Vietnam Veterans will never coem back to this life and be the same again. :( its sad to see every human has a limit and the VIetnam Veterans lost their.
@eljefe90 All wars have and have had this. You will see in the future the same thing with those who fight in Iraq, Afghanistan and God only knows where else we will be next. The only thing different is the generations.
@lsuk0dyou There was alot more to it than that...actualy the United States didnt start the war North Vietnam did.North Vietnam invaded the US backed South,in reality the US was drug into the war...shouldnt of stayed in it that long though.
I had a teacher tell us about a vietnam vet that is a gun dealer, thats so messed up from the war he literally lives in the woods in a house and wont let anybody even come near his house
@emachines007 many of them got mentally ill for all that they have seen and forced to do, like cutting ears off from dead bodies of Vietnam people lying on the streets when they did something wrong in the opinion of their superior. This was for punishing them and the Vietnam people. The Vietnam people beleave that they can only come to heaven when their bodies are unscathed.. They had to take drugs for not falling asleep etc. etc.
how about you dip shits shut the fuck up about Vietnam is like Iraq or Iraq is like Vietnam and just listen to the warrior talk. Go give your bullshit history lesson somewhere else. The man is telling a story listen and shut the fuck up!
Comparing the two is totally stupid. I mean, seriously. All wars are characterized by death and destruction. No doubt about it. But you cannot compare Vietnam to Iraq or Afghanistan. The means the Army has today are way different, approaching the enemy is also different. Back in the jungle the situation was much worse. It's not just a matter of how many people died. It's especially about how the war was fought, with what means and the conditions soldiers had to face.
Yeah you're right, vietnam was SO much worse than the war on terrorism. My uncle is a Vietnam vet, and no one, has ever heard him speak of it. Not his wife nor his mother. He watched three of his brothers die over little things like a grenade propped in a coffee can with the handle pushed down set by the wife or kids of a Vietnamese soldier. Personally I don't think Iraq holds a candle to Vietnam.
Adra...Yes, Iraq is not Vietnam. BUT, in both cases, the reason for entering the war was a lie, the stated objective was a lie, we were killing people who were no threat to us and the end result was negative. If, in Vietnam, the true objective was as stated, that is, to stop the spread of communism, why, after the communists gained control over the entire nation, would McCain go back over there and strike business deals WITH THOSE VERY SAME COMMUNISTS? Why send our jobs and money to China?
they are not the same. there is no draft now. its a new time with a new generation and we are there for completely different reasons. they can not be compared. except on the fact the good boys over there, fighting and dying for their beloved home, dont really want to be over there, most dont truly understand why theyre over there, and they just want to fucking come home.
Many people are saying the vietnam war is like the war in iraq for the fact of so much blood shed for the sake of democracy against the face of communism. Do you agree?
I heard some veterans speak today and they kept comparing it to Iraq. Saying how its an undefined enemy using guerilla tactics and how it went from a strongly supported war to the people and is slowly declining.
@doctorbrinker Nah its not really the same in military terms. NVA- Usualy trained, (vaired from troop to troop) was fairly well equiped (Russians gave them guns, ammo, ect.) and had plenty of troops and most where fighting to (what the belived anyway) in fighting off an invader. Taliban/Al-quidea- Most poorly trained, under equiped and usualy had to bully the populace in to helping them. Plus the US kicked the terrorists asses and the NVA actualy managed to stave it out.
@DillontehHAXer You're mostly right, However... the taliban, some anyway, are quite familiar with tactics and warfare, they spent a few years against the Soviets. But yeah, they were not nearly as tough as the NVA. The NVA would bully a village into supporting them as well, and to not lend a hand to our boys, from time to time.
@DillontehHAXer You forgot about the Viet Cong , they fought guerilla warfare against the american by infitrating south-vietnam , the VC had enough logistic to do so because of the Ho chi minh trail. While NVA fought a conventional warfare up the north.
Recruiters and drummers-out get help from TV and film, which always show people getting killed: terrible, but thrilling. Instead of showing the captivating action of war, how about its stagnant reality: dead people, dead men, dead kids, dead animals, scattered, exposed. Faces. Still-open eyes. Some of them must seem to stare at you. Static, stupid anguishing misery of looking at death every day...I can't imagine it. My heart goes out to those who have seen that. But not their leaders. Fck war.
Or imagine pulling yourself psychologically through every day of your life after you've killed another human being... who might have been a nice guy (or maybe a jerk), who might have been married (or maybe engaged, or lonely, or distantly admiring someone who was preoccupied loving someone else). Who might have not wanted to join the fight (or signed up with naive zeal). Who maybe studied math, or wanted to be a writer, or a farmer. Who loved and was loved. Imagine having killed A HUMAN BEING.
Looks like you've been reading "The Things They Carried of Late" of late. An excellent book that shows war in its true nakedness written by Vietnam Vet Tim O'Brien. Also anyone who wants to learn what war is like should read his other books "Going after Caciatto" and "If i die in a combat zone".
These veterans stories need to be heard. Thanks for this. I interviewed several veterans and all of them talked about smell, the heat, the humtity and the smell
lets give this vet some credit for talking about it! most vets have trouble talking about Vietnam. 58000 + KIA ... WE WILL NOT FORGET POW / MIA. Bring em home or lets go back!
