  • when the world ends ill e whistling this while i rebuild the world

  • Brava!

  • You are epic :)

  • wow... incredible... :'D

  • :O holy shit

  • Can't believe that a human being is actually able to play this... Gershwin is fantastic, and you're doing a good joob playing the Rhapsody in blue :)

  • Wow! I'm working on this right now and this has helped me a lot :)

How long have you been playing piano?

  • Well done! For those of use who have tried to play this ourselves, missing those tough sections is well understood. Touche!

  • This is honestly the most complicated piece of music I've ever seen. You did pretty damn well.

  • I like it! /watch?v=QLNCm99niDA/ -->for some inspiration (György Vukán, he is a Hungarian pianist)

  • Awesome! I just can say that, you played really good this difficult and long composition!

  • I first heard this song when I heard a man named Alpin Hong (who is now my idol and friend) and fell in love with it immediately, Its extremely hard, and you did a really good job with it. Keep up the good work.

  • O_O .... I can do that 0.00-0.04 pro.

  • Phenomenal Job. I'm trying to learn the piece right now, very difficult. You put a lot of feeling into it. I'm impressed.

  • 0:52 mistake? LOL :D

    you're so amazing ;)

  • dude your awesome, I would give my left nut to be able to play this song

  • Despite the fact that there were as many bum notes as there were right ones, it was still fantastic!

And to all those who gave him thumbs down and there are 17 of you,

    go screw yourselves!!!

  • Absolutely incredible! I cannot describe how excellent! This is my favorite piece of music, and you gave me an amazing version!

By the way, people, he had to cut some parts to fit in YouTube's time limit.

Also, thanks to United, I always associate this with air travel. I guess that's good.

  • BRAVO!!!! That was absolutely fantastic! I have to admit that is the first time I've ever sat down and listened to the entire song. There were sections that I recognized, but I've never heard the entire thing. Thank you so much for playing this for us. You are an excellent pianist! For those who had anything negative to say, I say "do better!" Heck, just learning the piece is an accomplishment!

Keep up the good work! I hope you succeed in whatever you choose to do with your life.

  • That was amazing! Good work! Please keep playing (:

  • u skipped a part lame but very good performance of the parts you did play

  • ma come cazzarola fai???? io nn ci riusciro mai...il 17 ho il concaerto e nn la so fare

  • I'll clarify: even my piano teacher can hardly play the part after the glissando

  • i'm jealous of big hands ): i could never fit my fingers around those notes all at once, it sounds like spaghetti

  • awesome

  • this song is harder than a nerd looking at playboy :?

  • Wow. That was unbelievably amazing. My piano teacher can hardly play that section near the end, after the hand crossovers. I can only dream of the day when I can play as well as you. Great work!

  • @AlWaterford im 15 and i can play this, strange piano teacher

  • INCREDIBLE!

  • you're cool!

  • doesnt anybody GET that the definition of a rhapsody is that it is a FREE STYLED instrumental piece characterise by its dramatic changes in moods. So he can do whatever the f*&k he wants wit his timing! leave him alone, he is amazing!

  • @mantywinehouse

    Thanks! I appreciate it.

You can find the sheets if you search "IMSLP rhapsody in blue" in Google or something.

And if you can, check out my composition "A Dream (Composition, Updated, HD)" and let me know what you think.

  • @ikemaster9 all i can say is oh. my. god. there are no words to describe how beautifully you played that! and you wrote it YOURSELF???? O.O HOW? did you train in composition or something? Even so that is beyond anything i have every heard from any pianist of this decade. and i say that with extreme CERTAINTY. is it based on serialism?

  • @mantywinehouse

It's actually not my final version. I never wrote down the piece and now it's time apply for college so I've been working on writing it all down. In the process, I've added and changed some things. It's about 5 minutes long now. I hope what I've added is actually beneficial :p I'm really glad you like it! I haven't had any compositional training. I just started writing things a couple years ago and now I actually write more than I learn repertoire.

  • @mantywinehouse

And no, it's not based on serialism. I think I'm most influenced by romantic and impressionistic music - chopin, rachmaninov, debussy, ravel, etc.

  • @ikemaster9 are you seriously only starting to apply for college now? oh my god im in WAY over my head. we must be like the same age and i am nowhere NEAR that good.... Yeah that era is definetely the best. and dont forget gershwin! :P

please upload the video with your changes made to it? when i was listening to it the only fault it had was that it wasnt long enough! :)

  • @mantywinehouse

hah, yeah, what're you, 16-17? and yeah i actually have a somewhat jazzy composition, appropriately titled "jazzy composition" :p it's in my videos here. and yeah I'll probably post a video when i've made the final version of the other piece

  • @ikemaster9 yup. hopefully in college next year. :D haha brilliant! how inventive! make sure you do. Otherwise it wud be like when you watch CSI and dont get to find out who the killer is!

  • @mantywinehouse um no it was written by george gershwin this is just an edited version

  • @ladyguadalupe8 i was talking about the songs he wrote on his channel, they're amazing you should check them out. :)

  • @mantywinehouse not entirely. The point is that you can adjust the rhythms and tempos to your pace, but the timing between hands should be good. That's what people are talking about when they talk about timing.

  • @mantywinehouse

word. Half the beauty in playing music lies in how you interpret and adapt something.

  • @E36punk exactly! I think there's no point in covering a song/piece if your aim is just for it to be exactly the same as the original. :D

  • this is unbelievable! your trills are sooo fast! you are seriosuly talented man! where did you get the sheet music?

  • Sounds pretty good dude! Just need to work on several timing issues and you seem to not notice that you are actually going a little too fast at certain parts of the song. at some slow parts you were going too fast and at some fast parts you were too slow or too fast. please read on the music of how fast it should be via words like moderato assai or rit. or tempo giusto or meno mosso e poco scherzando

  • Thanks for sharing, I listened to it all and I know how difficult this is. Not an easy piece, very hard it is in fact.... I wish I could play half of it .... :)

  • the missing part that would start around 09:01 is one of the most glorious jaw-dropping piano stunts ever. you should learn it. your audience is going to fall off their chairs (that is, if at that point they are still sitting).

  • i learn songs on piano by watching people"s hands on videos on youtube, i really want to learn this, so i was wondering if you could post another video of this with a better view of both hands and all keys? i know this is probably too much to ask, but i thought its worth it to ask

  • I am so glad to see a white guy playing this and not another Asian! They're talented and all, but still. I'm just making a joke as an FYI. lol

  • Um... I have to say, it is good, but you need to work on your interpretation, a lot of the timing is a bit off... but very well played!

  • Well done!

  • how long did it take you to perfect this?

  • @jlcarpenter77

it's far from perfect. and it's from 3 years ago. my playing has gotten a lot better, and I've been composing a lot. check out my new stuff like my "A Dream" composition

  • @ikemaster9 No offense, but I can see that it's not completely perfect. To me it seemed like your timing was off in some places and you came in too soon. Overall it's great! But I still prefer hearing it with a jazz ensemble or an orchestra. (^.^)

  • you are a genius

  • very good, this song is the whole reason why i decided to play clarinet, unfortunately for me, i cant afford the sheet music right now,but one day I'm just gonna say what the hell and buy it, glad to see another person that appreciates real music :)

  • good song=] impossible for me to learn XD

  • it's people like you who made me want to play rhapsody in blue in the first place. Grade A work ^^

  • thats a freakin nice piano. im learing to play this. very nice playing

  • well i would say he's pretty good but u know practice makes perfect...heheheh

  • check your rhythm

  • Great song mate, but you gotta work on your timing a little more :) Well played

  • i totally learned to play this, but not as well

  • can you get me the sheet music?

  • Really good except that i agree with some people that kind of play like a robot

  • Nice improvisation!

  • Nice, though the gaps are annoying.

  • @LFZ15 I'd like to see you play this

  • @LFZ15 I'd like to see you play this! ha that'd be a laugh

  • @purplepandas90 To be honest, I would love to see myself play this too :P Correctly would be nice

  • @LFZ15 he's pretty good! I'm gonna learn how to play this...I just barely perfected Clair de Lune....and it took me 6 months...but now I'm gonna learn this...oh...did I mention that I'm only 13...i know my channel says that im 21 but thats cuz my cousin gave her u tube account to me :P lol wish me luck...haha

  • purely amazing

  • beast.

  • Comment removed

  • my GOD ur good!!

  • You got the technique down alright, but you kinda play like a robot, no offense.

Loosen up a bit and in a while this should be perfect.

  • Really? He does this great improvisation and you say he has no feeling? As if you can do something like this without feeling it!

  • That's rhapsody in blue, not improv.

And yes, you could do an improvisation only using technique. It just wouldn't sound very good.

  • I believed he wrote "improved" not "improv'd."

  • And i believe he wrote "He does this great improvisation"

The difference is, I know what I'm talking about.

  • oops. Some comments get removed.

out of context. But thanks for being a douchebag anyway!

    That made my day!

  • It's what i do.

    I make days....with my douchebaggery.

  • this is amazing! you are very talented, keep playing :)

  • you do not give your heart to the music. relax. belive me. do not afraid the energy you have..music is not only the technique.

  • this is very nice

  • i like this version the best. can you tell me which one it is?

  • ha, sounds like me. when i mess up and forget how the part im playing goes i just skip to the next part. even though i know damn well just how to play it!

  • You are really good!

Hey check out my channel I play piano and I'm just starting to upload a bunch of vids :)

  • This song is really really difficult, so though it is obvious that it can be performed much more better, you did it sooooo right. I have checked some other of your uploads and are great.

    Congratulations!

  • This is truly amazing, but is this the original? I have the original 29 page piece, and you skipped a few pages towards the beginning, and a few towards the end.

  • Beautiful work. I loved it so much!! I actually saw a man in a mall once play a bit of this song (about 03:56 and on) for his girlfriend on one of the display grand pianos in the lobby XDD

  • very impressive...

  • Very impressive! ^_^

  • Ppl actually call chopin etudes w/ subtitles?? Ex: 25-12 ocean 25-11 winter winds (understandable) but i thought it was generally the black keys aeolian harp winter winds that people actually call with subtitles

  • i really wish to play that song

thats really great, try it slower though

  • this is really great, but people always play it too fast D:

try making it more slower. slower = more jazzier

  • you are an amazing piaono player!!

  • where did you get the sheet music for this?

  • hey dude just a suggestion why dont you call an piano technician and tune your piano cause ive heard some notes well maybe its on the strings (technically its always the strings) not in proper tuning or replace all old strings with new ones so the sound of the piano will became good. It sounds like a harpsicord.

  • It doesn't actually sound anything like a harpsichord. The only reason it does in this video is because of how I converted the video. You can see how my piano really sounds in my most recent video of Chopin's Ocean Etude.

The piano does need to be tuned, though.

  • I am sorry because it really sound like a harpsicord I am Really Really sorry for what I have said please forgive me.

  • No worries

  • This video is old. Watch my most recent video of Chopin's Ocean Etude.

  • Don't be an ass hole. Everyone loses their place in music especially if they are playing mostly from memory. It was really good.

  • you forgot a part, if you know the fantasia 2000 it's the part where they're in the metro

  • Just like onboard united airlines! great job!

  • exeded a little the rubatos but is ok

  • wow your really good

  • I love this song...

    you played it so well.

    Amazing video (:

    This song is 29 pages

  • dang ur fingers look sooo tite

  • wow!! you're really fast, how long did it take to be so fluent?

  • everyday i'm impressed by something on youtube. This one's good for a whole week.

    impressive!

  • Im learning this song... how log does it take to fin this song?

  • Wow; this is done really well. Only thing I noticed was that your trill at the beginning was a little slow at first.

If you listen to the original Gershwin recordings with either clarinet or piano, the trill accelerates very quickly, not slowly as you've played it here. Also, the following gliss is a little choppy. Totally great otherwise though.

  • amazing!!

I absolutely LOVE the irregular tempo, I think that's what makes this whole performance so unique and brilliant! xD

  • awesome! one of my favorite pieces of all time. well executed. gonna check your channel to see if you perform the mintue waltz too.

  • hey your really good! can you check out me playing the piano? i have 2 uploads of me playing th piana but not as near good as you!!!!

  • OMG is all I have to say....you are amazing! Keep up the playing!...I am just speechless..amazing! you could be the next Gershwin...lol

  • You amazing...altough you lost few not.....but still amazing.....

  • oh my dear!! it is just so amazing! i really loved it.. good flow of the rythm.

maybe some little mistakes.. but who am i to criticize? i cant even play an allegro T_T

it would be like 8 stars if available.. but limit is 5.. XD

  • I think the tempo is good, because its not so strict. He is a good pianist.

  • yeah i agree with others about tempo BUT that was a brialliant attempt at the piece, a lot better than me or most of these other people could do. it was a pleasure to listen to. =)

  • Agree with the others - tempo is a bit chaotic. If you are going to play the parts where there are loads of notes in a short space of time and play them quickly, you've got to be able to keep it going. As a result of this I noticed you missed a couple of notes and, on the odd occasion, hit two keys instead of just the one as a result of your speed.

I'm not saying its terrible, because it clearly isn't. Its a VERY difficult piece and I think you've done bloody well. Just take your time.

  • Yeah, you're right. I did this so long ago, though. I know there's no other video of me playing this to criticize, of course, but I'm just saying. I'll pick this piece back up again sometime with my new teacher, and I'm sure it'll be a lot better.

  • Go for it. Practice makes perfect and all that haha. Got to say, myself, I'd look forward to a new video of you playing it after a couple of tweaks if you were up to it. Its interesting to see different interpretations of such an usually brilliant piece. And even better to see the improvements you'd make.

  • amazazazazazzaaazzaazzazazazazaaing!!!

    =DDDD

the only part that i'm kinda picky about is the slight rests....=P

  • wow im jealous of ur big hands...

i think u could have played around a bit more with the rhythms of the piece instead of having so many pauses or slight rests.

  • Oh my goodness!XD you are amazing!^_^

  • your trills and use of what i like to call the "toodle- loo" fingers to acomplish all of the rolls is supurb

  • Great job, but the tempo is really all over the place.

  • 5:25 - 6:45 is the best part of this song. you pulled it off well. i'm pretty impressed by this whole video.

  • great video made enjoyed it. it would be a really big ask but any chance of an overhead view in the future? i can learn off of that XD

  • Hey ! Very nice! Vould you send me the notes?

  • wow you're harsh.

  • pshh, i hate how people are posting stupid unnecessary comments.

dude. this is like a freaking hard piece!

i'd like to see any of you try it!

    Amazing job, dude!

  • stop saying dude and ikemaster9 maybe you should practice more before you post a youtube video , but its really good !!!

  • Comment removed

  • good for you! that was amazing.... i have a lot of respect for this piece. and almost have it accomplished myself!! keep up the amazing work!!

  • how long did it take you to learn this piece?

  • Great work!

    Bravo!

    5*

  • I'd lurve to play this song. :) I'm searching for the sheet music now, hopefully I'll learn it soon :) excellent playing btw.

  • I have to admit that every time I watch this video I always feel more motivated to the learn the whole song - i'm sure the day will come. Just an amazing performance though!!

  • you are very good! congratulations!

this is one of my favorites songs and you played very good

  • ... although there's a high chance I'll never be able to play this, can you send me where to get the sheet music for this piece? :0

    luvly piano-playing, by the way.

  • Amazing. I love this song so much.

Only a clarinet can do the beginning justice, though...

  • Or George Gershwin himself.

  • It's favorited.

    You are amazingggggg! (:

  • AwesomE!!!

makes me wanna learn this song LOL

    it sounded amazing!

  • great job, i've always wanted to play this song. you are a very skilled pianist =] I've been playing for six years, so i think i can take it on ; ]

  • That was really beautiful. i'm 15, and i wish my school would play this in orchestra!!

  • I wish the same! Too bad my school's band members can't play it.

  • AWESOME PIANO PLAYING! You missed a few notes but overall it was very good with it's own interesting style! Loved it <3

  • i wanted to hear the part after the glissando near the end, but nice job anyway. is it ok if i post a vid response of me playin this (i close to getting this piece down)

  • *im close to getting it down

  • Yeah, of course.

  • Nice! I want to learn how to play that.

  • Phenomenal.

  • i REALLY wanna play this!!

i got the sheets [[all 29 pages]] haha

but after looking at it im too scared.

    haha

i feel like im playing the wrong keys, althought im told its the right ones.

    lol

  • excellent job! sounded nice

  • Is this a simplified version? Some of the chords have been changed to octaves and some other minor changes. If it is than that's kinda cool because I'm trying to teach this to middle school student and her hands are teeny. :]

  • Actually, I changed those few chords myself because I couldn't play them fast enough when they were the full chord, haha. But that was a while ago. I can probably do it now.

  • lol i totally get the sunny in philadelphia reference.....

    best episode ever ^_^

oh and great job on the piece ike, very inspiring

  • wow, that was really good! I really wish I could do that well! I'm just starting to learn that song and I have a feeling it's gonna take a long time! Thanks for putting this video on so that I can get a sense of what it should sound like!

  • that's a pretty good piano what brand?

  • It's a Steinway. I think it's around 64 years old.

  • hmm.. Some of the comments are kind of harsh or unnecessary. Keep doing what you love, that's really all that counts in the end, that you enjoyed it. Some of us, like myself, will recognize the effort an individual has put into something like this. This is very good work here, obviously many hours of sore fingers and practice.

  • Hey, thanks. This performance obviously wasn't the best, you're right, some of the comments have been a bit unnecessary. I tried my best at that point, and I'm a much better pianist right now and, when I do attempt this piece again (at the right time) it will be a lot better.

  • really awesome...if you slowed down some parts in the beginning you could make it more beautiful, your speed is kinda fast. but it's really sweet, good job!

  • Hah, yeah, I know.

Just gimme some time so I can be deemed worthy of relearning it by my new teacher and then I'll post a new video of all 14 1/2 minutes of the song. Hah, it might take a while...

  • that was great, I'm trying to learn it right now...it sure is hard!

    thanks for this

  • It's pretty good considering the song is so hard. It sounded a bit choppy, though.

  • I know.

  • And no offense to you at all by my last comment, btw. I have yet to see or hear anybody on youtube or in person play Rhapsody in Blue as good as the pros, nonetheless George Gershwin himself. Which is exactly why I have been practicing it for 3+ yrs and will not perform it until it is 100% perfect.

  • I have listen to a few renditions of this piece and I notice when I listen to it in this original arrangement played by George Gershwin himself in 1924 the musicians give there instruments a human type of quality in there sounds. If this is indeed the way George intended for it to sound then why doesent anyone else play it in the same manner?

  • People have an extremely bad habit of messing with classics and making them "new and improved", when in reality they just make them suck more. That's why people invented copyrights.

  • It was okay. Many mistakes, however. Rule #1 in piano soloing:if you make a mistake, DON'T make it obvious. Overall rating:2 stars
