enjoyed your video. i am having trouble getting the boiler temp up a range where its effect is felt: 65deg C/ 150F. this has been in the last 2 wks since the weather has turned from -5 C to '-15 & more. the wood/ trees were cut 6mths ago, then split & stacked 3 mths ago - so i'm not sure if they are dry enough either.
maybe you can help me, my wood burning stove work fine but this piece inside the stove that attach to the top with two bolts with some kind of frabric keeps falling. i dont know if its important or if it safe for me to keep starting fires. if you can help me it be most appreciated
@negima47 well it it the plate on the inside that covers the outlet?it it is replace the bolts the fabric could be fiberglass or asbestose!! be careful with that stuff if you need to handle the fabric wet it with water first.
Love your heat system. Did you consider a water system to heat the house & water with while building this? I've seen many but seem to like the direct heat vs. water system. I just dont want to build one then wish I'd done it differently later. Any suggestions now that you've done yours?
@tucsonpersonified The blue flame, and the recombustion chamber, are pretty good clues toward gasification.
He should consider a ceramic lining for the reburn chamber, it's going to degrade the steel sooner than later. But a refractory lining will prevent that.
holy crap at least once a day??? i need one. im using a hotblast filling it 3-4 times dealing with a bunch of creosote because i close the dampers down to make it last my workday
@pimpdady20 i will build another one for my garage when i get the garage built at my house so maybe i will do two of them and sell one or run a contest and give it away.
@onelonleyfarmer Thanks. I just bought a harmon PF100 forced air pellet furnace and was considering a supplement. Is your square footage long and wide or up? My house is 2533 square foot but its a wide rancher with cathedral ceilings and poorly insulated. I paid over $3k for propane heat one month last winter.
Wow, that has to be the biggest wood burner that I’ve ever seen. Our tiny shop brought stove keeps our 3 bed house too hot, I’ll bet there are times when you can’t stand within three feet of that beast without risking getting burnt. I wonder how much the floorboards above the stove have shrunk, and how is the fire box holding up after 3 years. Well done and brave effort on building your own power plant in the basement.
Surprised you didn't toss in the cardboard a bit at a time.... I hope you isolated/insulated the outside of that chimney, to protect your home structure. You should put out some details on the size of the unit, the thickness of the metal, etc. I hope your insurance company did not give you a hassle. I also hope you keep a fire extinguisher nearby... just in case. Take care, and stay warm, stay safe.
yeah buddy, I did that with a lo-boy 30 gallon water heater, I designed it just like that, I don't have fire brick cause it's already limited space in there, but I use it outside when I'm working on the cars, when it's fired up, I can stand about 3 or 4 feet away from it and feel the heat. I thought I was the only one thinking of stuff like this !!
@onelonleyfarmer............Well U know that's how corporations got started by great ideas and people thinking alike !! I don't know you but we have like minds
Most websites and manufacturers say do-it-youselfers cannot build a stove with a reburn chamber that works. What do you think? I have a barrel stove now and it's good but I've had pinhole burn-through in only one season, so I'd like to build something like yours. And that thing must be HEAVY.
@transdrole it is very heavy and my reburn chamber works very well.the thing with a barrel stove is there is no fire brick in them. and you need fire brick. this one will burn through to if i did not have fire brick in it
adjust your damper you will get less smoke and go buy a termostat for your flue pie if you keep the stov between 350- 450 you will burn off the creosoe and wont have a chimney fire. that blue flame is a good sighn you are burning the gasses left over from the wood. other then that keep a eye on the pipes make sure you clea them every year it will help the stove and keep from a creosoe fire. they suck you dont want that. great stove!!!
actually if your burning your wood properly you shouldnt see any smoke coming out of the chimney or pipe. once you have a good fire going you should have your damper half way not fully open. and open it when you have to put in more wood after closing the door adjust the damper to halfway again.
@noreaster07i get my wood off the farm i have 150+acres i also farm 2000 other acres that i get wood from if a tree falls into a field.we hade 40mph wind the other day and it did not budg so ithing i am good

@RUNuckinfutz yes i will be making a water jacket that sits on top of this unit i think it will work well.

You are experiencing gasification when you see a blue flame. The flame changes color because of the hydrogen that is being released.
