, the striker will push the slide foward. i have the full size 40cal and 45 i can take them both apart this way.

  • Flot2illa,

The sear disconnect is put there so you don't have to pull the trigger to dsiassemble the pistol. It was put there as a safety feature, as more than a few Glock owners have shot themselves trying to field strip their weapons.

  • @TattooedHoodlum Okay, but the slide has to be pulled back in order to pivot the take down lever. Besides those "Glock owners" weren't following the first rule of firearm ownership. They deserved to get shot. I have a Glock 23 and I never have the weapon pointed towards me when I pull the trigger.

  • Yep. My guess is that the ones who shoot themselves "cleaning" their Glock probably ought not have a gun in the first place. Or maybe it's just the Darwin Rule in effect.

  • Like Flot2illa said, if you don't know enough to UNLOAD your weapon before dissasembly, theb getting shot might just be the lesson you need.

  • @Letsmakeasamich Best name on youtube!lol

  • ooh hahaha i thought u said u carried around a MP40 at work i was gonna say....

  • I do, the company I work for issues M&P 40 pistols. It's a nice gun, the only thing I don't like is the trigger. It doesn't release as smooth as I'd like. If it was my gun I'd take it to a gunsmith for a trigger job.

  • massltca, I think he was referring to the MP40 German Submachine gun

  • Its okay, he works for the Postal Service.

    :)

  • Haha... yeah and I carry a M203 everytime I take a trip to the kitchen.

  • I believe that the best way of looking at it is this: ANY company, no matter who, releasing a new type of firearm, is going to have flaws in the design. If you get something proven, you can't go wrong. I'll keep my Glock, and every other gun I get my hands on that shoots as well as it feels.

Why pick just one, guys? You use the one that works best for you; everybody's different.

  • cmon springfied i love worth the money

  • I love my S&W M&P 40; not a whole lot of difference. Great weapon if you're undecided!!!

  • Ihr waffengeilen schweine XD

  • I think some handguns like USP and PX4 storm have better quality than M1911.

  • HAHAH LOLZ. Talk normal

  • My Dad owns a springfield 1911 that he got waaaaay back in the day when he was in the coast guard that is 30 years old at least its never jammed. I own a Springfield XD in S&W .40 its never jammed. My point? Springfield makes quality weapons. also IMO the M&P is terrible ive fired it the trigger pull is terrible i hate the break also it wasnt that accurate guess which pistol i think should have won...

  • Springfield is the way to go! I'm happy other people share my love for them!

  • "Springfield is the way to go! I'm happy other people share my love for them! "

I just purchased not long ago a Springfield 40 cal XD Subcompact. Love it, great little concealed carry weapon.

  • I may be able to solve this whole argument:

I own a Glock 21. I didn't buy it, it was a gift. My first handgun was a Taurus 7-shot .357 Mag revolver, because it's what I could afford. If I had enough to get a 1911, with enough left over for everything else like bills, etc; maybe I would get it, but I don't, so I can't.

My Glock puts its rounds where I want. No, it's not the most accurate thing out there, but for contact distance and in my house it'll end a threat just as well as any 1911.

  • Well said there Cleankill. I own a Glock 27, and a compact Kimber 1911. Of course my Kimber is more accurate. If I were shooting in a competition (which I don't do) I would shoot the Kimber. Which gun sits on my nightstand at night? My Glock. Which gun am I going to grab when shit hits the fan? My Glock. They each have their purpose. Personally I don't need to shoot tight groups at 25 yards. I just need to be able to hit a silhouette at 10 yards in the dark when I am half asleep.

  • 10 Yards...30 feet, you must live in a fucking mansion...that black bastard coming in my bedroom at night will receive Speer 9mm hollow points. The distances will be less than 10 feet. I bet if we ask armed patriots who have had the pleasure of executing home defense, they would say the perp was very close when fired upon. Also have S&W Model 60 .357 Magnum and AK-47.

  • lol disagree with the black statement :-p However the rest is absolutely correct. Own a gun for every situation. Someone break into ur home? Put em down with a 45. Economic collapse occur and anarchy spews into the streets and looting is rampant? Show off your AK-47 and let people know that you mean business... why? because u dont even need to upkeep that gun... it wont jam and it will penetrate the car they are hiding behind lol :)

  • gonna have to say ur almost there with the point. I would gladly lock fists any day. But until some entity can disarm criminals... then im sorry. the gun will be a viable option of defense.

  • giving a solution to one problem.. a problem...it becomes an endless cycle.

  • If you are ever robbed at gun point or your home robbed like mine was then see how well your debating will protect your life. Criminals don't fear words they fear death.

  • And then, when you have a mentality like yours, someone who is a 'pussyhole' will kill you about 2 seconds after you try and fight them.

    Good idea though... not.

  • Wow. I'm sure that the 500,000+ people who were hacked to death by machetes in Rwanda died knowing their society was much safer without guns. Hopefully you never leave the liberal fishbowl you live in. The rest of us live in the real world.

  • even better yet, homemade 10 or 12 gauge hollowpoint slugs!

  • God I hate it when airsofters pretend to be gun experts.

Seriously mdjbm, move out of your mommmies basement, learn a bit about firearms, THEN start posting about your expertise. Right now, you look like an idiot.

  • search "tommy uspsa" to see me shoot an m&p

  • I somewhat agree with "viewitnow". Most cops are not experts on firearms. I was taught how to shoot by a ERT instructor, and he said to me that it was scary what poor shots some cops are, and a lot cops have very little interest in guns other than they have to carry one as part of their job. As far as the comment about police being "first responders" to save you? Police generally react to crime, they don`t stop crime. As far as protecting my family, I`m not waiting for the police to do that.

  • ditto... sweet comment...

  • Cool video man!!!

  • Get an XD.

  • hell ya bitch!!

  • xd this xd that...lol...my friend is xd gun ho! so far he's got 4 xd's...He just got the new .45...

  • "Wow, it's heavier than I thought."

    Dude! That's what she said!

  • I'd take a HK or Sig before I took the M&P. But I'm sure it's a good pistol. I've heard of plenty of people saying there reliable and a good weapon.

  • I like Glocks They outrate nearly every other handun

  • Outrate how? In the number of times the gun jams? A friend of mine who is a highway patrol officer believes that Glocks are overrated. They have given him more problems than any brand he's used. After switching to the Smith & Wesson M&P, he hasn't had the same problems he's had with the Glocks.

  • I agree. my friend a newbie shooter entered a conpetition yesterday and he was complaining that his glock jammed 13 times during the entire course wasting a lot of time

  • i never liked glocks for that reason first time i shoot one it must have jammed every other bullet

  • limp wrist

  • you do realize that u need about 300-400 rounds to fully break in a Glock ??? why do you think the cops use them ????

  • Because as a rule, cops are idiots and far more often than not completely IGNORANT of firearms. Listen to those badge monkeys go on about "stopping Power", "knock down power" blah blah blah.. biggest group perpetuating gun myths comes from that segment of society and wanna be gang-sta rappers.
