  • i adore this video....

  • @lowkeygoddess Thank you. :)

  • hi everyone in geography 2001

  • yea interesting i like the last one image this grand mother with attitude fingers like gangsta

it is so easy to 'brouiller les pistes ' of your origin when you take other ' social codes '

everyone should try it , so much laugh , when we do it .

some people think with their habits:

and think we are form different countries .

i like to play with narrow minded people

that really cant get out their small minds ..

  • I'm having difficulty listening to this because my computer is really terrible at streaming. Have you created an aricle or blog about these ideas?

  • aggliki flologia athinwn!!! <3

  • Very thought provoking, I am planning to present to a cultural diversity class to promote discussion.

  • I've enjoyed the questions you pose. However, I would welcome your observations on the issue of culture with respect to either it's perceived western dominance under global capitalism; or do you perceive the organic aspect of culture to be resilient, combative, or adaptive to global capitalism? With respect to steering culture, what are your criteria for quality within this suggestion? Thanks for your video.

  • Where did the footage from 4:46 come from?

  • @Squigamunk1

That's from a petty well down animated film called "The Last Unicorn." Sorry I didn't reply to you earlier.

  • @RusticChivalry1985 Thanks!

  • pacifism is much cooler than violence.. Sex and God are way cooler than guns, and murder..

Music? eh, not a big problem, but music? a hugeproblem.. culture

  • The problem I see is that popular media forms a culture that is not representative of one's actual culture. Media would lose it's ability to entertain if it showed only the familiar aspects of a culture, no law breaking, no societal norm breaking. It would be boring. So instead it is and idealized fantasy but if one does not have a strong enough family and community bond the false media culture can smother common culture.

  • i do want to know what he said because what he's said will be what i am going to take quizzes on August 1th, 2011 anyone who are good at English can help me? pleaseeeeeeeee

  • It seems you didn't answer to any of the key questions.

  • where is the footage at 7:02 from?

  • @IrisWasHere

That's from a crazy little movie called Fantastic Planet.

  • Hey guy,

I love your video- I actually found it when I was looking for something to give my class a good definition of what culture is. To be honest, i think your video is probably better titled something like "what are the arts." I only say this because it seems like that is what you focus on--the culture that informs different types of art and propaganda, and how these things are consumed.

  • @margotsnuclearso

continuing: Since culture does not onyl inform visual arts, music, and literature, but also law, government, and economic policy, I think you might be better off acknowledging that you are looking at a special corner of culture.

  • @margotsnuclearso

and...still continuing: For example, when you look at the state of our financial markes today and our trade deficit, you could easily talk about how the United States is a society that rewards risk. This is a cultural value that may not be as obvious as, say, body image in our movies and video games. but thats simply because its not a realm where that particular value tends to play out, for whatever reason.

  • @margotsnuclearso

and...finally: Ok, now I am starting to sound like I disagree with your video-which I don't. I think its grand! I'm just suggesting that culture can be more broadly defined as the collective subconcious rules to any game--which means that not only every country, but every profession, religious organization, and even recreational societies produce their own distinct and competing culture. THAT part I thought you did a great job explaining.

  • Culture is both trap and prison.

It is in fact Collective Non-Rational Imitation.

Its purpose is to serve those who create and manipulate it, by capturing the minds of those who consume it, and thus influence their actions.

To consume "culture" one abandons the opportunity to control ones own thoughts and actions.

    Culture is a "hype-notic" poison.

    Culture is not your friend.

  • Very interesting, you want speak culture of wrong? I'm Korean. I weak English. Asia, Africa, America, etc Have diffrent culture. I think. Culture have many wrong.

  • thank you this is a think piece and a good spring board for some healthy discussion. thank you for sharing.

  • culture is what you eat, talk, sing and dance. Culture is wha we see, I think that we are having something called global culture .. that's all coz of globalization effects. In my country ( Qatar ) and in the arab world in general there is a loss of identity, nationalism and culture and thanks to the western media.

  • @Hissa86 I worked in Qatar for a year. Your country is changing so quickly, I think it is difficult to keep your traditions. I liked talking to some of the older men about when Doha was a very small city. Western media certainly is changing a lot of the world, but it is also changing itself and becoming more open and tolerant.

  • @Hissa86

I agree with you that culture is global. I think you're right on point there. However, eating, singing, dancing, and so on are superficialities that we call culture because in our current world we only know such differences. In reality, there is one global culture as you said, and it is Western in nature. Countries like China, or India that people think have ancient cultures have cultures that are no older than the culture in the United States.

  • @Hissa86 Doha is one of my favorite places. I lived there for some time while I attended Park House Avenue English School. Perhaps you are suffering from a disillusionment with your presupposed ideals. That is, the age of spirituality is jeopardized by the increasingly capitalist, corrupt regimes adopted by your governments. You want to witness life, the therefore are afraid to change it by risking yours.

  • great video!!! thanks for posting it

    greetings from brazil

  • Culture is the cult, the new, ideas and thoughts.. Culture exists in Civilization. Civilization is a collectiva of many people of many different origins of many thoughts and ideas under big cities. Civilization believes to the non stop development under the tool culture which creates the "new moda".

  • @emmanouil1980 we live the first civilization believe it or not.. For example It is wrong to say Ancient Greek Civilization. First because the word entered Greek language in 18th century AD. Second they had no "culture" but ῾παιδεία῾ (the simple translation is "education") and third because they never said lets work all together or lets thought all together but know yourself.

  • also works as a good definition of art.

  • Fascinating. I found this sentence particularly intriguing. Thanks!

"The more diverse a culture is, the more possible identities a person can choose from."

  • very nice video good points subscribed

  • Enlightened.

  • Amazing Vid!!...and very profound info.

    Keep it up!!

  • Interesting video

We watched it in my Anthropology class :)

  • Nice work! Thanks so much for posting this. I'm going to reference it (if you don't mind?) in an essay I'm writing on culture and society as the basis for different behaviors and ideologies throughout the world.

    Awesome! Thanks again. xx

  • I'm flaterred. What will you focus your essay on?

  • I think i'm going to try and explain how culture can constrain individuals on a subconscious level, using examples i'm going to show that culture is the basis for many differences in behavior and ideas throughout the world and suggest that the more culturally one-sided or narrow a person is the harder it is for them to grasp the validity of other cultures. These people are, i believe, the people you speak about, groups that enjoy watching those repeated images.i need more concise direction though

  • that comment may not make any sense... for herbal reasons. hehehe. Let me know if you have any suggestions please. x

  • "Culture gives your identity what you need at that particular time". Nice man :)

  • Thanks man. And thanks for your support. Do you think I should go on a bollywood run, or keep going with other projects? I dunno. I've got a bit of a portfolio now, so I can relax. Thank god I have internet finally.
