I bought this CD along with several others as a birthday present to myself. My mom is very religious and found them and threw them away. She said " Youll thank me later, I know you dont want to go to hell."
I said" If they dont have this music in heaven Id rather go to hell."
This makes me want to go and get drunk and run about with my friends, overthrow the government with them, then steal a rich dude's convertible and drive triumphantly into the sunset, along a massive highway, with my girlfriend. But she hates this song, so I'd probably have to listen to Panic at the Disco or some shit.
i can barely hear the singer but i think he is correctly exemplifying the concept of a 'teenager riot'. It's like he is singing through from his bed in his room to his parents behinds his closed bedroom door.
If I had to say Who Was Better? And this forced debate I see everywhere here. Well I guess I have to agree that SOnic Youth are better than Nirvana. If one had to disappear from the memory of the world, and there was no other solution, then Nirvana should be sent to the Memory Hole. Sonic Youth have something wya closer to God, This is why Kurt killed himself, cause he knew he was not cutting the pie.
@KombiPode I'm not a grunge or alternative, but I like some Sonic Youth, they're extremely inventive. Thurston Moore is amazing, and that is one of the reasons I like Sonic Youth. If I don't like Sonic Youth I do like Thurston Moore. But anyway, Nirvana lacked any of that creativity. Kurt wanted to be famous, when he became famous then he whined about how he couldn't take being famous and suddenly he ended up shooting himself. Nirvana is just one of the 90's Seattle bands to me.
@LySeRgIa2 Just 'ONE OF THEOSE SEATTLE BANDS'? Have you listened to any Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains or Soundgarden? All three of which are massively distinct from each other and from Nirvana. Don't be fooled by this idea of 'grunge'. It doesn't exist, the big 4 were completely different styles to each other, all very creative in their own way. No one is better than anyone else; Sonic Youth couldn't do what Nirvana did, and vice versa. They're both great.
@cdmacdonald2112 How couldn't you know about the big grunge bands, that's what 90's was, grunge. It's identical to the emo garbage that's going on right now. What a stupid question "have you ever listened to Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains or Soundgarden?" If you were old enough to hear at that time, how couldn't you have heard it.
lol, I don't care about Seattle bands or the big grunge bands or grunge in general to really argue this or further really converse over it.
@LySeRgIa2 Yes true. You say I pose a stupid question, yet you compare 'grunge', which as i've said doesn't exist, with 'emo garbage'. It's obvious you don't actually appreciate what went into music at that time. Shame.
@TheodoreChell NY flowers was just a short detour. Rather Ripped, Sonic Nurse, and The Eternal are all great albums. Sonic Youth is probably one of the only bands to have maintained their creativity and integrity for as long as they have. If one little tryst can ruin so much great music for you, you need to re-examine your artistic priorities.
What happened with sonic youth?? Since NY flowers, I kinda got lost. Seeing Kim blowing a horn might seem a kinky fantasy, actually seeing her blowin a trompet on a gig, is a more like a turn-off.
Even when listen their older albums, that particular image is printed on eardrums and their music sounds spoiled.
@roxtar10870 today's music certainly does NOT blow. There's tons of great bands out there, it's just that with social networking and technology advancing, it's becoming more and more difficult for our generation to find music that isn't in our Top 40s. We are basically told what is good and what isn't based on what's on the radio. And of course, finding new music is time-consuming, and since no one ever has any time to relax, we basically listen to the radio. and that makes me sad
@117badassbuddy I'm not sure I follow the comment. You say social networks/technology makes people listen to top 40 radio?
I'd argue that technology and social networks have made music outside the scope of mainstream radio much more accessible for everyone. The physical restrictions are gone, there's nothing keeping a kid in Tucson from hearing an indie record from Brooklyn. Streaming radio sites like Pandora/Slacker are introducing people to new stuff all the time. Internet is good for music.
@nubetre One could also argue the accessibility of music can lead to people taking it for granted and in all enjoying it less. I have not experienced yet but it definitely possible to foresee in the future.
One of the sexiest intros I have ever heard!
