I remember this well... I drove directly under this while on 565 near Research Blvd. i said to myself that it looked like a wall cloud and that it could drop a tornado any minute. Sure enough by the time I got home a flipped the TV on, I saw that it had developed... Scary day.
I remember in the 1960's when video(film) of tornadoes was extreamly rare! Now days, a given tornado may be surrounded by hundres of phones and cameras, and posted for all to see on the same day. Something, isn't it?!!
I might be dumb for asking this but do anyone know if a tornado hit by the college? My uncle lives right by the college and I heard the power will be out for the next 5 days and I havent been able 2 get ahold of him
next time through your phone into the tornadao but make sure your gps is on so you could find it..the guy you gave it to is a dumb ass..they aint enough wind but yet there is a funnel cloud...what a dumb ass
@RaigaX17 but if it touched the ground it would be too late for someone to get out of the way, if they are not aware. only storms can be seen on radar not tornado. some only last 4 mins sometimes but moves for miles.
Good grief! Anyway, enjoyed the video! Saw that early power flash- the handler didn't see it because they were busy passing the phone around. Amazing video- thanks for sharing. It looked like it was getting stronger at the end as it was moving away- would love to know what direction the video was facing- Is that a beavertail to the left?? It's some fine inflow, no matter. Really awesome video!
@abbyxxx333 Lol, if I even had a basement, I'd be the only one down there every single time a storm with severe wind would pass by. I'm always the one yelling at my parents to take shelter when we have a tornado warning, but they always go look out the window instead.
Huuuugh... they just know... that there is excitement with a tornado and over hyper attitudes with bodily senses hightened and doughnuts and coffee time.
I love how the guy doing the commentary says" if it came down now it would be an F1" WTF and Power flashes at 3:50 and he said it is not a tornado right now. GO TO SPOTTTER CLASS DUDE
@Alabamastormchaser I wasn't the one doing the commentary. I have been to numerous spotter training classes and the like. I was at my office, and handed my phone off for someone to do the recording for me while I was in the office on the radio talking with NALSW and HMCRACES to report what I was seeing. The person stating the strength/not a tornado now/etc knows his mistake. Focus on the video itself, not the peanut gallery talking during its filming. :P
@Alabamastormchaser I wasn't going to comment on the narrators (NOT WX4JRR) stupidity until he let loose with the "lifting weights this morning, pls hold camera, arm is killing me" BS
+
AT 2:42..... One of the all time stupidist utterings in the history of storm reporting/chasing/watching when he came back with the classic "Who Just Shot The Light Up In It" as the transformer fuse blew beneath the meso and illuminated the funnel for a split second.
I can understand the "sweet" comment near the front. I thought that as well (about tornadoes in general) till a part of somebody's roof ripped through my infant daughters wall and almost killed her during a rare South Texas outbreak. True - sweet from a distance, but realize, it's just a wind powered meat grinder once it gets some debris in it.
3:26 It's on the ground...see the power flashes below it? Tornados don't always have a visible funnel....what you need to watch for is the debris underneath it to verify it is indeed on the ground :)
@Lhuv1@LDablo2000 Yes it touched down. If you search for the clip of our local news covering this live, WHNT, the meteorologist confirms its on the ground.
@seanbonjovi2001 No,its a tornado siren,it warns people that there is a tornado, ususally they sound off when the town is under a tornado warning.Tornadoes do make a sound kind of like a train though.
it was already on the ground at about 3:25 ish, you can see the electrical wires getting torn it just was really visible, i think but i could be wrong
Seems like it ended up producing EF-2 damage. Even though there isn't a full condensation funnel appearing to reach the ground, this tornado was on the ground at this time. One thing Dan Satterfield always says and is absolutely true. "Tornado is wind, not a cloud"
Very Nice footage. I live in Whichita Falls Texas. We got a lot of tornados there. I use to live in England where not one touched down, then we moved and at first we had to idea what it was we thought it was just a cloud. Then someone came out and told us and we were like ohh takecover?? Haha.
It's not rare for the tornado to be seen at the edge of the storm like this. I have observed several tornadoes, and all of them have been by the edge or close to the edge of the storm. These are the easier ones to film when storm chasing also.
@binnyswaa nipple? Rofl that cacked me up but that is serious i have mnever in my life been through a tornado i dont want to anytime too even though it is hurricane season
The best part of this is that the "trained" storm spotter fails to see that the tornado is on the ground from the moment he begins recording. Kind of hard to miss those powerflashes...

i live in Morrisville, Missouri. If you live in springfield or around you'd know dis. We always got warnings but it never came. My family lives in a mobile home, so we really had to be careful but thats beside the point. Anyway we got a warning wen i waz at skool. We listened but our gym waz destroyed and last week it jus got finished being rebuilt. All i saw outside waz white. I got in huge trouble cuz we were in the shelter and i waz climing to the window cuz i wanted to c a twister.
People, just because the condensation funnel doesn't touch the ground doesn't mean nothing is happening on the ground. That was a TORNADO, a rotating cloumn of air from a supercell thunderstorm- in contact with the ground. Powerflashes and all. Congratulations, you've learned something new. For further info go to National Weather Service Huntsville and see the storm report. EF2 tornado damage confirmed.
Very true. I'm a storm spotter in the SE Texas area, 90% tornado's i have experienced do not have a large condensation funnel & rarely touch the ground. Yet they will do severe damage, usually the suction under the condensation funnel is invisible unless it crosses dirt or picks up debris & usually appears to be "tube" like. Of all the tornado's i've seen, the damage has varied from F0 to F3 in the funnel's path.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
the title clearly says tornado....it never touched the ground so i believe its called a funnel cloud.....yep.....so therefor this tornado is "fake and gay"
your an idiot cipper, just because there is not a visable condensation funnel all the way to the surface DOES NOT mean it is not on the ground doing damage. A tornado is wind NOT a cloud. This tornado didnt have a visable condensation reaching the ground for much of its duration, yet was still a fairly strong tornado, rated EF-2.
idk if uve realized this but ive been just going through here screwing with ppl is all. thanks for wasting ur time writing that comment which took you 5 minutes to even think up probably. that is all.
a 2 is not that strong of a tornado. get your facts straight also i think i may know more since i am a grad student for meteorology. dont bother replying.

i live in Morrisville, Missouri.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
the title clearly says tornado....it never touched the ground so i believe its called a funnel cloud.....yep.....so therefor this tornado is "fake and gay"

your an idiot cipper, just because there is not a visable condensation funnel all the way to the surface DOES NOT mean it is not on the ground doing damage. A tornado is wind NOT a cloud. This tornado didnt have a visable condensation reaching the ground for much of its duration, yet was still a fairly strong tornado, rated EF-2.
