dude that little air filter is for the jet air fuel mixture.. hook that one up to the pipe at the intake, and the other one you remove or put a oil catch can... what ECU are you using??
@xStevoxunknown that was just a vacuum line that was connected to the air filter system that came with the turbo kit. I didnt really like it so I put on a cold air style filter and needed something to protect that line so no debris would get in it.
A couple of things if you are going to turbo a Renesis using the Greedy Kit.
Install the Auto injectors as Primaries they are bigger and will stop the leaning out in the top end. Get an electric oil pump for the Turbo return, there is not enough gravity feed from the turbo to the sump and the oil is very hot so run it through a cooler.
@Bloodz999 its one of Manda's rotary engines based on the original Wankel rotary engine design by Felix Wankel also know as a Wankel rotary engine. if you just say rotary some people will think you are talking about a rotary plane engine with the pistons positioned in a circle around the drive shaft but since this is a rx-8 video people should assume its a Wankel rotary not a plane engine
@Bloodz999 Wankel = Rotary. Wankel designed the Rotary engine "blueprint." The other name you were thinking of is Renesis, which is the name for the new rotary block they use in the RX8, but considering it says 13b at the top, either he titled it wrong, or did a 13b swap.
@TheGrammarFuhrer The RX-8 has the 13B Renesis.... its the next generation of the 13B.... you are thinking of the 13B-REW from the 3rd gen rx7.... if im reading your comment right.
@lakdann thats part of the vacuum line it was hooked up to the air filter that came with the turbo kit but I didnt like it. Once I disconnected it the hose was left open so I had to find a way to filter the air going into it, I didnt want debris going in.
some what. but the 5w is only a big deal if u live in hot weather. so it all depends on where u live. 10w30 is the best all around and the 5w is good for hot weather
visionit2007, Mazda use the rotary engine bcs it's smaller and lighter and could be mounted lower..all for the reason of getting the perfect balanced handling sports car.
ok got it. so i guess im gona go with supercharger kit. and the oil hasn't given you prob of any sort ? because i keep hering to go with synthetic oil 5w20
dont use 5 weight oil that stuff is like water, the renesis engine already goes through oil fast enough, with that super thin oil you'll be constantly topping off, go with a heavy weight oil like 20w50 unless you live in a cold climate then I would only go with 10w30 which is what I used sometimes in the winter time
@DJSkyhawk I have always used 5w 20 and never went through much oil. I would use about a half quart every 1000 miles. You don't really want anything so thick that you barely use any, you want the oil getting used up to some extent since it is what creates a seal between the apex seals and the rotor housing. I recently switched to 5w 30 because I found out the US is the only country using 5w 20. I don't know if I would ever use anything really thick though.
20/50 is used on rotary engines which are in hot climates, like the soutern US states wheres it stays over 90* on a typical spring/summer day.
The rotary engine is a naturally hot running engine, so the actual viscosity of the oil is going to thin itself out when it is hot, you also have to consider fuel dilution on rotary engines, partly because they run rich.
Introducing fuel into the oil will significantly reduce the oils viscosity, so thicker is better for a rotary.
@rotor13 Yea I have seen on the forums where a lot of people use the thicker oil's & haven't had any problems. I have been reluctant to use them because I was worried that if my motor blew the factory wouldn't warranty it w an unrecommended oil in it. I guess I could just change the oil in the dead motor to fool them lol. Well I now live in WV so I will probably be better off with the thinner oils since it can get pretty cold here. I drove in 15 degree weather without problems earlier this year.
Ya, at least run 10/40 at a minimum if you're out in WV now. The Renesis motors run a bit hotter than the older rotaries because Mazda used a thermostat that opens at a hotter temp to help with emissions.
Since WV is a colder climate, 10/40 is a good balance. I still believe 5/30 to be way too thin
@DJSkyhawk BTW, the super chargers don't make more power. They actually make about the same hp, but they always make less torque than the turbo's do. The SC's may make the same peak HP but across the entire RPM band the turbo is making more power earlier. I do however believe that the super chargers are more reliable because you don't have to worry about spikes in boost and because they don't make as much power so they aren't as rough on the motor.
@DJSkyhawk Surely you wouldnt use another oil type, the 5w20 is recommended in the manual...... Id love to use thicker oil though but shit myself over something happening to the engine!
...first off you shouldn't get synthetic oil NEAR a rotary engine unless you're wanting to blow and replace the motor. they BURN oil as part of their design and conventional oil is what you need to use. i wouldn't use 5w20 unless you live on a glacier. 10w30 is never gonna give you problems on a rotary
i used nothing but royal purple 20w50 the whole time I had the car. I had alot of problems cause i decided to turbo it, what ever you do dont do it!! if you wanna mod your engine go with a supercharger kit instead you get a lot more power that way anyways.... rotarys are useally very reliable if you treat em right and maintain them. Best of luck to you.
Christ! I have a 2 litre turbocharged 9-3SS running 271BHP and 420Nm... it's much heavier and gets nearly double that fuel consumption! Sure, it's not as quick and the handling is awful in comparison, but that's really poor MPG.
... in fuel efficiency may be, but it certainly doesn't generate as much power, torque or use as little oil as a regular straight six. I can't see why Mazda want to stick to an engine which can't compete with the yardstick...
no...it's not. a rotary is a rotary. you can not in any way compare it to pistons. i own a 13b-msp. i hate when ppl say stuff like this. yes it makes more power liter per liter compared to pistons, but thats the only comparison you can make between the two
