Secession was inexcusable. The breakup of the Union, probably one of the most democratic governments in existence at that point would be a great shame on civilization and free government and would turned a united country into small states fighting amongst each other like Europe
@Oesterreich1156 I appreciate your civil tone, however, my remarks were directed more to admittedly offend those that have posted comments in support of the Confederacy. I'm not sure how familiar you are with the American Civil War, but some of the idiots who still support the Confederacy and the South in that conflict are nothing but redneck racists who want to go back to the days of slavery.
@Oesterreich1156 There was slavery in New York and in other Union states too, but the difference is that you will not find nearly as many people who live in NY or in other Union states that want the Confederacy to rise once again nor will you find nearly as many people who want to go back to the days of slavery like you will find many in the South.

@seriousfuno
yeah, what i said should count for them too.
but don't forget that some union countries had slavery too.
three examples: missouri, kentucky, delaware.
it's incredible how both sides hated the other one.
in "dixie to arms" they sing: "stamp upon the cursed alliance".
it's obvious that they mean the USA with that.
nearly all states which bordered the CSA.
