Seems Elvis suggested the idea for this movie to the powers that be! Of all of his light musicals, this one was the most "different" - supporting star Sue Ann Langdon said she was more proud of this film than "Roustabout".

Elvis never considered himself a serious actor and "Frankie & Johnny" was one of his worst films. The actos in this movie just seem to stumble through it. Donna Douglas was funny on The Beverly Hillbillies, but frankly, she wasn't much of an actress, just easy on the eyes. Elvis was a singer, not an actor, and he was the first to admit that.
