  • Remarkably handsome man-Even at 80-and simply unbelievable voice ! Pure CLASS...99% of the "singers" today aren't qualified to hold the microphone for him..

  • Still has that golden voice.

  • a great song

  • I have no words.Thank you

  • This is pure gold! Who can sing like this today, with the exception of Josh Groban? Bless you, Ed Ames.

  • Still a fantastic voice! It doesn't sound like an old voice. He is timeless. Even Perry Como's voice was pleasant but thin at 80. Such emotion and richness like he was forty years earlier.

  • This man's voice could melt cement !!!! at 84 years young, Ed continues to perform to this day.

  • Mingo is just flat out selling on this!

  • gorgious

  • He has what it takes to master this song.

  • None better. Period!

  • Ed Never gets enough credit for that great Voice . God Bless Him.

  • Ed Ames can also sing some of his favorite hymns and inspirational songs, as well as favorite gospel songs.

  • Now this is music for me!

  • omg that was just AWESOME - thanks, PBS, and thank you, MrIronsides, for posting!

  • Ed can still sing. How old was he here?

  • Simplesmente ma-ra-vi-lho-so, a melodia e a interpretação destas músicas.

"My Cup Runneth Over" ouvi somente uma vez, e me tocou muito.

Quando vejo Ed Ames o "Mingo", meu herói de infância interpretando, fiquei maravilhado, pois não sabia de sua carreira como cantor.

  • great

  • I miss this kind of beautiful (melody/lyrics) song these days. A fantastic performance by this young handsom fellow. Thanks!

  • Whatever he's doing to look and sound so great after all these years it sure is working

  • Wow!! Fantastic voice. Very high class gentleman.

I can't say enough about this man's talent!!

  • I really love both of his Christmas albums, and absolutely love him as 'Mingo' on the Daniel Boone TV series. Long Live Ed Ames!!

  • He is amazing....such a wonderful voice....

  • Oh, my, he was so wonderful and it lasted so long and I am so glad that some people today remember and upload that wonderful voice. Thank you! I will stop blubbering soon.

  • In late February, I celebrate a major event in my life in 1967. Invariably, I play this record.

"In only a moment, we both will be old."

    like 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010......

The real fun of this record is to hold that note fifteen seconds.

  • I was born too late for all the good musical theatre, choreography, and dance teachers.

We are so fortunate that these treasures are on film to be shared with the entire world. This is the international and great world gift of YouTube.

  • Why did we ever drive such grace and class from the world? What were we thinking?

  • I hope Mr. Ames (or someone close to him) has access to these comments so that he can see how appreciated he continues to be. What a fine artist! He is one of the very best singers of his--or any--generation. And no slouch as an actor, either. I've recently found re-runs of the old Daniel Boone series, and Mr. Ames as Mingo was the best part of it--so much fun. The man is a class act. Bravo!

  • What an incredibly gifted vocalist. His voice sounds a bit different these days, but at his age it's to be expected. It's still quite powerful & strong, though. One of my all time favorite singers; and here he sings my two favorite hits of his. And his time on the 60's "Daniel Boone" showed he was a good actor too. THANK YOU so very much for posting this....watching it has MADE my day & my week. And HAPPY HOLIDAYS to you & yours! :)

  • It's heart-warming to hear that one of my all-time favorites is still going strong!

  • 80+ years old and this guy has still got it! fantastic.

  • I Love this guy sooo much because

my cup runneth over with LOVE

  • Those three young female backup singers are sharing the stage with a legend and I wonder if they realize how fortunate they are. There aren't too many singers around like Ed anymore. Fantastic !!!

  • I wish I could have been there on the front row center.....This man is incredible.....

  • Fantastic performances, Excellent singer.

  • Man! Hasn't lost his touch! Even in high school when I was devoted to the Sex Pistols, Clash, and Devo I could never walk away from the Ames Brothers. They were one of my favorites when I was a kid so it's nice to see he's still singing like a pro. Classic.

  • That's really cool that you included such variety!

  • Pragtfuld Bariton

  • Just wonderful !

    Ageless talent ..... :)

Thank you so much for posting !

    Dave

  • Wonderful!!!! they just get better with age!!!

  • two songs that are very difficult to sing at peak age, yet he nails them. BRAVO !!!!

  • Ladies and gentlemen, that's a pro at work.

  • @podline66 I couldn't agree more!

  • @podline66 : you sure are right about that!! He hit every note perfectly and also "performed" the songs!

  • Mingo still at the top of his game, I see....great video....thanks for posting it....

  • Our cups ran over with love when we were young, but cancer separated us at too early an age. Now the grey is in my hair and a limp has entered my step, but my cup STILL runneth over with love. I will love you always.

  • You are so right. His voice still sounds tremendous. Ed Ames, Andy Williams, Perry Como, Robert Goulet, Steve Lawrence, the voices all still sound great. Newer singers don't have stamina in this business. Thanks for posting.

  • there is nothing in the world better than those veteran performers like ed ames, andy williams and so many others from that time.i'm so glad that some of them still around in these terrible years.

  • The gestures and his voice from 1:34-1:40 -- Heartbreaking! What a great performer.

  • I can still the Mingo in him! I just want to run up and give him a big hug and tell him he grows more and more loveable.

  • He was one of my hero's as "Mingo" in the Daniel Boone TV Shows !

40something years later he's STILL one of my All Time Hero's ! and I'm glad Too !!

  • I remember when this song came over the AM radio in the 60's. I think it was #1 for a while? Never heard of Ed Ames before then, but never forgot the name either. Voices this rare only come around in a great while.

  • To sound as good as he does at his age is a tribute to his continued physical conditioning and vocaliziing.Johnny Maestro also maintains and Ella Fitzgerald had maintained her vocal prowess until the end.

  • I sound like someone 100 years old, but I do miss the days when people had spectacular voices, range, and interpretation. I was an "easy listening DJ" in the '60's, and I cherished the opportunity to play Ames, Damone, Vale, Sinatra, Martin, and others. As Bobby Darin might have sung, "And to think I got paid for this."

  • Get his greatest hits, worth every dime and he was LONG before my time!

  • Wow,,,,One of The Ames Brothers.....

    What a Legand..

  • What a great song with meaning. A song one can appreciate as we get oleder and gain wisdom. It is only here the we realize what is important in life. Al

  • A beautiful voice, singing a lovely song

    and more..... thanks for posting.

  • I had this on 45 back in the 70's and am so glad we can still enjoy it today! I have it on my I-pod now. My how times have changed. No good music today like this anymore . . .

  • What wonderful singing. Words with meaning, so clear and rich in tone.

  • He still has it. What a fantastic singer. Lindy

  • Totally awesome....then and now.

  • Yes, too bad he didn't have more hits. He is a very under rated singer but still has a great voice and a great since of humor too.

  • Wow, Mingo can still sing!

  • He'll always be Mingo to me too!

  • Like I have said before, I grew up following this wonderful man all over Southern CA! It really does seem like only yesterday! Time flies by, but his voice is eternal! Thank you for bringing such joy back into our lives, Ed. I even borrowed some old vinyl albums and converted them into CDs. Wish I could turn back the hands of time, but so glad I was able to do this!

  • Incredible, he sounds great!

  • What an incredible voice!

  • Fantastic!!

  • A lifetime spent singing songs of this calibre and quality and we'll all look as good as Ed Ames does at 80!...Do ya think? GREAT POST~~~Mrironsides

  • You are so right! I just hope to avoid laying around in a rocking chair and sucking on an IV bottle when I'm 80! You sing like this at 80 because you sang correctly at 20, ,30, 40, 50, 60, 70 and every age between. IMO, every person who calls themselves a singer should sit and watch and listen to this man do it right. Wonderful music and a wonderful man... he'll always be Mingo to me!

  • I remember some years ago seeing "THE FANTASTICS" at the Sullivan Street Playhouse in NYC. Well, I did not know the song came from the play aaaaand was not prepared for him to sing "TRY TO REMEMBER"...the tears just poooooured from my eyes

  • Nice, very beautifil. I"m brazilian, but I love Ed ames long time. Thank you.

  • It's IMPOSSIBLE for one to elaborate on PERFECTION!!!

  • He's such a wonderful man! Try to Remember Ed Ames... I don't even have to TRY! :D

  • This is what these songs should sound like - simple, heartfelt, honest, melodious, full of legato line and no artifice. Oh, if we had some young singers today sing the Great American Song Book with such grace and beauty.

  • Ed Ames is one of the great tenors of all times. Thank you for posting this song for my enjoyment

    TT

  • I think Ed Ames is a baritone, not a tenor.

  • a fantastic baritone!!!

  • My Mickie makes this song well up pictures of love for over 50 years. She is the love of my life. John

  • Gosh, just listen to the power EA brings to "Try to Remember." I've sung this piece many times in community theater productions, but never had anything like this richness of sound and interpretative sensibility -- and Ed is more than 30 years my senior!

  • Only other person I can hear singing this song is the late, great Robert Goulet.

  • Robert Preston and Mary Martin did this song on sytage in "I Do, I Do." Tapes of this performance still exist.

  • Me too. I sure hope I sound as good as EA does when I'm 80:) --

  • The special was called My Music: The 50's Pop Parade....Ed Ames hit big with My Cup Runneth Over in 1967! Eh, whatever...still love it!!!!!

  • Thanks again for another great clip. Doesn't Ed look and sound great. He just turned 80.

  • Dang right. I think Ed Ames is one of the best American pop singers, and quite underrated --

  • I certainly agree. And I also love listening to the Ames Brothers. I thought the 4 Lads did a pretty good job substituting for the Ames' on this special in the Naughty Lady.
