  • They overstated the vulnerability of a coastal city that lies mostly BELOW SEA LEVEL?

Given the one-sided comments, I'm going to guess you also delete all the comments that don't agree with you. Before you delete mine, do the math and figure out the elevation difference between a 28' storm surge and -9' MSL 9th Ward.

  • Half of New Orleans is at or well above sea level......Also, New Orleans is 120 miles inland and did not get a 28 foot storm surge. Surge in New Orleans was at most about 9 feet and that's what engineered structures (levees) are supposed to do, protect from surge.....The responsibility for the design and construction belongs by law to your Army Corps of Engineers.

  • the way to get out of crisis: Civil Engineering,! creating jobs for engineers, creates jobs for contractors creates jobs for workers created jobs for businesses, ans so on..

  • U.S. has spent over $35 BILLION for the rebuilding of Iraq !!!! But, we don't rebuild our own U.S. levees and a wonderful major U.S. city...New Orleans. Shameful, let's demand more. Where is the parade, the picketing, the protest. REBUILD NEW ORLEANS NOW !!!!!

  • Keep fighting the good fight!

    Spot was here.

    =)

  • Read about Ercon Corp at WWL TV online, they repaired the levees with newspapers, really!!

  • Surprised? Remember the 3 greatest lies ever?

#1. I'm from the government and I'm here to help you.

It could be worse. Bush could declare that WMDs are hidden in New Orleans.

  • Sandy responds:

Thank you, all of you who helped launch our most recent video to the top of the YouTube charts!

  • Anytime Sandy.

In the end, you have you and your son to thank for doing a good job. As Sir Churchill once said, "Continuous effort - not strength or intelligence - is the key to unlocking our potential."

  • Watch YouTube "Against the Tide"-New Orleans-levees. Work has been inferior and negligent.Professor Robert Bea leas a post Katrina investigation for the National Science Foundation and finds that current work is inferior. Watch this video and know what is occurring in New Orleans and elsewhere. It can happen in other areas.

  • On YouTube! California Colloquium on Water:Ray Seed

Watch Now, Take Notes, Contact Congress,Demand ACTION NOW !

  • Watch the YouTube video of Dr Ray Seed entitiled "California colloquium on water:Dr Ray Seed. Read his 42 page letter to the ASCE and his oversight group which found that the levee board and the n.o. sewerage and water board fight each other and accomplish nothing. Read the letter in full and be aware of the facts. Contact the government now.

  • Read Dr. Ivor Van Heerden's book "The Storm" and watch his video here on YouTube. All of these people who are professionals in this area know what is going on behind the scenes. Don't you want to know as well??? Don't you want to be safe?? We are imploding from within, this is outrageous. Speak up now.

Also, John M. Barry's book, Rising Tide and his article in USA Today posted on 8/29/06 entitled" A City Worth Saving". Please demand better now from the government and the oil and gas industry

  • The Entire Nation is at Risk , this is NOT limited to New Orleans. It will happen to you.

  • youTube >>>> California colloquium on water:Dr Ray Seed

  • An Independent review is absolutely necessary. There is another YouTube video from the UC Berkeley professor , Dr. Ray Seed, be sure to watch it. He reveals that there is a major problem with honesty. Google his name and you will read the letter he wrote to the ASCE, it is powerful !!!!

All citizens are at risk, our infrastructure is being neglected completely !!!!Contact Congress now.

  • All 50 States in the United States have levees!!!! All states depend upon these levees, everyone is in danger. contact Congress now and demand that these levees are maintained and updated. Remember, the Netherlands took care of their country in the 1950's and have never flooded in their below sea level country. Just recently in Minnesota a bridge collapsed and many people died. Is there anyone listening out there?

  • People be aware! The corp has built levees just like the ones in New Orleans elsewhere so this can happen to you if you have levees too!! Makes one also wonder because the bridges are also starting to become something to consider too - is our government properly building and maintaining our major structures?

Rest assured they are even covering up repair faults - why open the spillway early? Watch and see - New Orleans may have to evacuate yet again even out of hurricane season!!!!

  • Need an independent investigation now! Contact your congressperson now before this happens to you. We all are protected by ACE engineering. Until we find out what the mistakes were, we'll never know how to improve.

  • Thanks for this very informative video.

  • The levee failures during Katrina will look like a broken water fountain compared to a failure of the Mighty Mississippi River Levee... The decision making by the ACE of the Bonnet Carre Spillway bays gives me the creeps. Confidence in the ACE is at a big time low...Take a look at the river and the speed of the water rushing by...Officials, residents, interested parties....keep an eye on it and take heed.

  • I was at the river yesterday evening. It is really high, rushing, roiling and scary! Get out your boats and lifejackets!

If it doesn't happen this time, it will soon....the creation of the hollow state - they're aiding profits, not people.

Read "The Shock Doctrine ~ The Rise of Disaster Capitalism"

  • Well I live here in N.O. east and if this EVER happens again, I'm gone for GOOD. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. There WON'T be a second time!

I was born and raised here and my license plate says "504LADY" to show my connection with the city, but I cannot continue to support a city where the people in charge don't give a crap about its residents! If they don't make this right, there won't be another New Orleans, if anything like Katrina happens again.

  • To those that think the levee failures were caused by nature: Please read any of the levee failure investigation reports. It is clear as a bell the levees failed precisely because of engineering and engineering management mistakes by no one other than the USACE. Please don't let them trick you into believing anything but the truth.

  • We know whats wrong so why don't we stop trying to fingerpointing and work together to fix it...the longer it takes the smaller N.O. will become...Sad but true...if it's not fixed who will want to live there and this who thing was a waste of time and energy...Stop trying to justify your existance and make something for your children and their children...THIS TIME DO IT RIGHT...make us proud..." Just do it" as they say...

  • Sandy responds to taf4350:

This is a growing sentiment among engineers - that we should just move on. Most appear to have forgotten that it is impossible to predict the future without understanding the past.

  • i'm not american,but everytime i receive a message from brasschek tv,or a video i watch,i rate,i share and i do my best to help,or spread the truth,you americans it's your life so act!!!

  • The crop were the one's to sign the contract for the levees to be built they were the one's that sign off that the leeves were built correct but now It's not our fault that the leeves fail. Again how sign off when these levees were finish and built right who was the one's to award the contracts the Orleans Levees board or the corp ?

  • I agree with the report how can you see what you have done wrong when you are paying for it. At frist when this strom was coming in that this was a cat 5 storm but after the storm it was class as a cat 3 storm . Now these levees were built to handle a cat 3 storm the corp was the main player on the protection of the city After Besty hit the city the crop were the main player in this protection

  • Weather or not the levees were brought down by man or and by nature, I do not know. The aftermath however, in its handling is incomprehensible and suspicious at the least.

  • I'm with you, that post natural disaster the people in N-Orleans should have deserved better than what we see on grounds.

I'm so surprised that, people of N-Orleans are still homeless, while Asian tsunami sufferers are settled, though in limited resources.

Trouble is with the priority of Neocon's, they would pay for fudg**ing terrorism companied over $400 Billion, I don't see $2 Billion worth compensation for N-Orleans.

Only today Corps of Engineers got drain pumps checked.

  • Anything to support New Orleans and the surrounding area has my vote. This system needs to be fixed. And I'm not just talking about the levees.

  • At the end of the day, it's the people of America's fault for allowing their government to do this and get away with it. If American citizens don't stand up then we all deserve to be washed away.

  • Excellent and important.

  • everything about Katrina is a cruel joke-- Corps of Engineers, FEMA, Bush.. the list goes on and on....

    --

    sickened citizen from WA state.

  • from the outside looking in - I sometimes wonder if the "THEY" people saw katrina coming and decided to do nothing...

I've heard a saying somewhere, not sure who but anyway... they said that the most efficient means of regulating food and resource demand, while immoral by most standards, is to kill off the elderly and segments of the population deemed "expendable"

keep in mind that i'm totally not saying I agree with this before you cuss me out please.

  • We need the 8/29 investigation because the Corps continues to try to fool us. They are scarring me again today. With the river stage at 17 feet, river water is seeping through levees in New Orleans. The Corps says that is ok and normal unless the situation progresses to sand boils - which was an 8/29 levee failure mechanism. If we get to sand boils, wouldn't it probably be too late to do anything? What would the Corps do? Call an evacuation? I hope they don't kill more of us New Orleanians.

  • Why am I having so much trouble viewing this video? Has the message already been sabotoged?

  • Thank you, Levees.org, for keeping this crucial issue in the spotlight. Widespread public knowledge and interest is an important ally of the people of Louisiana, and you are working hard to that end. Many around the country find it easier to to accuse and demean those affected by Katrina rather than to empathize with them. But as the full story is told and the truth comes to light, hopefully people around the country will better understand the situation and thus be more equipped to empathize.

  • Thank you Levees.org for all you are doing to protect this beloved and treasured City. You have my full support.

    Sending Love from Atlanta

  • I agree 100%: Take the current data from the 5 independent studies done on the Levee/s and have an investigation done regarding the 8/29 Levee

related disaster and make decisions based on the facts!

Although, I think the message is there; Hold the camera still and polish up the dialog to make this video easier to watch and understand. Thank you very much!!

  • This should be a no-brainer. However, one would also think that the levees would all have 17' pilings by now and that the newly installed pumps would be working too......The way that our government has mishandled this flood protection failure crisis is a national embarrassment. Sometimes the right thing to do is to own your mistakes and to make a concerted effort to right things. The establishment of an 8/29 commission is just such an effort. Please give it your best support.

  • Make Levees NOT war.

    Thanks Levees.com

  • Since all this has started...I am following all your efforts from France, and I send to all of you all my sincere support

  • As a former New Orleans resident, who lost everything I owned, due to the negligence of the US Army Corps of Engineers, I appreciate all that this non-profit group is trying to do to expose the facts. Please, please help us by forwarding this video to your friends. The damage was not due to the hurricane, it was due to the faulty design, and materials, use in constructing the levees, just so that some govt employees could collect graft! What a shame!

  • have these people even been to New Orleans, they should have to live in New Orleans and see how the army corp has been a shoddy operation

  • Sneaky underhanded Army Corps. They are wrong and I fear they are repeating the same mistakes even now after Katrina. I hope your efforts pay off Sandy for all our sakes.

  • There's a detailed interview with Sandy at podcasts(period)bsalert(period)com -- be sure to check it out.

  • Support of this effort is most important to our futures.

  • Way to go! Keep the facts out there! Thank you!

  • The Corps of Engineers MUST be held accountable. New Orleans and its citizens are STILL struggling. The Corps must be held accountable in New Orleans ... and every other city in which it has worked. If not held accountable, how can the Corps of Engineers EVER be trusted to protect Americans and their cities?

  • Great, great video.

Also should consider respectfully using the free video editing software (Windows Video Editor on Windows XP or I hear iMovie if you do Mac) to insert the video that was on the screen into the final product instead of take video of the TV.

Again, really job well done. I doubt seriously an 8/29 investigation is going to happen, but it should.

  • This told me in plain English what no politician or Army Corp should explain. How can we as Americans not be deeply shamed by these American professionals, who cannot and are uncaring about the job they do? I pay threi salaries and they should all be FIRED.

  • Thanks Sandy!! Well done! Keep on keeping on...Let me know how I can help beyond this. I am still in Texas because there has been no resolution to this and I don't believe that there has been a firm commitment to build the type of levee that will protect New Orleans. If they will not admit to the previous mistakes, commit to make reparations for that and to insure protection from future storms....then I think it would be foolish for me to move back home, as much as I miss it...and I do!Thank you

  • How can anyone in this country not see this and feel comfortable that the dam or levee near their community is safe? I recall a time more than a year ago when the country was shaking its head and thinking "those idiots in New Orleans"; then the levees in Sacramento were discovered to be failing. Then, USA today published a list of over 120 places touching all 50 states where levees or dams were in danger of failing. The country needs to wake up and take this as a warning of what is to come.

  • You keep going/or as Winston Churchill would say and sign his memos, "Keep Buggering On".

I also really, truly like that accent :-).

  • Call your Congressman and Senators. Tell them that Louisiana is VITAL to the USA for oil, gas, seafood, America's wetlands, culture, commerce, and our citizens. It is the crossroads of history and the future of the USA so get the Levees rebuilt properly and do it NOW!!!

    ByUBelle

  • Thank you levees.org for working so hard to bring the truth to light. Keep up the good work of telling it like it is.

  • go levees.org!

  • nice work! we've got to hold the army corps accountable! along with investigating the engineering failures of levees, it's crucial that the role the army corps played in fostering the destruction of our wetlands, a.k.a. natural storm protection, come to light. with this investigation, we can actually move forward with the information we need to do it right- restore our coast and protect us from hurricanes. defend our wetlands, defend ourselves.

  • Horray for levees.org

  • The Govt, seeks to protect its turf, enlarge its turf, and obfuscate what is going on.

  • thank you for sharing with the world wha the corps really did..

  • thank you for sharing with the world the truth about the Corps and what really happened

  • I agree with northrnfrog79.This is about the future of our city.

  • Until we have a President in the White House who gives a damn about regular people and not his well connected oil/real estate/development cronies, nothing will be done to repair our crumbling infrastructure...

Keep fighting! We need these voices to be at the forefront of the next Administration!

  • Thanks for posting this important video.

  • Thanks for spreading the truth!
